The outside stone walls are beautifully well kept. Today, nothing compares to that workmanship.

You are my new favorite. I'm in Maryland so not far from a lot of these places. I love love love that you do research on the places!! I'm more of a history person and like to know the background of the places. so far your one of the very few that do that. there's an old house and plantation here where I'm at, used to be tobacco farms with slaves. now the barns are just preserved and the house is being taken over by the woods.

It must have been a lovely house when first built so long ago. It's sad to see the old places in a state of disrepair. I'm partial to stone houses as I live in a small stone cottage. Thanks for sharing! :-)

That is a really cool old place. I thought it looked familiar! You've been there before! Im glad to hear it will not be demolished... that would be a shame. Those old stone houses are awesome and will not be built ever again. I know of 3 of them not too far from where I live and one that was all redone was beautiful...it burned down. Gone from history!

Attics were commonly used as lofts as in a hay loft where hay or bagged grains would have been stacked requiring more beams than those required for a simple open ceiling design.

I'm with you on the ceiling. I like the wood beam look myself. I also liked the stairs and the banister. I didn't like what they did with the kitchen and the bathroom.

Use to be an amazing home behind this and to the right. Sad it had fore and water damage. I was in that on 20ish years ago. I went in this stone home about 5 years ago.

Awesome exterior . The house looks very good inside .I am glad copper prices are down all it takes is one lunk head and the place is thousands in damages and the theif gets his 300 bucks .I am glad its not going to be demolished , Nice basement .

Talk about good timing: I was at a library clearance sale and bought a book called "Early American Homes" and then when I got back to my place there was your video! I recently saw an abandoned exploration video from England and noticed a similarity between the two houses: the fireplaces and chimneys being within the house so that they extend into the rooms rather than out from the house. Maybe keeps more heat inside? Too the fireplaces/chimneys here have an unusual asymmetrical arrangement and shape. Great news that the house is to be saved and I hope that the basement fireplace can go with the house; it's too good to lose.

that molding on the staircase is there to hide the transition from the stringer(zigzag piece of wood that holds the steps) to the drywall and those beams are ceiling joists that they left them for structural reasons

Hey Steve, That was a very interesting tour!! I was so glad to hear it 's going to be saved! I wish more could be. I love old homes, always have. I grew up in one in NC. It had been abandoned and not lived in in years. As soon as I walked thru one of the front doors I immediately fell in love with it!! When I told my new school mates where I lived, they told me it was haunted. I thought they were just trying to scare me because I was the new kid, but it really was haunted!! No lie!! And I loved that about it as well!! I still love that old house and consider it my "real" home even though I've lived in my home now for 20 years. I would dream about it all the time. In 1995 I had the opportunity to go and visit it and the people living there remembered my last name and graciously let me go inside and walk around. I felt like I was home again. It was funny as we were the leaving the lady of the house asked me if I'd ever gone up into the attic. I told her no, I actually never knew how to access the attic. I knew why she was asking me that question. And she understood that. So, I guess 20 years later whoever was haunting it while I was there is still at it!! LOL!!! theres a house that was built in 1800's and it had a kitchen in the basement with fire place made of stone like in Ur video. and its still up. there's many reasons why kitchen in bottom of house.

If they wait much longer, the house won't be worth moving or restoring. They need to move it and hit it with a paint brush or a bulldozer, take your pick...lol But seriously, this is a very unique and creative looking house, being built with those types of stones.
