In this episode I upgraded my vocal Pedalboard with a Surfy Industries Surfy Bear Compact, spring reverb unit and I show all the tweaks and tips to use guitar pedals live on vocals.
In a Pedaltrain Nano + I use a JHS Colourbox, an Ibanez Ad Mini analog delay and the brand new Surfy Industries SurfyBear Compact.
I rarely bring a sound engineer with me to the shows, só this helps me to get the tone I want on my vocals. I basically use the same approach on my vocals I use on guitar tone.
If you buy from this links I get a small commission from Amazon.

While I agree there's a lot of talking, there's ways you can edit so it stays interesting for everyone. I usually find opening with a sound demo in a mix, then going back and forth between talking and sound demos to be the most engaging. I'm definitely interested in what you have to say, and I like hearing the reasoning behind the choices, but having a short sound clip between paragraphs really helps.

The dynamic microphones that I use are a Pyle PDMIC59 (SM58S style) & PDMIC78 (SM57 style). That said, each comes with an XLR to 1/4 TS 15 foot microphone cable. End of the day, a $ 25-30 Klon(e) pedal is basically all you need when you have a Reverb built-into the combo amp or amp head. The guitar amp that I use is a also a solid state 1x8 open back combo, it's the Pyle (PVAMP60 Reverb) that has a built-in Reverb effect consisting of 2 Reverb control knobs for length & depth. The Klon is a transparent OD, has a tone control thru the treble knob to EQ and a volume & gain control knob. The Klon pedal can be used as a clean boost with a guitar and so it functions that way with a microphone. No microphone impedance match transformer necessary with these Pyle products. The Pyle microphones are built to have an output impedance spec of 600 Ohms, so it falls into the range of 50-600 Ohms category for a professional grade microphone. Plenty of volume with the Pyle amps 60W max output. Really just a solid & modest low cost PA system. These mics are good with any guitar amp combo, solid state or tube. Also a 5-6W pedal amp with passive cab of your preference is a nice little configuration to practice your vocals with.

Hi Budda, great video as always! I wonder how can I achieve this setup without buying the JHS Colour Box, it's a nice tool but quite expensive, specially if I only use it as a vocal live tool. Would a regular DI passive box work similarly combined with a BOSS GE7 and a boost (plus delay and reverb, of course 🤘😎)? Thanks man!

Killer video Budda! Very insightful into how to set up a solid vocal rig. Did you figure out if you get feedback using eq of the colourbox? Curious to know if you had an issues. I've seen vids of live sound engineers where they make a vocal pedalboard with 7 band eq and they show how to find the frequencies that feedback. In that video, he just turned down those specific frequencies. If you could let us know if you had issues with feedback using this rig live, that'd be awesome. Thanks Budda!

You could use an Mic impedance transformer (like shure A85F) in front of the Colorbox, then you wouldn't have to worry slamming and distorting your effects. Its a cheap tool, but essential (for me) using guitar effects with vocals.

You mentioned that when you use this setup playing live that you have the pedals going into a Triton DI. Is there a specific reason for that? Or would that be normal to use in a live performance? Also is a preamp required for a setup like this or could you skip the JHS and go straight into the Ibanez analog delay pedal?

Hello Budda, I have a big question, I have been struggling trying to conect my microphone to pedals that are not for microphone, i mean, guitar pedals, they just don´t do anything to my sound or just saturate, i have search the colour box of jhs and unfortunatly, is very expensive for me, so please, could you tell us what kind of pedal or mechanism, we need without an specific brand, to use the instrument pedals on our microhones? because i have seen several videos trying to answer this question an none of them really help, they just show their pedal configuration but don´t explain how they make it work. Thanks Budda, I love your channel

It will work better with a high impedance mic, like the green bullet for example. But I think you can use any mic (except condenser mics) with guitar pedals as long as you have a cake making it go from xlr to a guitar Jack.
