Hello to all my wonderful wavies and curly and coily coterie!
While I was taking a little break to focus on moving, I decided to play with different styling techniques to see if I could find something new to share. In the process, I came across a video by Jannelle O'Shaughnessy where she shows how to do the Ouidad Rake and Shake Method ( • Ouidad Rake and Shake ... ). I was curious about it, but didn't think it would really work. I was sure shaking your hair like that would make it really frizzy. But to my surprise, it worked really well for my hair! Using this method gave me really defined curls, more volume, and the results lasted longer than normal for me.
After trying it once, I decided this was the routine for me. I was much happier with my results than normal. So I tried it a few more times, and each time, I was super pleased with how my hair turned out. I'm so used to styling my hair being a bit of a gamble. Sometimes it turns out well, sometimes it doesn't. But this routine took out some of the gambling when it came to my curly hair.
This technique works so well for my 2c/3a curls even with them being low porosity and having such long hair. I would recommend this to anyone with wavy hair or looser curls looking to try something new. Your results may vary depending on your hair type, length, and porosity, but I hope that this can help you to achieve the wavy hair or curly hair look you've been hoping for.

Thanks! I hope it works out for you. I have actually started using a different technique that's more consistent for me. It's pretty close to the Marisa's Curls routine I posted. I'll be doing an updated routine video here soon. But I hope this routine works for you ☺️

Thanks for reaching out! I'll see what I can do to help. Since I don't know exactly what you're already doing, I'll bounce some ideas off you and if you're already doing them, then you can disregard. It's definitely possible your hair doesn't like a ton of protein. You could try dialing back on it for a while. A few other thoughts: I'm not sure if you currently deep condition your hair. If not, I would recommend it. For me, especially in the winter where I live, it can get very dry. So I will try to deep condition every other week. Another option, you could definitely try more leave in conditioner, that might help. Or, when you get to a point where it's feeling dry, instead of washing your hair, you could add a little bit of water until it feels damp, then add your leave in conditioner for a mid week boost in moisture. My last thought was that if it's in your budget, you could try to get a serum or oil to finish styling with. This would help seal your hair and lock moisture in for longer. You wouldn't need a ton, just a few drops each time. As for sleeping with your hair, I don't really tend to pineapple mine either. It drives me nuts. Depending on what you can handle with your neck pain, I'd recommend at least doing a satin pillow case, and what I've done in the past is actually plop my hair dry on a cotton t-shirt overnight so the weight is spread out a bit. I'm about to do an updated sleeping with hair routine, so I'll include some tips in there for you as well. Hope that helped! Let me know if you have any other thoughts or questions.

Look at the camera. You’re not looking at the right spot so you’re not looking at your viewers. And it’s rake and shake not shake and rake.
