This was very helpful, thank you. I just bought two matching serial numbered M1917 rifles at auction (Winchester & Eddystone) and now need a Winchester and Remington bayonet.

I have one of the US M1917s with the slashed out Enfield inspection markings. The one marked in the video as 'British Contract' 2:21. 2nd pattern scabbard. These bayonet videos are gold.

Nice collection, thx for sharing! My dad had a 1917 style bayonet and I was trying to match it with yours. Unfortunately, someone stole it or he sold it and didn’t remember, so I don’t have it.

I was looking for info on a bayonet that has been in the family. Learnt it's a P1917, US model and not British ( I'm in the UK ). This helped a lot, thankyou!

Thank you. Have you seen the ones we did on German bayonets and the one on Springfield bayonets? Will eventually do one on Japanese bayonets.

@@stang3787 Thanks for your reply. I'm going to visit your channel to check your videos on the Springfield and German bayonets. I'm interested in your next one on Japanese bayonets (I have a Type 30 Variation A, and I'll enjoy to know more about this bayonet)

I have a bayonet (no scabbard) that I'm trying to identify. It has 3 vertical letters/symbols then a larger X to the right of those letters. Any idea? No hole in the handle/pommel. Also the tip of the blade is more tanto than a regular point tip. It's very similar to the m1917 but I haven't seen these markings on any others and the tip is a bit different. Actually looking at that p13 winchester it has the same markings but no arrow and the x is to the side. Also there is no fuller it's just a flat blade

that was fun, but no mention of the grooves filed in the grips, I thought it was a British home guard thing
@stanleygurski7733

The original bayonet for the MKIII had smooth grips. The grooves were added for the P13 bayonet to make it easier to distinguish and America just kept the design.

Why does he call the fuller of the blade a "blood groove"? O_o That's not what that's for, at all. Also, as a note to viewers, all of the bayonets that he described as "P13 bayonets" are actually for the P14 rifles. The bayonet was designed for the original P13 rifle, but when they put the rifle in .303 and adopted it as the P14 rifle, the bayonet did not change, though the nomenclature probably did, because it's the British. So just as a note, they are the same thing. :D

It is a fuller. These presentations are not rehearsed and errors slip in. The P13 bayonet was developed with the P13 rifle. When the rifle was changed to 303 it became the P14. Bayonet stayed P13. The other error was that the P13 became the M1917. It did not. the P14 evolved into M1917. See my other video on the history of the 1917 enfield on ASP.

Why did you repeat everything I said? They pretty routinely share misinformation at these presentations, so I really doubt that it's "errors slipping in". Most likely it's more "Well my grandpa said", fuddlore, and not knowing any better. There was a video where they talked about the M1 Ping myth and pushed the whole "That'll get you killed in the streets" BS, too. It's to be expected, and why I usually respond with corrections - in the hopes that it will be passed on to the presenter or that other viewers will be educated by it.

Cool..... does the military today still use bayonet today or is it too obsolete to use today

Bayonets are in the inventory, and I know that they are in-country in Afghanistan, but to my knowledge they are not being issued. Most soldiers I know aren't event being trained on how to use one. Marines I believe do issue them, and train on them, but they may have stopped.
