MSFS Flight Plans

Жыл бұрын

By popular demand- I've finally figured out a way to get you guys our exact flight plans in a format that can be downloaded directly to Little NavMap and imported to MSFS. This video will show you how to do it.
P.S. In case anyone doesn't know how to import the plan once in MSFS: Go to your world map, click "More" at the bottom, then click "Load" (also at the bottom), then select the .pln file from whichever folder you saved to from LNM.
If you want a more in depth tutorial for Little NavMap, check out the ‪@jonbeckett‬ channel. The guy is an MSFS savant who has taught me nearly everything I know about the sim. He's got great tutorials for the LNM application and just about everything else you can imagine.

Great video thanks. Another issue I've seen post import is that FS2020 IGNORES the departure / arrival runways set in your LNM flight plan. You can clearly see you've defined both runways in your LNM flight plan, you export to MSFS, then on the world map screen (nothing selected) you import, but then it's using completely different runways for both departure and arrivals. Often if you change the runways manually after importing, it breaks your flight plan you had loaded (as alluded to by others...possibly Jon Beckett's videos). Only way to get it working well is to either set ONLY the departure airport (as per your recommendation), or select a parking spot if you're happy to start cold and dark. But another wonderful video on this awesome little program. Learning heaps watching you thanks :)

Yeah, I've experienced all that. Sometimes the parking spots won't even line up right and it starts me on a runway (started ... on a runway). So I usually have to go back and check to make sure I'm in a spot once I'm in the sim. Fortunately, so far, changing a parking spot doesn't seem to break the sim like changing a runway.

@@MSFSFlightPlans So basically if I want to start ready to go on a runway (in the Sim), should I NOT select a starting point in LNM (only a departure airport), then in the export options, ONLY click save (ie. don't select a starting point in that LNM export dialogue box 4:08), then when I load up the SIM, the G1000 shouldn't be confused with multiple paths from the airport departure area? I'm trying to nail down a repeatable procedure for having IFR flight plans that I've prepared in LNM, then export to MSFS, where both the Sim and the G1000 closely match what I planned in LNM. So far...the results are all over the place ;)

Ah, okay, I see what you're saying ... So what I would do is go ahead and pick a parking spot as your "departure" location at the airport, that should at least get you to where you can export it to MSFS as a .pln file without that dialogue box (which may be messing with the transfer). For the actual flight path, I usually pull it from the runway icon (that circle with the line in it) which will be the default starting point if you don't pick a starting runway ... and I drag it over to the midpoint of my departure runway so the NAV will pick up on the leg. The first leg will just be the one going from the icon to the runway, the second leg will be your intial departure runway heading. By the time you get in the air, it should be tracking that second one just fine. Once you get into the sim, that's when you'll switch from the parking spot to your departure runway. I just did it about 10 times on the flight I'm editing right now, it shouldn't mess with the rest of your plan if you do that. AND it will get you on the right runway with the plane already started. Let me know if it works.

@@MSFSFlightPlans Good suggestions there thanks. I followed your instructions and selecting a parking spot in LNM made the export dialogue box NOT appear (so I thought I was having a win). Loaded the .pln into FS2020 (which indeed had the parking spot to start on) - I simply changed that to the active runway. But when I'm ready in the plane, and look at my G1000 flight plan, there's two "V" shaped lines leaving from the airport; one going direct from the airport to the IAF, and the other following the USR waypoints to the IAF. I then take off and it does follow the USR waypoints in AP, but when it gets to the IAF it keeps flying over it and ignores the approach path turn from the IAF. The flight plan on the G1000 just has a tiny pink line before the first leg of the RNAV approach. I've tried this multiple times and the only way I can get a clean plan to appear on the G1000 is to manually program the RNAV approach into the G1000 (by clicking "select approach") - then that makes the 'V' dual paths disappear and it forms a single clean path to the IAF from the Airport. I'll keep trying to get some consistency. (PS - this is a short flight from Brisbane (AU) to the Sunshine Coast: YBBN - YBSU (RNAV Y 321 approach) - departing from YBBN rwy 01L.

Hmmm, that does sound odd. I usually draw my plans to the transition waypoint if I'm shooting a proper procedure for approach and then rely on the avionics to alter the plan when I get close enough to activate the plan ... in other words, I won't try to map the procedure into LNM. What plane are you flying? I'll see if I can replicate the flight so I can follow what my system is doing with it.

Have you by any chance already made a flight plan for the UK low flying Mach Loop or Machynlleth Loop?

We did one near the area on a Welsh castles tour, but not through the loop itself.

Hi Nick, quick question - what are you using for satellite map view. All I see is an option for Mapbox but they want a credit card to create an account and charge fees apparently after a certain amount of usage. Thanks!
@MSFSFlightPlans
@MSFSFlightPlans 5 ай бұрын
It is Mapbox, and it's been a while since I've installed it, so I don't recall if they asked for a card or not up front ... but I don't think they did. And they've never charged me for anything up to this point. Or, I should say, they've never charged me more than once if they did hit me up front. I know that because the card I would've used expired shortly after. 🤔

@@MSFSFlightPlans Thanks! They must have changed it. You can't bypass the credit card info. to create a free account now.

Did they give any indication of what the charge would be, or when it would be triggered? I should probably make an announcement about that as a lot of people as asking about the sattelite images.

@@MSFSFlightPlansI didn’t look too much at what’s paid versus free because I didn’t want to provide my CC # just to access satellite maps in LNM.

Yep. Should load up on everything with any of the standard suite of Garmin avionics. Not so sure about the big jets with FMCs.

Great program LNM, can it produce .FLT files for direct import into an active flight? Often I get flying and I realise I didnt import the LNM .pln file. Is there way to convert one to the other? The only way I see so far is to import the file exported from LNM (then stored on disk), by selecting MSFS "Main Menu"/World Map/... Space[More] then [Space] Load/Save.....
@MSFSFlightPlans
@MSFSFlightPlans 10 ай бұрын
That's the only way I know how to do it, but I haven't tried what you're describing either ... so that doesn't necessarily mean it can't be done. The following link takes you to the LNM manual page for export formats and extensions. I didn't see that one as an option, but if you rummage around this part of the guide, I reckon that's where it would tell you. Let me know if you work it out! www.littlenavmap.org/manuals/littlenavmap/release/2.8/en/FLIGHTPLANFMT.html#flight-plan-export-formats

@@MSFSFlightPlans A quick look over that list in the LNM manual and a lack of .FLT suggests it might not be possible. I cant find a reference to .FLT anywhere else either. I think that the file format is probably generated internally by MSFS when you build a plan in the SIM itself. Oh well, it was worth asking.
