The truth is, your dad never even made it to the grocery store. Applying the same equation, but now with y as the time left to get to the grocery store, we can see that as x gets larger, our y approaches 0. Assuming that the store can be any distance x from home, we can try to estimate the time it will take to arrive by finding integral of 3/x from 0 to infinity. With a bit of calculus, we can find out that the integral will diverge to infinity, and therefore, the time your dad takes to get to the store diverges to infinity.

Wow, I feel really bad for all those people who lost their father when he went for milk. Mine personally went for cigarettes so I guess the question I have in relation to the above math is if my case is similar and if it is what does that mean for the infinity, I have heard some infinities are larger than others and I am starting to get really worried as I approach 30 if my dad might have passed by the grocery store that had milk and instead gone to a further location, does anyone know if this is a certainty? Math is amazing and I love how after all these years I am starting to realize I can answer this question that haunted my younger self.
@riseofnationsdaily9957 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think it's also infinity since the cigarette store is so far away from home that by the time your dad gets close to your house, the cigars are already expired and therefore he goes back to buy cigars and this continuously repeats.

Hey guys, mathematics major here. Just wanted to let you know that although Dapz's math does seem to be a tad bit questionable in certain areas, you can rest assured that he is in fact 100 % correct. Your dad is never coming back. Also, I did a few of my own calculations and I was able to estimate that the probability that he ever went to the grocery store in the first place is close to none as you can see below: Average Retail Price Of Milk In The U.S. = $3.69 (Nice!) Amount Of "Milk" Money (In USD) That Your Dad Had On Him When He Left For The Store: $3.00 Therefore, 3.00 dollars - 3.69 dollars -------------------- - 0.69 cents - 0.69 cents =/= $3.00 In conclusion, based on the fact that your dad didn't even have enough money to buy milk in the first place, we can conclude that he was in fact using math to elude to the fact that he went to your mom's friend Tracey's house. Edit: Grammer misstakez,

Professor, I think you forgot a variable. If we accept that my dads life span as an adult male will not exceed 100 years, when plugged into the equation we can see that, at least within the confines of this equation, my dad is already dead, and has been for theoretically infinite years. Now, because infinite stretches forward and backward infinitely, this also presents the genuine possibility that my dad has been mathematically dead forever, and was potentially never alive. This is the advanced mathematical principle known as "imaginary fathers."

Best use of limits I have ever seen. Forget learning physics, learning how the world works and everything, you should just drop it and calculate the time it takes for your dad to come home. I think at a certain point his nose would be almost touching the window but it would never touch.
