So, Chris Wee just bought a BMW E39. His is an early batch 523i, which runs on the 2.5-litre M52 Single VANOS engine rated at 170hp.
In comparison, my late batch 520i ran the more advanced 2.2-litre M54 Double VANOS engine rated, on paper, also at 170hp, but with lesser torque.
But besides the engine, The E39 received very significant changes throughout its 7-year production cycle. Many things between CW's car and mine are unique and not interchangeable.
