Excellent episode 👏 I’m curious to hear your take on our evolutionary ability to discern between sweet and bitter with very high accuracy; babies can tell without a doubt immediately after being born. Anthropology posits this is because our ability to detect sweetness gave us a leg up because sweetness typically meant sugar which meant high calories, i.e., energy, survival. This ability has been with us as long as we’ve been drinking water and eating meat. Sure, it may not have been a stable food source, but if you think about it, no cave person would’ve been like “better not eat those berries, Sam, it’ll throw you out of ketosis” 😅 You speak of the Inuits and how they only ate meat, but what about Akutaq: an Eskimo dessert made from rendered fat and berries. Why wouldn’t they do this? Don’t get me wrong. I’m 10 days carnivore and I feel fucking amazing! Furthermore, when I decided to go carnivore, you’re literally the first person I watched on the subject, so you’re forever GOATed in my book. If you never see this, I understand. But I owe it to myself to ask these questions because the internet is littered with garbage and smear campaigns for everything under the sun. I don’t know where to find reliable literature, and it’s hard to trust random blog posts for reasons mentioned prior. Regardless, I can’t say it enough, thank you. I’m 36. I’ve never felt this good in my entire life 😭

So true regarding orthodontics. My husband and I grew up in the 80’s and have receding chins, tiny jaws, crooked teeth. My kids were raised keto/carnivores. All 3 have perfect straight teeth. They also have beautiful physiques. Their doctors and dentists are amazed. It is not genetics. It’s all about diet. ( they also have straight A’s). Boys Age 19&16, girl age 12.

It still is. Why do you think the garbage slop is so heavily advertised, readily available and the "elites" seek to curtail our meat supply due to cow farts? Afaik, even old testaments recommends fatty diet (with no carbs) for the priest class to mirror what the would "eat."

There are written accounts of the food served at Henry V111' s banquets and it was the most eye watering array of animal food you could imagine with a little bread thrown in. The peasants ate pottage a soup of barley, oats, beans and scraps of meat. As a teacher I used to comment that the peasants had a better diet because I believed the anti meat paradigm. Now however, I've been made aware of reality and understand why the rich have always and continue to eat meat whilst the poor make do with subsistence rations.

Love learning what your showing us. I’m 41 now and I had my son at 22. I never focused on animal protein or animal fats back then but I did eat what I thought was healthy. Never fast food, never fried foods, no sodas & barely drank. I was brought up with tons of antibiotics. Anyways my son was born with a bit of Asperger’s autism. It affected our life a lot and of course his. I was able to help him the most with a protein approach diet. If he had protein first he was mental so much better. He’s 18 now and it’s still the case for him. He is 80% better as with diet and supplements plus something we got from New Zealand he’s able to live a normal life now. I’m so thankful to learn from you and others about this because it’s so important. I see other kids that struggle with this and with ADHD or mental issues and I know it’s because they are not getting protein. I also watch my vegan grown friends get “Hangry” They don’t realize they are starving themselves plus they go threw lots of hormonal issues

People follow the narrative of whatever they perceive the majority to be. Most people feel safe there and don't even question it. They also will attack anyone who has the gall to deviate from the majority, because of course that person must be wrong and is just trying to deceive people with their lies.

@@jewelsbarbie so what did these tribes and societies of people who ate only meat do about salt intake if they didn't have it? They just go oh well guess I'll feel like shit. One issue I have noticed is without some form of carbs at all how do you hold onto water and electrolytes? If there is a video of Chaffee or someone else discussing what they do or the logic and science behind carnivore and having no need for salt intake or what not please link it I have been trying to figure every little bit of the things being left out of all these strictly carnivore based people. Having consistent access to fresh water for these tribes or big communities of people who were carnivores is unlikely just like having access to what a salt mine or salt rocks to maintain what you need because you aren't eating something like fruit also something I noticed is people on keto or carnivore are slamming electrolyte supplements secretly I mean did the tribes of people back in the day have these magical supplements? This isn't the only thing either there are many different small things that aren't being mentioned I believe

Re: Genetic potential--My parents were 5'0" and 5'7". I'm 5'3" Boohoo. Oh well. Funny thing though, I was in India where the vast majority eat mostly rice, and I was one of the biggest people on the street in New Delhi. The only people taller than me were the obviously rich businessmen in 3 piece suits. But they were fat and headed towards diabetes and cardiovascular disease due to eating lots of sugar, foods (mostly grain based) fried in veg oil...

