''You love that Motorcycle more than me'', She said.... Don't be silly darling I replied, without the required amount of conviction...... I'm finding the garage quite comfortable now I've moved the 'Bikes' and tools to one side so that I can just get my bed in, plus a old paraffin heater I found lurking at the rear of the garage under an old army greatcoat.

The mudguard can be hinged up out the way instead. Remove the two rear bolts, loosen the two under the seat and hinge it up out the way. This is also handy if you need to remove the back wheel.

Thank you very much for another clear technical video. I really do value your videos: I have an RE Classic but it is your observations on the areas of difficulty which I really benefit from. In passing I had to remove my RE Classic rear shocks and the lower nut & washer on the LH is a beggar. I used an old trick that may be helpful. I "stuck" the washer to the nut and then the nut into the open ended spanner with some Red n' Sticky grease. This holds everything together until the thread of the bolt engages. Its easy to wipe away after and it has the added advantage of keeping the home mechanic on the right side of the neighbours. (No swearing!). I'm off now to watch your "on-Road" experience with these Hagon Shocks. Thank you, again and please do keep 'em coming!

Hi Stuart, I was on the point of ordering Hagon shocks for my classic from a well-know supplier when your video popped up. So I telephoned Hagon and, sure enough, they wanted to know my weight (ligher than average probably) as well as the bike details. Also, I ordered 1 cm shorter than stock for my little short legs. The result is great! Silky smooth on 'ordinary' roads and only noticeable on really bumpy bits. Best of all, the fully enclosed, stainless shrouds, shield all the cow pats, sileage and mud off the springs. Thanks again for the tip!

Hi Stuart, great video.Ordered from Hagon on Monday.Dave wasn’t in so ordered anyway, when asked told the person RE Bullet 500.They arrived on Wednesday, matched them up to bike and they were 4 cm too long.Thinking they might be right as when old ones removed maybe it drops down and will fit.Phoned Hagon and spoke to probably Dave and he confirmed they sent wrong shocks. However he assured me the correct size would be with me on Friday which indeed it was.Whilst talking to him discovered I had inadvertently ordered the cheap non stainless steel version so that was rectified.Fitting went well we fitted them in less than an hour thanks to your excellent video, and they look amazing. Not able to test them yet as weather not good, will give my report when able to test. Thanks again Stu can’t wait for the next update to the Bullet.

The C5 is getting better all the time! Lowering the mudguard is really the best and safest way to go when you're working alone. In two, one could remove the lower mudguard retaining bolts, but just slacken the upper ones - so the other person would just slowly pivot the mudguard up and make enough room to slide the shock bolts out. The risk, again, is to put stress on the rear electrical wires, which is a no-no. And yes, you really have to work in a tight spot for the lower left shock retaining bolt: there is also the brake hose to watch out for. It has a nasty tendency to drop, even slightly, and we don't want for it to end up squeezed behind the nut while we re-tighten it (been there, and it isn't pretty).

If you take out the bolt at the bottom of the mudguard frame by the foot pegs, the mudguard can be swung up so that you can pull out the top shock bolts. I also use this method to remove the rear wheel, swing the mudguard up and pull out the back wheel. The bike only has to be on the centre stand.

Hey Stu.. Not suspension related by single seat related.. The front bolt on the seat is square.. Any idea why? Ive noticed while riding that the seat springs don't really do anything.. They seem to be there for looks only. I'm thinking about changing that square bolt for a round one and see if the springs will start working.. My butt gets numb after about 100km and like riding longer.. What do you think about my plan on changing that bolt.. Do you think the springs will be too bouncy?

If your Classic is like mine ( a 2017 model), the top shock absorber bolts are actually 3/8" BSF but with metric size heads (15mm & 17mm). Just another quirk of the bike but it's worth knowing. An M10 bolt will not fit.

As an adjunct to my comment I like to add an observation about suspension. A couple of months back I changed the oil in the front forks to a fully synthetic of the same weight (5w). My thinking was, as engine oil of the same specification ( fully synthetic) is supposed to last longer, presumably the same applied to suspension oil. If I believed I could change the oil then go merrily on my way ..... wrong!...My bike that has stiff-ish suspension anyway 'rattled my fillings' out the first time I ventured onto a rough B type road. Make note... not all oil manufacturers specifications are equal...''some are more equal than others''....to quote George Orwell. The upshot was I had to adjust the compression and rebound damping ..Street Triple 675...Now, I know many bikes do not have the afore mentioned adjustments but it may be worth a little research before committing yourself to a type of oil if you intend a front end modification....Greeting from España....T-shirt and flip-flops..its supposed to be 36c today...

I had a question, because there was sometime on your site a while back and on most of the Indian based vlogs about the the Classic 500. It was said that Royal Enfield has stopped production. But when I was on the phone with Royal Enfield headquarters in Chennai ordering a next round os bikes. The head of the Asia/Pacific region told me that the domestic production line (India) of the Classic 500 had stopped. So I'm not sure why people have said it was discontinued, if we were able to order 20 along with the Continentals and Himalayans. This is where I am confused a bit and even when we had customers come in. Vlogs are saying its been discontinued, but yet the head of sales for the Asia/Pacific region at the head office ion Chennai is saying they only discontinued it for the domestic market. When I ordered them last Friday there was no issue even when making a request for 2 bikes to have a special colour.
