The Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart is like Liam Hemsworth-not quite as tough or cool as Chris, but still much more refined than Luke. After a decade of driving across thousands of kilometers, is it faring better than Liam's marriage to Miley, or is it doomed to fail?

It's the funniest car because of that. If you have a sport exhaust on it, props to Mitsubishi because my OEM Lancer Ralliart exhaust was the nicest sounding of all stock exhausts I've heard. In Sport Mode, it is so much fun, raising the rev limiter. Still, I would point out that the Ralliart is far more reliable than the Evo. There is less pressure on the engine thanks to the single-scroll turbo and the lower torque. It all wears less on the Getrag transmission and the engine block.

I bought a 2011 Lancer Ralliart Sportback new from my local dealer and now, 12 years and 110k miles later, it's still going strong. Luckily for me, no transmission issues so far. The main issues have been that one of the front daytime running lights burns out a couple of days after the bulb is replaced--not worth the cost to track down that problem so I just live with it. That may or may not be related to the other issue I have which is that the audio system volume control on the steering wheel sometimes engages my phone. Again, it's not worth the cost of the repair to fix so I just use the volume control mounted on the actual factory audio system (I have the factory Rockford/Fosgate audio system). The leather seats help make the interior seem more upscale, and I love that the factory navigation system allows the audio system to store mp3 rips of CDs you put in the system, so that after a while, you have a music server built into your dash. I have some 200+ albums always available in the car without having to stream from my phone. I probably have one of the few completely stock Ralliarts still on the road. It's a fun, mostly trouble-free car. By far the best car I've ever owned.

I'm actually excited about this one. My 2009 lancer sportback was the most reliable car I've ever owned. I always wished I'd bought the ralliart... but even the 1.8 mivec was thirsty.. They ride really smooth with lower springs and gas struts. Even on my "09" the traction/stability control was brilliant. Edit.. Yeah, 18L/100 is absurd for 240 hp. Glad I swapped for the Leon Cupra.

I don't think its possible for the fuel consuption to be that bad. I've tracked my Evo IX over the years and my absolute average is 12L/100, and then consider the 4B11T is a far more efficient motor than the 4G63T, that claim just doesn't pass the sniff test.

Dead on review of the Ralliart. I ended up purchasing a 2010 Sportback in an attempt to find 'one of those cool cars that never really caught on and nobody knows about'. I remember back in 2010 seeing one at the local Mitsubishi dealership in the Rotor Glow Orange color and drooling over it, and I remember nobody really every buying them and then them just disappearing along with the Evo in 2015. I bought one that pretty much fits checks all the boxes of what to avoid, as you correctly described 😂. The clear coat is shot and has been buffed to the point of burning through the base in a couple of spots, it has a very agressive tune on it of questionable origin with boost tuned to around 25 to 27 psi, several dings/dents, and was owned by a previous owner at some point who called him P**SY SLAYER (according to the bluetooth in the aftermarket android headunit). However, it is completely rust free underneath and has a multitude of decent upgrades including Evo turbo and intercooler, ETS Intake, Magnaflow exhaust, and upgraded engine mounts. Roughly about $4k worth new when I did the math. I picked it up with a non-working SST for around $4,000 USD and swapped in a used valve body I bought off Ebay for 200 bucks to make it move again. SST still needs rebuilt, as it slips a bit on top end, and I ended up picking up a spare one (with a detached fork magnet) to rebuild and swap in. For the money I spent on it, it's a hilariously fast and fun car to drive. (I do feel it's a bit of ticking time bomb but oh well.....slowly working towards getting it not to be). I'd be hard pressed to find any other car capable of what it can do for the little I've spent so far. In my opinion with what I know now, I'm not even sure I'd buy one of these at full price that had been decently maintained. This is due to the long laundry list of legacy issues the SST transmission had over the years. If I were to purchase a 'nice' Ralliart (or MR Evo for that matter), I'd want one where the SST had been rebuilt by one of the few reputable shops capable of doing it properly, with receipts.

I'm not sure about using only Mitsubishi oil. The Getrag DC470 and Getrag DC430 are used by Mitsubishi, and the smaller one is used by Volvo and Ford. The Ford and Volvo oil also work, and many say that Castrol Transmax Dual Clutch works as well. This is because Mitsubishi sells the DiaQueen oil under the name Castrol BOT 341 in Europe and Western Asia, including Saudi Arabia, considering that it is the Transmax, it's highly unlikely that Castrol makes a special mixture of a few thousand liters in each region just for one OEM. For example, in the US, because of some ingredients in the Mitsubishi SAE 90, it was temporarily banned, and Mitsubishi announced that dealers would have to use Eneos 80W90.

Original sst melted, had it swapped out by kozmic motorsports for a hp10HR. Full bolt ons otherwise and a slightly better turbo and that thing hauled absolute ASS. Sad I sold it but, also happy. Would have got a GSR If I had better ones around at the time. The trans sucks OEM but engine wise that thing was a work horse. I autocrossed and dragged it often during summers and outside of doing plugs and drive train fluid and engine oil, the car was a hoot. It also helps that my tune on it were from people who specialize in evos which is also very important for the cars health.

