FI are an excellent business to deal with. I'm a DIY guy putting an interchiller on my old valiant, working from the ground up as a long term project. Even though my project is just a 60's resto-mod build and these systems often go on big dollar modified exotics and 7-8sec drag cars, he still wanted to make sure I had the knowledge to optimize my system on the old val and make sure it works as it should. Before they sent mine out, The owner of the business called and spent about 40mins on the phone with me. He googled pictures of my specific make/model to offer tips on getting maximum airflow to the condenser as well as sizing my AC pump with a high quality unit. He answered any questions I had and told me to call if i run into any issues. Mine basically paid for itself on the dyno. Being able to reverse heat-soak and actively control your IAT saves hours of wasted dyno time. You can get a whole weekend's worth of steady state tuning done on a Saturday morning. 👍

Something to add, now that I've watched the video - the other purpose for the interchiller shutoff valve is so you can use the system on a track without the evaporator dripping water on the track. Cutting out the cabin air means you're not pulling moisture out of the air and so there's no water to evacuate. A lot of tracks mandate turning off the a/c (especially in hotter climates).

That plate heat exchanger/interchiller is massive 👌 just a brilliant idea to control the AIT's. I completely agree with the volume amount in the tank/buffer. 20L is a good amount of thermal capacity but say another 20L, That would really help and guarantee the temps too stay low on a hard circuits. The pdm to control the setup is incredible also. We are really living the dream to the world of tuning cars... anything is possible. Keep the vids coming 👍

Cool stuff PB, with interchillers there will be condensation inside the intercooler. You will notice this when you cruise at low load for about 20mins then tip in the throttle. Water condensate will be drawn into the engine causing some bad combustion. With the Motec if you have M1 build write some software to control the solenoid valve so your target intake temp is at about 20c. That way you will have way more reserve cooling capacity (low temp) stored in the chiller tank for high boost.
@notsofresh8563
@notsofresh8563 Жыл бұрын
Since his is a water to air system, and the AC is cooling the water via the heat exchanger, The a/c is isolated from the air charge. If the ac is controlled to keep the water temp at ambient and never lower, the condensation at low load will be the same as without A/C. As long as you don't cool the air lower than ambient temperature, water shouldn't condense. You need a pressure and/or temperature drop below ambient to get condensate. That is never the case after a turbo. If you put A/C into an air/air system it will condense because the core is much colder than ambient and exposed to air charge directly. Ideally you would tune the car to turn off the A/C while cruising because it isn't necessary and makes the car more efficient.
@AndrewEG
@AndrewEG Жыл бұрын
@@notsofresh8563if he cools the air below the dew point of the air he will end up with condensate in the intake air. The dew point is a function of amount of water in the ambient air, aka humidity. I deal with this stuff working in engine cal for a OEM
@notsofresh8563
@notsofresh8563 Жыл бұрын
@@AndrewEG That is why I talked about not cooling the air below ambient by controlling the AC with the water temp of intercooler. After the turbo the air is under more pressure and temp than ambient, thus further from dew point. As long as the water in the intercooler is above dew point no condensation will occur(rarely is dew point above ambient) Granted the core may be colder but in a water/air setup it is immersed in the intercooler water, not the air. The water temp is the one that matters. as it is what interacts with the air. Condensation in an air/air setup is way harder to control because the ac core is in the air and way below dew point.
@notsofresh8563
@notsofresh8563 Жыл бұрын
@@AndrewEG In addition, using the ecu to turn off the ac in light load/cruising situations both prevents your pooling condensate problem but also reduces parasitic loss at low load increasing fuel efficiency without sacrificing high load power.

Thanks for input. So far i have not noticed any problem with low load driving. For the solenoid i can write a control logic in the PDM. But my plan is to control the temp to not be too cold during normal driving with water pump speed. Right now it is on full speed all the time.

Wow brilliant Peter. I had this idea for a long time also but not building cars at the moment. Actually I want to ask why you use AC-water-air transfer, why not just AC-air directly? Seems complicated and extra weight. Only reason I see maybe is that you cool 'extra' water in the tank and when you accelerate water is slow to heat up Vs AC would heat soak faster. I am curious to hear what your experience is because I really like this. Super cool sir and loads of useful info. Tack!
