Train with me in Singapore this August: bit.ly/FightTIPSinSingapore
Here's a great isolation drill to improve the speed of your jab and straight punches. This point of this exercise is to develop the muscle from the shoulder down, so that you can "snap" your punches faster! This way, when you do spring off the ground using your leg muscle, and rotate your hips, the punch itself be super quick!

dont use full force when trying to puch, you want your hand somewhat relaxed and before the impact activate your full hand mucles. i dont know much about this, i am not a pro, i have 0 experience in this subject, but that seems to make punches faster.

I actually broke my arm from repeatedly overextending my arm with the jab and cross, so you really have to watch out with this. My tip is to rotate your hand at the end, because the corckscrew motion will take the impact away from the elbow and you won't feel any pain.

@@danielhiggins8798 My thoughts exactly. How weak must you be to break your arm throwing a jab ?? I'm not even a boxer and I got a decent jab for only being an occasional practitioner of this skill. I think he might not be flexible or have enough strength to pull that jab off. I used to have a similar problem with my form and throwing the jab but never did I feel I would break my ✋. Ha ha !

Great video Shane! Two things: 1. When you show punches, it would be great that you also had the camera angle from behind you, so that people can see how you work your shoulders and how the elbows are kept inside your frame. 2. Nice tip with curls, but I think the best trick to avoid pain from hyperextension is rotating your fist so that your pinky is higher than your index on impact. This rotation helps the joint in solidifying and thus puts less strain on your elbow.

Thanks for upload bro. This is a good foundation technique in TMA and works wonders. Using isometric holds like straight arm planks (SAP): one arm SAP; handstand, one arm handstand for up to 5 minutes is good, then progress from SAP using tight clenched fist to single arm handstand (against a wall) really develops your punching kinetic chain and all muscle tendon bone and ligament units involved, it also increase bone and mitochondrial density. Happy training . Peace.

What about like a fighter that keeps his hands down like a Roy Jones fighter wouldn't the drill be harder and with that stance it's not as squared and kind of have to use more hip

I am a fourth degree black in karate, when to step jab or cross, you never want to fully lock the arm when doing the technique. If you hit someone with a fully locked arm you will mostly likely break your arm. You should always have a very slight bend in the elbow when performing the technique. Again, not a big bend, but a very slight bend.

Jay FJ When you punch, you are a lot more vulnerable, so boxers do it so the wind doesn’t get knocked bout of them if they get caught with a punch

i use to train my jab and cross like this or just about any punch you start slow in a comfrotable position and as the punch seems smoother you up the pace and power and start drilling it first comes technique then speed then power thanx shane