@@anthonychaffeemd Maybe. We don't know whether it's causative or associative. There could be other factors causing a location develop a carnivore culture and tall people rather than the meat eating driving it. Yes? I don't know of any research or documentation of carnivore diet raised children routinely growing to 6ft plus. I know you like to reference Herodotus. People at that time had very different minds, different relationship to themselves, to the world and to "truth" than we do now. Parallel example is Charaka Samhita, one of the seminal texts of Ayurvedic medicine. The author was a contemporary of Herodotus. In that book, he describes a "soma fast" where you consume only the juice of the soma plant (which no longer exists). Over a number of months your completely breaks down, your hair, nails, and teeth all fall out and your skin sloughs off, You need to have a crew take care of you including bathing you in milk. You were to get your nutrients by absorption from that milk. After many months, your body would completely regenerate only, no matter how you went in, you'd end up with the body and health of an ideal 19 year old and radiating charisma such that people would prostrate at your feet. And you would be completely immune to all diseases and degenerative conditions for a thousand years. If you believe that, I have a bridge... Anyway, 400 b.c.e. era, what we now call mythology, was considered to be hard fact. Quick search comes up with actual diet of Ethiopians around that time period. "In the fourth millennium B.C., agriculture began to emerge in the fertile highlands of what is now western Eritrea and the Sudan. It then spread to the lowlands and eventually the plateau. These proto-Ethiopians grew sorghum, and by the end of the millennium, they had begun to herd cattle. By the first or second millennium B.C., they ate sorghum, wheat, barley and possibly teff, along with many other grains, vegetables and pulses (lentils, peas, fava beans, chick peas and more)." sites.pitt.edu/~kloman/foodhistory.html#:~:text

Coming from Keto and I ate lots of salad and it never did something beneficial to me, the opposite was the case like I had liquid stools, constipation, inflammation in the gut, lower back and neck pain, brain fog, depression, arthritis in my fingers shit skin and the list goes on and on. I am fucking 4 days into carnivore with grass fed beef, wild salmon, and organic eggs, some cheese and bacon and I feel energized like never before. Additionally my tummy is flat, no bloating anymore, arthritis gone, inflammation in my back and neck gone and even my wrinkles near my eyes are gone. It's insane and its hard to believe that changes can be so quickly! I cannot stress it enough to give it a try guys, even if you only do it a week you will see such huge benefits which will make you wonder how you were able to eat such a wrong diet your whole life before! At 17 mins of this video you talk of Ghengis Khan and Mongols eating only horse meat. Were the Mongols really that tall on average (6 feet 4 etc)? I've always been intrigued about the Mongol empire. Do you have any links you can share regarding Mongol’s diet of horse meat and their average size? I always thought Mongols treated their horses as sacred and mainly ate sheep and cattle. I always thought they were shortish warriors too. In any event I support your dietary advice and principles. Thanks!

Here’s some info i came across: “The Chinese noted with surprise and disgust the ability of the Mongol warriors to survive on little food and water for long periods; according to one, the entire army could camp without a single puff of smoke since they needed no fires to cook. Compared to the Jurched soldiers, the Mongols were much healthier and stronger. The Mongols consumed a _steady diet_ of meat, milk, yogurt, and other dairy products, and they fought men who lived on gruel made from various grains. The grain diet of the peasant warriors stunted their bones, rotted their teeth, and left them weak and prone to disease. In contrast, the poorest Mongol soldier ate mostly protein, thereby giving him strong teeth and bones.” Jack Weatherford, Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World (Italics mine)

There are a few questions you can ask when looking at this kind of study: how did they collect the data on what people were eating? (Food frequency questionnaire, how many time points, etc…) were the groups of people evaluated highly similar to each other (age, smoking status, exercise, gender, etc…)? What exactly was counted as “meat”? Did the researchers imply that correlation is causation? Was there any conflict of interest with the researchers? What did the raw data show (instead of the “adjusted” data)? By the time your dinner answering the first question, you’ll know it’s all nonsense, but finish answering the rest, and it’ll drive it home.

@@johnhogue9402 I agree…to me the irony is that here in the west epidemiology is used to demonize meat, but in cultures where meat eating isn’t vilified it’s used to show the opposite! An that’s probably why it shouldn’t be in nutrition science……

Interesting about the teeth. As a kid I only wanted to eat meat. I didn’t eat many veggies other than liking onions and garlic really. I have all my teeth, including my wisdom teeth which are fully in and not crowded. I’ve also never had a cavity. Every time I see a dentist or hygienist they are shocked. I can hear them muttering… 6, 8, 10 and when they realize my teeth are all there they almost seem dumbfounded. I know there is a genetic factor to it based on my family history on on side but I have no doubt that my diet as a kid played a huge part. I also hated sugar. Couldn’t stand birthday cake or cupcakes. It took years of poor eating habits to be able to eat the junk I have. I don’t anymore thankfully!