I bought a base manual black coloured ES Lancer new in 2008. Two things continually peed me off about that car. 1. The paint so easily chipped and the rear dog legs past the rear doors were particularly susceptible to chips and sand blasting effect from debris thrown back from the front wheels, and to a lesser extent the rear doors themselves. Problem was exacerbated by Mitsubishi using a white undercoat under the black top coat which makes every stone chip stick out like dog's balls. 2. There was literally no where you could comfortably rest your right arm while still being able to hold the steering wheel. The arm rest on the door card seems to be there for decoration rather than functionality and is poorly placed. Long road trips were very tiring because of this.

I had a MR and my sister bought one as well a few months later, I sold mine at 5000 ks . She has hers to date. Recently she a service on the dual clutch auto, it was slipping not engaging in reverse and drive was slacking and not changing in time. Mind you, she always left it too late for regular service and it stood at 80,000ks. Service on the transmission was book and oil was ordered with total cost of $2,100. $890 for some oil not olive oil $370 for filter and $810 for labour. That's very hefty. It does not drive like the original still problems with it,but Mitsubishi thinks it is like brand new,and can't solve the problem. It does not drive like before harsh and rough gear changing. End of the day, its worth shit for all that money.

@@vsonn5478 Actually the front bar looks every much like an Evo bar. I don't know if they updated it for later years, but initially (from memory and what I can find on google) the front bar wasn't black to the edge, and had a silver trim lining around the edge. The side vents are 100% not standard, the hood vents are though. The 4B11 wouldn't survive without them. Those headlights sure aren't stock either. It really is a sore spot in the Evo community, when people dress up regular Lancers to look like Evos, with the CY4A platform it became even easier to play barbie. Its not so bad on Ralliarts because they have the performance to back it up and they're largely highly respected, its all the rest of the riff raff. The vortex generator is also not stock but at least its actually doing something for the wing hes put on it.

The Evo front bar has 2 slits in it for more air into the intercooler and thus a side-mounted plate, this one does not have either. The side-vents on this Ralliart are almost definitely stickers because the Ralliarts fenders are not as wide as the Evos and would need a fender and bumper swap. I don't recommend buying SST equipped cars unless there are mechanics specialized on the SST around you. I bought a 2012 ralliart with 40k miles that never had a gearbox oil change. First thing I did was changing the oil, but problems eventually appeared anyways

I'm looking at several cars.. Higher end is A45 AMG or Volvo S60 Polestar. Mid range is Volvo V40 crosscountry T5 or Lancer Ralliart & on the low side is Ford Mondeo XR5
@theairstig9164
@theairstig9164 7 ай бұрын
XR5 is an engine that ford and Volvo shared. It’s a good one. For the Merc, unless you are doing all the work yourself it will send you broke faster than you can get rid of it. The Ralli Art will appreciate in value and all the parts will be available for ever. Also, a front LSD, upgraded turbo and a bigger front mount intercooler. Just keep the original parts for the next owner. The polestar stuff was a software upgrade of the engine tune (that you have to pay for) plus some suspension tuning. If you want polestar it’s because you want polestar
@dcptiv
@dcptiv 7 ай бұрын
@@theairstig9164 Yeah I like the Volvo T5 engine. The S60/V60 Polstar also has a bigger turbo & brakes compared to the R Design. I want a V60 Polstar but only 200 were brought into Australia.

Given the Volvo EX30 and MG4 dual motor variants will out-everything the mitsu GTO, Evo X and the WRX STI for less money and cost less for everything except tyres, it’s time to move on. As much as I'd love to own one the fuel consumption and transmission are just too big of a red flag for me to consider buying. I had too laugh at the safety overview because that was easier to understand that most EDM/dub step artists (which i personally can't stand as a genre lol😂) Again the TBTL factor was missing on this one guys so I'm wondering if you're dropping that feature from the videos. Overall good work as always guys and as per usual looking forward to the next batch of videos from yourselves 👍.

Yeah these never did it for me. Being based on the VR-X but with the Evo's running gear was kind of the sticking point - the contemporary WRX was the better car for spirited driving in pretty much every aspect, especially when it got the power bump in '09.

@@andy2906 the EJ25 is pretty much the same as the 4B11T, in that it's only as reliable as the bloke who tunes it. Stock standard you're not going to have many problems at all. The manuals in later WRX weren't chocolate like GCs were either, and it's a whole lot less temperamental than the SST in the Ralliart. Still, you don't want to be doing clutch dump full racing starts on a regular basis.

Please please don’t buy anything that has been modified unless it has been done properly & you have proper paperwork. There has to be something seriously wrong for that kind of fuel consumption! A properly sorted example should return easily 9/10l per 100kms in a heartbeat

I have an evo x but it’s second hand and it was never stated in its history but the transmission was completely ripped out and a ralliart was put in instead so I have the lower trans on the highest car🙃 I actually had to get it rebuilt too but I lost the s-sport and was told not to put it back on but I genuinely miss it and can’t tell what I should do. Driving it in only sport has lots of extra slip so it’s not as great as it used to be, besides that make sure to look fully into the car even driving it can tell you learn from my mistake I guess😕
