I love Guiron. Especially when Guillermo del Toro redesigned him in his homage as Knifehead. I also really enjoyed watching the MST3K and Brandon Tenold episodes making fun of the English version of the movie. This movie is so bad. But it's the only other remotely watchable entry in the Showa era after the first three.

I heard Knifehead's resemblance to Guiron was accidental. Guillermo del Toro asked the artist to design a kaiju based on a goblin shark, and the artist who made the design had never seen any Gamera movies, so it was pure coincidence (or convergent evolution) that the result looked so much like Guiron. Of course, del Toro definitely recognized the resemblance and loved it.

Yeah, the translation job on the movie was completely and utterly botched, just to put the icing on the cake of badness. "Traffic accidents" was supposed to be more like "urban chaos", or possibly general social disharmony.

@@ArcaneAzmadi I've heard that the original Japanese _was_ "traffic accidents" though. I don't speak Japanese so I can't go beyond what I've heard and what the subs and dubs I've run across say, but both of the dubs and subs that I have personally run across both use "traffic accidents" as well.

I always wondered if there was some bit of backstory for the boy's that was lost in translation or on the cutting room floor where we find out that Akaio and his sister lost their dad in a traffic accident. I mean neither their or Tom's fathers are mentioned at all in the dubs that I've watched.

For as goofy and shlocky this movie was it really amazed me in a few ways as a kid. For one thing the idea of exploring an empty alien city still seems like something fun to this day. Also the idea of multiple Gyaos on another world really blew me away. The thought that multiples of a kaiju breed could exist at the same time and that they might exist on more then one world was a staggering realization to me. So this movie will always be something special to me if for nothing else then expanding my imagination to the potential of what might be possible in a kaiju universe.

It's weird I just CAN'T get into Gamera vs. Gyaos for some reason while everyone else loves it. I was kinda bored watching it other day while I got far more into Guiron and Viras.

When I was a kid and this played on The 4:30 Movie during Monster Week, this was probably my favorite Gamera movie, in part due to the alien women shaving the one kid's head in order to eat his brains. That and the boys coming across a spaceship on their way to school have stuck with me more than the monsters.

I remember this was the first Gamera movie I ever saw. My dad took me to Blockbuster video but they were out of Godzilla movies so my dad told me Gamera is like Godzilla except he’s a turtle. So we rented it and I instantly feel in love with the Gamera franchise.

This was my first Gamera movie and since I was a kid, of course, I loved it. Seeing it again I could see its flaws and that it was just a cookie-cutter movie of the last one it is still my favorite of the Showa films because it was my first experience with Gamera, and the monster Guiron is just OUT THERE lol he is a really unique kaiju and he will always be my favorite.

What hurts this movie for me is the little sister subplot. Apparently everyone in the world forgot about the events of the last movie as all the adults fail to believe the boys were abducted, her mother going so far as to say aliens are "made up stories." Which makes little sense thanks to the stock footage bits showing scenes from previous movies, so continuity does exist.

I just watched this two days ago with Gyaos and Jiger. Honestly I just can't seem to get into the clearly bigger Gyaos movie and I'm never bored watching this one. I dunno yeah we got the kids outsmarting adults a bit but a few times the kid's plans don't pan out. Such as they destroy the controller while the women are getting zipped around only for it to be a round trip and they get captured. Guiron is just a fun brute with not only a huge knife head but remote control suriken. I also rather liked Kondo and it was sweet how he believed Susan or maybe pretended to spare her feelings. I give a pass on the recap since well I saw this as a kid before seeing Gyaos in middle school so Gyaos was new to me then. Plus it wasn't nearly as obnoxious as Viras' stock footage or Super Monster. So yeah I'm afraid I just like Guiron more than Gyaos. I mean Gamera vs. Barugon will always reign supreme as the Showa Gamera.

Seriously, my first viewing of this movie was one summer afternoon in the 1970s on New York WABC-TV's "The 4:30 Movie" during a week when they were showcasing Kaiju flicks. Imagine a kid around ten watching something in which aliens intended to eat the brains of two little kids. It was something else.

I noticed as I watch these, Gamera constantly has this look of, "I am really fucking tried of this shit. Will you people just stop breaking things for, like, five goddamn minutes? Please?!" Not even a pissed of looked, really; just done-with-your-shit. I knid of love it.

P.S. I do know that is this mostly due to the lower budget then even the lowest Godzilla flicks, but I do like to think that it adds a certain anti-hero vibe to Gamera's character. He's not just a "friend to all children," as much as he can't just not help them.

Yeah this movie is crazy. But hey! That's not Gyaos! That's Space Gyaos! Come on man. Nothing cooler than making a monster that's like a space cousin to the most popular enemy in the franchise. lol! But yeah 2 stars... That sounds about right. I still remember getting freaked out as a kid when I saw Guiron chop up Space Gyaos like a butcher though. lol.

When I first saw this movie on television, the scene where Guiron’s dismemberment of Hyper Gaos was limited to Gaos losing a leg and flying away. I saw the complete scene online six years ago and I was very surprised. A friend of mine and I talked about it and he was just as surprised as I was. The Gamera movies before the Heisei era was muddled down, or should I say dumbed down. Other than the first film and Gamera Vs. Baragon(or War Of The Monsters, which was the most adult of the entire franchise at the time)were pretty good. A word about Guiron. Guiron was a well designed monster and at the same time the silliest. Thank God for monster fights. I watch these movies get riffed on while watching Mystery Science Theater 3,000. Good times. Of the many films I have seen in this franchise, I have only missed three. Two that I want to see and one I am glad I didn’t see. The two I want to see: Gamera 3: Revenge Of Iris and Gamera: The Brave. The one I don’t want to see; Gamera, Super Monster.

This movie is essentially the same movie as the last one, except with some very minir improvements and more monster fights. And this is probably the only Gamera film where two other monsters, besides Gamera, battle each other. And it's really funny how brutal and yet silly the fights are. Still, we are again treated with two horrible child actors as the two main protagonists. But at least there is more monster action and less stock footage to sit through. And Guiron is a very interesting Kaiju and seems to be the main inspiration for some of the Kaiju's featured in Pacific Rim, especially KnifeHead. Still a weird movie, you know? Kinda Goofy. I give this one 2 stars out of 5.

I don't know, the Space Ladies' contrasting (false) benevolence and (genuine) coldbloodedness--especially when one gets injured--makes a nice change from Viras' merely-strict lab techs, who don't even really qualify as characters. Also, their desire to cut open skulls and eat human brains is a good deal more terrifying than Viras' vague threat of conquest and penchant for killing his own henchmen.

Yeah, this might not be a great movie; I really enjoyed it though. Maybe it was just refreshing to get so much more fun, cheesy monster action after the grating bore that was Gamera vs Viras. Gamera vs Jiger wasnt so bad either, a part from always ramming expo 70 into your face...

This is the only one of the outright bad Gamera films that I occasionally enjoy watching. It's still boring, cheap, and lazy in terms of story, but the monster stuff is so insanely weird and goofy that you're often transfixed. The dub also has some added hilarity since I have no idea why these children care so much about traffic accidents. Not good, but fun.
