Basically the whole drama is reading and analyzing between the lines. Confession or admitting to their feelings indramas are always “I like someone” or “I like you” but there are other ways to confess. Love020 for an example, no “I like you” or even a proposal saying “Will you marry me”. Wwx asked “WHY someone would like someone else” so he knew his feelings. Shijie just smiled in her mind probably already knew he does have someone he liked and who the person is. The 3 grew up together since they were little so him denying it was nothing to her she lets it go because at that point she can probably read him like a book.
