Hey Guys and Girls,
As you all know, I'm a SUCKER for tight twisty roads.
You can crack on a bit, have fun but not particularly break the speed limits!
It's funny, I took the Speed Triple RS to Mortimer Road and I returned with the Tiger 1200 GT Explorer!
What a road, what a view, what a time to be alive!
Hope you enjoy it!

I enjoyed the video. It didn't sound like you ever revved it over about 6K. 6 is peppy, but at 7-9, this thing becomes a beast! Give it a try some time. Also, when you switched to "Sport" I don't think you got there. Your display in the video is still on Road with a rider modification. Since this was a year ago, you probably won't be trying other settings again, but for those test riding one of these, make sure you engage sport, which will display a tachometer icon below the gear indicator. It really transforms the suspension and engine response. It really turns into a Tiger!

Really enjoy your videos. Just to let you know, the bike has Hil Hold, really easy to use and very effective. It also has a balanced brake system. You only have to use the front brake, it automatically applies the rear brake. Obviously you can use the rear brake if you prefer, but it doesn't automatically apply the front.

I really appreciate the two videos of yours about the Tiger 1200 GT Explorer. I have a 2012 Victory Cross Country Tour and really wanted a Honda Africa Twin DCT for the last several years but, after watching numerous video reviews of both, it appears the Tiger 1200 GT Explorer has edged out the Africa Twin in my mind. Thank you so much for the reviews, Kate. 🙂

Brill video, Mortimer road (aka The Strines) is my local go to road, so much fun, if you had turned right at the polka dot house in the average speed camera section you miss out that horrible surface at the start of Mortimer road and instead you get some nice fast flowing corners. The sound of the triple is amazing and surely brings a smile to your face. Which is what it’s all about , isn’t it ? As far as price I think motorcycles are a bargain. Hope you've recovered from the labrynthitis, Kate. Great video as always, love your commentary and how you occasionally randomly sing things out loud. I have mixed opinions on the Tiger 1200, £18k is a bit rich for my tastes, too, but that said I haven't looked at the price of an equivalent GS, I expect it's quite a bit more. Just back from the Peak District myself, it's a gorgeous place to visit and has some great roads. I know and ride that road ,some of those "tight ,bridgey turns" have caught me out a few times. This is maybe because the beauty of the place distracts and then up she comes. That really steep hairpin at 13:45 is a swine coming the other way ,uphill. We often occupy the same space but at different times, you visit the Yonderman Cafe ,I visit the Thee Stags over the road. Destined never to meet .Still I enjoy your stuff immensely. Keep on doing it ,tough though it will often be.

I've had mine for 3 weeks and yesterday it was unceremoniously recovered by the RAC and taken back to Triumph. The clutch master cylinder was leaking and the clutch was starting to drag. Not great for a brand new bike. It's also my first experience with Triumph. Ugh, I just can’t get over how sexy this bike looks. Ergonomically my 6’2” tall self requires more upright style sport tourers over the more traditional sport tourer body style, but I’ve never been a fan of the (IMO) dorky looks many of these sorts of bikes have. The S1000XR is also a very sexy looking bike, but that engine configuration just doesn’t make much sense to me as a long distance tourer. This Tiger GT seems to be my perfect bike. Would be curious to see how these bikes hold up as the new models start to accumulate serious miles and initial reliability reports start to come in.

I have 59 000 kms now on the XR i bought in may 2020. All year, all weather in Belgium, when i ride, it's mostly 200 to 250 kms a day, no troubles, no worries sofar. About the engine: when you stay beneat 7000, it is actually a nice long range cruiser (7000 in 6th is around 150 kmh), Then when you get to the fun parts, you just keep it above said 7000 and it becomes a hooligan. That said, the Tiger is on the shortlist when I have to replace the XR, together with KTM and Multistrada.

@@petervautmans199 thanks for providing your experience touring with the XR Peter! I haven’t had an in-line four bike before and so I just imagine keeping an engine lower down versus high up in the rev range where it prefers would be miserable. Good to hear your bike provides that almost split personality 😊 docile when needed, but fun when you come up to some twisties!

Even more fun ( ?) is to try Mortimer road from the opposite direction as it is mainly uphill. I first rode it on my Triumph Street Cup and heart was in mouth on a couple of times Also did you notice that on most of the hairpins water ran across the road right on the apex? Just to add to the laughs.....

Beautiful area Kate, and some great looking roads... What were all the tents along the side of the road at 10:24 of the video? Looked too close together for a campground... I do hope you're doing better.

I have just returned to two wheeled riding at 68. I rode a Lambretta and a Vespa as a youngster but that was 50 years ago. I’ve dived in at the deep end with a Norton Commando 961 Sport and as you’d expect, it feels like being a learner rider all over again {and of course it is). However, on the upside I live just round the corner from Mortimer Road and wondered what you thought of it as a road to develop my riding skills on?

Ermm, it's quite a lairy road but as long as you treat it with respect and ride with in your limits I don't see why you shouldn't ride it 😊

I have 850 tiger and disappointed that it produces more engine noise and heat than torque. at city speeds it absolutely sucks. I better had kept parallel twin 650 interceptor.

Hi Kate, do you think the GT Explorer would be improved with a non T-Plane crank (like the Speed Triples)? I understand the T-Plane crank is a compromise favouring off-road - which the GT is less likely to be used on.
@UsernameKate

Maybe! I mean I don't personally mind the tplane crank to be fair but I think some people find it vibey.

On the Tiger 900 you dont have to wait for the screen to "load" to start the bike, I guess its the same on the 1200 🤔
@UsernameKate
@UsernameKate Жыл бұрын
Yea I know, it will fire up with a blank screen. Used to have to do it on my 765rs so I didn't get left behind haha. I need to highlight it though because for all that money, you'd expect it to be a quick at loading up as it's rivals.

Sorry Kate. I know it is important for you to brave big bikes but if you avoid a certain route choice because “your legs are too short” you basically confess to being limited by the bikes height. What about situations one can’t predict in advance? Such instances could still occur on a route you consider to be safer. It’s of course still your choice to incorporate such risks but also your responsibility then, also towards other people. Don’t get me wrong. I am not trying to keep you from any fun but just want to point out the reasonable middle ground. Riding motorcycles must also always be about weighing the risks against the joys.
