USDJPY tends to go up because of the current interest rate differential - you can't blindly follow this bias forever as this is subject to change... The same could be said for any two major currencies with a large interest rate differential. This isn't an edge, it's just curve fitting. If this strategy was profitable on both longs and shorts, I'd consider it a robust edge - for now it's just curve fitting!

@@StatOasis Yes, because Japan's central bank is addicted to low interest rates and the devaluing of its currency. We're now approaching critical territory and the BoJ have been increasingly vocal about the idea that they may abandon their long term policy.... And if this happens, this "edge" will disappear overnight! I don't think this is a strong sustainable edge, and is textbook curve fitting - A real edge in algorithmic trading is found when you can be profitable going long or short!!!

You have great interviewing skills, I loved the interview you did with Perry Kauffman. Why don't you do more interviews of this type with other renowned algorithm traders like Andrea Unger, to give an example, or someone for whom I also have a great admiration and high respect as I have for yourself, and that is David Bergstrom the man behind the Build Alpha software. The best publicly available software for validating strategies with a countless number of excellent robustness tests.

Hi Ali, What criteria you use for deciding the other filter? do you looked at the return on max drawdown above 3 like you mentioned or something else?

I consider Ret/DD is very important, then you can layer anything that is important to you, for example number of trades, drawdown period, etc.

@@StatOasisso does entry and exit parameter same across the strategy? Or you change the entry and exit lookback period depending on the filter?
