The first and second generations of AirPods made by Apple were given a score of 0 out of 10 by repair specialists at iFixit. A few years later, the Pro version came out, and it still received a 0 out of 10. AirPods are not designed to be serviced. No hardware components can be accessed without damage to the device, making it a consumable/disposable item. Hundreds of millions of devices were sold, each one having three sealed-in batteries. This makes it a total electronic waste disaster.
After the success of Ken Pillonel's previous project, a 3D-printed case and custom USB-C part for the AirPods Gen. 1 and 2 (and the world's first USB-C iPhone), he decided to replicate the mod for the AirPods Pro series, due to great demand. The goal was to find a solution that gives a second life to the allegedly unopenable cases, which all face an inevitable end of life because of their built-in battery.
Now, Ken decided to sell the USB-C replacement PCB himself. He realized that 2 million people watched the last video where a similar project is done for the original AirPods, and only a few attempted to repair it as shown. This proved that it is too difficult to build integrated circuits at home, and the only way to have a real impact is to lower the difficulty of repair by making the ready-to-install hack available to purchase.
This video is a DIY tutorial to show how to install the modification.

This has been such a cool journey and it's so cool to see that 1. If we need to replace the charging port it's now an option and 2. We don't need to rely on manufacturers like Apple to implement hardware that we want.

Is there any way this can or will be possible or compatiable with the regular AirPod gen 2 case. I prefer the original design of earbuds over the ones with the rubber tips and would love to a mod like this to my pair.

C’était super intéressant à regarder mais un peu trop technique pour moi à réaliser malheureusement. Ce qui serait top ce serait qu’une entreprise réalise une coque de protection pour le boîtier des AirPods Pro avec une prise usb-c. Je sais pas si ce serait réalisable.

you don't need to carry as many cables. If your phone is also usb c, then you can effectively have usb c for everything, only needing 1 cable.

Unity with normality. Apple wants to live outside the box so they can rip as much cash from you as possible. With this mod, you'll only need one cable, one charger, for all your other stuff. In Europe, they will be forced by EU law to put these in, but this mod is for people who already have these pods as is.

As much as it hurts me to say, as i hate hApple products, these are better. And i'm not saying it because i've used these, but because JBL hasn't been its own brand in a while now. It's cheap chinese junk that's rebranded under the JBL brand.
