Urban Legends: Final Cut is a misunderstood masterpiece

In the year 2000, shortly before I was born, a sequel to the 1998 slasher film Urban Legend was released to little fanfare. The resulting film, Urban Legends: Final Cut, was dismissed by most critics and audiences as a lackluster rehash of the first film. But I know different. I know better. This is the satirical film school-set non-slasher film you never knew you needed, with a surprisingly star-studded cast. That last part should really come as no surprise; after all, film is a collaborative medium.
There aren't really chapters for this video, it's more of a stream-of-consciousness meltdown.

Okay but the original has uncanny valley QUEEN Alicia Whitt and I’m gonna need you to go down a deep dive on her. Watch her music videos, watch her childhood prodigy interviews, especially watch the terrifying hallmark movie with her in it called Christmas list

Urban Legends 3: Bloody Mary is also underrated, not because the movie is any good, but just because the spider scene is a little masterpiece on its own.

The killers mask may have been an homage to a little obscure first wave 80s slasher movie called Graduation Day where the fencing mask made a little more sense since the targets were all student athletes

i watched this movie a few months ago and the main things i said in the group chat after were 1. a waste of Ava Mendes as a lesbian and i pointed out the same scene where her relationship is used as a fantasy for a straight guy, 2. that the mis-en-scene line was so funny and out of place LOL, and 3. i also laughed so hard/really felt the "film is a collaborative medium" scene, gotta send that as a reaction to something relevant in the gc. Exciting to hear u mention these moments !!! I also brought up the two crew guys talking abt George Lucas when my friend was visiting my campus lol I watched this and your video on "War" back to back so it was funny to have a plot twist of both secret twins and a guy that secretly replaced/looks like another guy right next to each other. I am maybe noticing something u might appreciate in certain movies haha I can't say I really enjoyed the Urban Legend(s) movies because I got kinda bored, but focusing in on specific elements does reveal that there are some hidden gems. I do love the Pam Grier obsession. The fencing mask reminded me of the slasher movie "Graduation Day". At the end of the movie i went omg and snapped a pic of the killer from the last movie and then i realized "this is only something i will care about, this means nothing" lmao

I like the lighting and set pieces, and the wardrobe is very condensed 2000. I also think the fencer mask was picked as a slasher homage like Michael Myers or more likely Jason Vorhees (which his to my knowledge isnt explained, why'd it be at a summer camp?). Thanks for the video:) and now I'm to read your thesis
@jane-mulcahy
@jane-mulcahy 7 ай бұрын
see but Micheal Myers wearing a mask makes sense because the movie takes place on Halloween, and in Friday the 13th it actually is explained why Jason has the hockey mask- in the 3rd film (he doesn't wear a mask in the first, isn't even the killer, then in the 2nd he wears a burlap sack as a mask) one of the kids at the camp has the hockey mask and Jason takes it from him when he kills him. not great explanations but they are technically there, so I stand by the fencing mask not making any sense! thank you for watching and being interested in the thesis lolol

Just started watching this and one thing that stood out to me immediately was that a TV series based on horror audio drama Archive 81 was in the background of Scott Derrickson’s filmography? When and why did they make a TV series out of Archive 81? Is it good? I’ve fallen out of most podcast fandom, but I haven’t heard about a TV adaptation for one since the announcements of adaptations for The Bright Sessions and WTNV in 2017, neither of which have seen the light of day to my knowledge. The fact that an Archive 81 show actually exists in a tangible watchable format has flabbergasted me. I’m going to get back to watching the video now but Jesus Christ
