Really nice review. I have the Futaba 4PL and it is the only radio I keep. WIth 40 memories, I couldn't really justify getting another one. Really like how you bulk up the grip with self-amalgamating tape. My only issue is that it covers up the SW1 Push button. Like you said, the antenna did break on mine although it wasn't me who broke it. After a bit of heat shrink, it is solid as a tank.

When I first got into the hobby a couple of years ago I bought a spektrum dx2e for the kit I was building because I didn't know any better. I quickly realized that for $50 the Flysky gt3c was a much better option for the money. I sold my spektrum and haven had an issue since.

I used the flysky gt3c for years, it always worked well for me and it was cheap. I recently upgraded to the flysky nb4, love it so far! The worst part about it is trying to find receivers and telemetry sensors for it. About the only place to find them is in China. I’ve had hit and mix experiences when ordering stuff from there. I managed to get enough receivers but I’m still trying to get ahold of some temp sensors.

I bought the Spektrum DX5R, and it seemed quite difficult to use at first. My biggest gripe was that it wasn't binding well to receivers. After a firmware update, it seemed a bit better, but I'm wondering if a Futaba would have been a better choice. I've not had issues with range, but I'm not a speed run kind of guy. At least the DX5R allowed the use of a battery pack which was one of the things I was looking for, along with an adjustable wheel positioning option.

The tactic was/is a good radio... setting them up was a touch clunky, but once done, they were great for a simple model... we have 2 that came with RTR Axial trucks, and I liked them enough that I bought another for a vehicle that didn't need expo and a lot of programming... I have a handful of radios, but am now researching for at least 1 more... my son is getting fairly competitive in offroad racing and I want to get him a good radio just for his race buggies and trucks. Considering the 4PM, but leaning toward the Sanwa or DX5PRO route...

Great timing this video. I just got back into RC cars since the early 90’s and there had been a lot to learn about how to charge LIPO batteries and so on. Just received my Arrma Typhon 3S today and my god the STX2 feels so cheap. That thing will still feel cheap even in a toy grade car. I’m pretty much down to the same 2 Futabas and the DX5C on this video. Also looked at the Sanwa MT-S and the MT-44 but not many places sell them here in Aus so I think that could be an issue in the future. I will be getting either the 3PV or the 4PM however not sure if it’s because of the COVID-19 lockdown, most Australian online stores with reasonable prices are sold out. Must have been a lot of online shopping going on. Thank you for this video.

The warehouse of the Futaba distributor here is Australia caught fire a couple of months ago and distribution of the brand basically froze since then. Apparently the lower Arrmas now come with an STX-3 controller. Not sure how much more different that is from the 2 version, besides having an extra channel. Give that one a look and let us know. I personally didn't like the Tactic one, layout wise at least, and in fact I find the STX2 to be more conveniently designed and has more to offer with the TH dual rate and power % limiter on it. Will give the 4pm a shot with your reco though 👍🏽

After reading all the reviews for NB4. I got it right away with my new Mojave. The biggest issue I had was the normal size receiver that it came with did not fit in the Arrma receiver box. So I put in the small size on (read on ArrmaForum that it also has decent range). Unfortunately it's range was about 200 meters and after it went out of range it kept accelerating the car (probably the last command it received) and ran it full speed into a tree, luckily no on was hurt. I am waiting for the servo saver parts right now to be delivered to fix the damage, already changed the front left arm. Also learned that Arrma uses Red loctite on the servo saver parts. Bad luck galore :)

Great video, at the start I was really hoping to see the Flysky FS-GT5 there, especially now that you said you’ve owned their older models and didn’t like them. I’m really curious to see what your thoughts would be on the new one. I was shopping around for something to replace my DX2E Infraction radio and bought a GT5 with 2 gyro receivers for $90 including shipping and couldn’t be happier. IMO this radio beats any Spektrum in the price range by a long shot. I only wish I could program features to a certain channel but for the price it’s hard to complain.

I had a long break from RC and am looking to get back in. I dipped out when 95% of ppl at the track were already running 2.4GHz but it wasn't uncommon to see a 40MHz FM user in between. Yes that guy was me. The price of changing everything over to 2.4GHz was daunting to me back then, bc I had (well still have just haven't used them since then) a good few main cars I switched between. I was really hoping that after about 8 years, prices would've dropped a little. But looking at pricing online right now, that doesn't seem to be the case. Sure the transmitters themselves got a bit better, but stayed at about the same price. And the damn receivers are still the worst. Right now I'm trying to decide if I should settle for a Sanwa MT-S and call it a day, or if I should just go for a MT-44 or Futaba T4PM (both of which are available at about the same price here). I kept reading that Futaba receivers are much cheaper than the Sanwa ones but looking at online pricing that doesn't seem to be the case right now, is that a 'rona thing and will change later on or is it likely to stay this way? I really don't know...

The best cheap radio is the Flysky GT5. If your on a tight budget. I recommend saving furthing and stepping up to Futaba 3pv. If you can swing more or willing to save up longer go right to the 4pm. The radio is a one time purchase if you do it right. Better to have more functionality than you need and not need it than to advance and then find out you need something you don’t have. Then your left with one option. Upgrade again. If your not on a budget and you might want to get into racing or just want the best of the best. Futaba 7PX is second to none. I tried the Spektrum line and hated them. I even bought DX6R just to say I tried it and I literally used it one day and sold it and went to the 7PX. Tried to save a few hundred but ended up spending it anyway. When it comes to Radios and Chargers. It’s the couple items that you use everyday and can justify the cost as it will be a one time purchase. Icharger 406 Duo, and Futaba 7PX and done. Sure a bit out of most people’s range but I look at like I have them now and I never have to upgrade again. One and done.

The flysky gt-5 should be good too, but i haven't tried it plus the NB4 should be able to use 8 channels by now so once i get time to look into that my crawler will be using the nb4 too.

Thomas Nielsen almost got a DX5C. Had one in order until I saw that AVC receivers were $80. Canceled that order and got a Flysky GT5. Incredible radio for the price. Would recommend it to anyone.

I use a futaba 4pv and it's a shame they dropped it & support. It is identical feel wise to the 7PX, think has even more features than the 4PM, but was too much price point wise.

Since the SRX200 is FHSS protocol can it be bound to the Fuataba 3PV? The radio can work with SHSS, FHSS ,and THSS protocol receivers...
@AussieRCPlayground
@AussieRCPlayground 4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, no, you can't mix different brands of radios and receivers. Spektrum must work with Spektrum and Futaba with Futaba. Sorry.
@hiimdrummer03

@@AussieRCPlayground i know thats normally the case because of the different protocols. Spektrum is DSMR and Futaba is FHSS. However this spektrum uses FHSS and so does Futaba...

Yes, you would. Unless you use a different radio that also has a gyro in the receiver, you will no longer have any form of traction control.

If you can find it used, the Futaba 3PK or still available new, the Spektrum DX4R Pro are left-hand configurable. The parts required are included with the Spektrum transmitter. I've been looking for left hand remotes for a while. There are not a lot of reasonably priced models out there, but most of the premium radios ($600 US and more) can be left-hand configured. This was one segment of the RC community that Vas really dropped the ball on with this review.

No, not at all. It's just that most people I've spoken to don't want to charge multiple batteries for the radio, they just want one. One big one. That was point I was trying to make.
