A big benefit of using a big 4k TV as a monitor is, at 100% resolution you have the equivalent of four 1080P monitors. If you scale it up to 150%, you lose 25% of your 4K screen real estate compared to 100% scaling. To keep all of your screen real estate, you have to go bigger. 55" or 60" is the sweet spot IMHO. I understand the desire to go with a 43" like you did, because a 55" just SEEMS too big, but its not. If you imagine four 1080P monitors arranged in a four-monitor array, it should be about 55" or 60". Also, with a 55" 4K TV, the 100% resolution doesn't make the text too small like it does on a 43" television so you don't have to scale it. So if you're going to use a 4K television as a monitor, I recommend getting at least 50", but 55" or 60" is better. I have a 55" Samsung as my main monitor on my Linux desktop machine, and I use a 50" TCL as the main monitor for my Macbook Pro laptop, because I just so happened to already have it. I am going to have to spend two months working in Houston this spring, and am not taking my desktop or big televisions with me, so I am buying a 55" or 60" TCL to use a monitor with my two M2 Macbook Pros (one at a time), while I am there. When the two months are over I'll probably give the TCL away to someone before coming home. My sister lives in Houston so I'll probably give the TCL to one of her college aged kids. By the way I am a software architect / computer hacker, I use linux 75% of the time, MacOS 20% of the time and Windows about 5% of the time. I don't use my computers to play games AT ALL and am plenty happy with 60Hz native refresh rate, though I wouldn't kick 120Hz out of bed; so take my advice for what it cost ya'.

I've been using 4k TVs for many years now. 4k monitors are ridiculously priced and modern TVs have as high response times as mid range monitors. Just today I bought the 55" TCL to replace my aging 50" Vizio P series as it's local dimming zones were starting to die. That TV cost me over $700 and this was far cheaper and supports 4:4:4 chroma. The only drawback to the TCL is no 120hz period where the Vizio supported 120hz at 1440 and below. Kinda sucks for gaming but 60hz is more than playable as long as there's no input lag. Just don't expect to be doing super competitive FPSs where high framerates are needed.

Hey, what do you mean "120hz period"?? And why is it a drawback? Also, can you use it at 4K/120hz?
@zodwraith5745
@zodwraith5745 2 жыл бұрын
@@00_187 TV makers also happen to be monitor makers. No one wants to put display port or HDMI 2.1 on TVs because they can charge twice as much for half the size if it's a "monitor" instead of a TV. While I prefer 120hz over 60hz I prefer 55" over 28" every day of the week. Especially if it saves me a grand over exorbitant monitor prices.

@zodwraith5745
@zodwraith5745 2 жыл бұрын
@@00_187 No It's a placeholder. The Vizio P series did but it's getting old and some of the local dimming zones are failing. What the Vizio taught me was I care about 4k far more than 120hz though. Especially for web use. I just grabbed the TCL cause it's dirt cheap and I'm waiting for a decent HDMI 2.1 TV. Then this display will go in the kids room for console use.

I just got a TCL 43S431 and connected it to my laptop. Windows claimed it had a max resolution of 1920 x 1080. I connected & disconnected it a few times, and eventually Windows (10) popped up a notice that the external display had a max res of 3840x2550 or whatever, but that currently-running applications would need to be restarted. I shut down all apps and started them again, with no effect. Then I turned the computer off, and it said it was updating Windows, for a long time. I turned it off when it was done, then turned it on. It went back to installing updates. Eventually the login appeared, but the keyboard wouldn't work anymore. I turned it off and on again. It installed more updates again. Then the keyboard worked, I logged in, and now Windows could use the TCL at its full resolution.

My computer is a pretty high-spec'd Dell 7540, using a WD19 docking station... I'd researched this months ago, and supposedly the DisplayPort to HDMI cable I specifically purchased for this was to provide the most bandwidth. Going to try a simple HDMI connection next. Thanks! This is the biggest reason to opt for a 4k tv vs 1440p monitor. You need powerful hardware to game at 4k (just drop to 1440 or 1080) but web use and going through tables is a godsend on the eyes.

I have a few questions no one seems to be covering. Is there an advantage to having multiple monitors rather than one big one for Windows 10? Is it easy to divide the screen into sections and have different apps in different sections of the screen maximized? (Sometimes you also want to know how something will look on a standard screen.) What about screen sharing? Can you share only one portion of the screen or do you have to share the whole screen? The advantage of multiple monitors is that you can work on one screen and then move items into the shared screen only when needed. But if you are showing the whole screen you can't hide your work area. What about burn-in because of a static background picture? Thanks!
@KnowledgeSharingTech
@KnowledgeSharingTech 3 жыл бұрын
I personally like to have one large monitor. Some large monitors, especially the Ultrawide ones, come with software to help you divide the screen but I only use Windows shortcuts to do it. Like, if you press the Windows key + left arrow, the active App window snaps to the left and takes half the screen and the other windows are on the right so if you click one of them, it will take the other half of the screen. At the end of the day, it is a matter of personal taste. For screen sharing, it depends on the software you are using to share your screen, most of them can share only a Window (App) if you like but I don't know any that can share half a screen.
