Same here. A lot of times at work I put 1 AirPod in and listen to music/pod cast. But I get sick of songs and changing them etc etc. so about 10 years ago I started listening to unsolved mysteries and a few other similar shows from the late 80/90s. I just listen to it at work. I don’t actually watch it. It helps the day so much and it’s actually pretty entertaining.

And led to them being separated by sticking them in the system, away from the last constant in their young lives. It’s their parents who I feel really sorry for, coming home expecting to help celebrate two birthdays only to find all the kids gone. That’s devastating and if they learned a neighbour went to social services, I don’t envy that neighbour one bit.

I remember ages ago hearing a family story about a great uncle that had these guys come to his house to take the kids away during this same depression era. The family was heavily armed and scared the social workers away forever.

Growing up, I'd overhear Dad talking about stories like this a lot because a CPS agent a few towns over was on some sort of power trip. I spent my childhood *terrified* that something like this would happen to me and my siblings. So, I researched how to survive as a fugitive and came up with escape plans if men in black ever showed up at our house.

Totally true, what a heartbreaking case. The poor girl just wanted to buy a new book and bam, an opportunistic monster took her life away. It's just incredibly sad.

I think that Kathy should have either had someone go to the store with her or wait until the next day to go to the store.

I think we were all guilty of this at some point, going at the convenience store on our own without thinking of the potential danger watching us. Opportunistic robbers or killers can struck anyone at any time, and we rarely think that these attacks can happen to us. Poor Kathy. 😔

My mom always kept an iron grip on us going places alone, my sister would get so angry at 13 because our mom just wouldn't let her walk around the mall with just her friends and not our mom. I would only get mad sometimes because my mom would rarely let me over to anyone of my friends houses for a sleepover (only my cousins house most of the time, but my friends were always welcome at my house!). She always explained to us why, and I understood and didn't make a fuss about it. My sister only realizes now after having her own child and apologizes to our mom when the subject comes up.

Perhaps the father admitted he couldn't care for the kids and did a voluntary surrender? He sure didn't try to fight or appear at the court hearings. People are such idiots, especially of the true crime variety. CPS and social workers does not "tear families apart". They have no authority. It's called "family courts". 99% of all child abused, molested and trafficked are by their family members and or friends of the family. In fact family courts fight so hard to keep families together, they almost always keep children in abusive situations far too long before removing them. In order to get your children removed from your care, you have to be doing a horrible job or simply are unfit to care for your children. Hate to break it to ya, but children are not your personal property and majority of people are not great parents. Courts have left children in abusive and unfit homes in order to keep families together, and yet these people are so horrible they still get their kids taken away. You act as if social workers just knock doors and take what kids they want.
