To really understand how my No Prep car is running, I thought it would be a good idea to watch how it performs in slow motion. Watching the car launch and travel down the track frame by frame can really help pinpoint any problems or misdirections... Not to mention it looks really cool!

Slo Mo video is awesome and a great tool for seeing what is going with the cars. I can't believe that is an aluminum chassis, alot of flexing and twist. I used to work on aircraft and makes me wonder what alloy their cutting that chassis from. Hard to think that's 7075-T6. Short, sharp shocks through that chassis would eventually cause microfracturing. Possibilly causing the chassis to twist even more. I know we're talking a model car here but I was surprised at the amount of stress through twist that chassis exhibited front and back, brutal. Would be interesting to see a LCG plastic and the.Xtreme composite chassis videoed like this. This video was perfect timing for me, I had just looked at this chassis and an aluminum suspension "kit" on Amazon. What I had also noticed on YT videos of NoPrep was how many of the cars seem to launch good and track straight but still end up on their lid going end over end or some that seem to just suddenly barrel roll. In slow motion video I have notice a lot of deformation and flex especially just in front of the rear fender well and behind the wheel in the whole quarter panel. Wondering if that body flutter is causing drag and instability as the car picks up speed going down the track. Its lexan and it's going to build up air under it. Back half of the body flapping in the wind has got to be slowing the car down a little and even with the back cut out there's still air moving through the inside trying to pick the car up, that little bit of vibration might be enough to cause the car to become unstable and flip. So bracing the body seems like a really good idea. I am a noob to this, this video could not have come along at a better time for me. Thankyou!
@FullThrottleRC
@FullThrottleRC 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, glad the video could help. I definitely agree with you on the body and air getting under it. That's definitely why you see cars taking flight down track. There are a couple designs for 3d prints that add rigidity to the body as well as add more surface area to the bottom of the car so less air can get inside. Awesome insight and thoughts you provided! Thanks again!

The stiffer spring steepens the load change curve and will cause your tire to snap faster, causing loss of traction if spring rate is an isolated variable. It also changes the way in which your car unloads on take off with respect to the front end. It essentially changes the lever point.
@FullThrottleRC

Yes, it also depends on the front as well. I've completely redone the suspension on this car since this video and plan on doing another detailed video on suspension soon.

You do not want rear squat you need to run a chassis stiffener and it's important to build a tunable chassis stiffener and it needs to mount on the forward side of the upper shock mount and run at least to the middle of the car the more flex or twist you have in your chassis the the less hit on the rear tires

Front end shake is "Torque Rattle" the torque is twisting the chassis, first to one side, then it twists back to the other side. Undo the Shock Adjusters. Just a little compression. if you can get the rear to start squatting, go to the softer springs. Try to stiffen the front of the chassis to cut down/eliminate the Torque Rattle going on.

The front 'twitch' is the whole chassis at war with the motor.. the 'gyro' of motor wants to turn the chassis inside out the chassis fights back the gyro also loads one wheel and forces it to spring back which loads the other.. like a circle track car going loose or tight.

I dont know the rules of the rc drags, but have you ever tried experimenting with adding weights to strategic point on the chassis to try to work through your problems i.e. the front end lifting and the flexing in chassis before shocks try to compress? Heavier can be faster if the weights are applied right. Just an idea. God bless.
@FullThrottleRC
@FullThrottleRC 3 жыл бұрын
Weight placement is a huge part in making the car go down the track. When I first built the car I tried adding weight further up front and it would just spin out every time. My car seems to like the majority of the weight in the rear. I don't remember exactly what the minimum weight is, but any weight I need to add would probably go towards the front

I've had a few comments about building one before. I'd be interested in trying it if I could find the right platform. My biggest thing is keeping it "scale". If there is a way to to make the side wall or you tire softer. Or an actual tire that already has a softer side wall you might be able to get a blue more traction because the soft side wall will simulate the low tire pressure that people use on slicks in actual drag racing. Having the squishy or soft side wall will make the side wall compress on the launch and put more surface area of tire onto the ground
@FullThrottleRC

It depends where you run. Technically the cars are basically the same, but some tracks might have a class for them called street eliminator, but it's not no prep since the surface is prepped. I think Pro-line needs to improve the body post, I like the plastic but I noticed mine were to soft as I noticed that right away when I got them. It causes the body to flop around at the high speeds with all the air hitting the body. But that's a Pro-line issue as we shouldn't be having to fix something that supposed to be fixed by engineers at Pro-line. @@FullThrottleRC im pretty sure the shocks won't squat untill you take out the twist. All the energy that would go to the shocks and squat is being absorbed by suspension twist. If we think about Instant Center and roll center, you really want the shock rebound soft enouph to absorb the initial launch while still applying weight over the wheels. The more squat means less hit to the tires. But, when you introduce squat you change camber. Since your front end is coming off the ground, we see putting to much traction on the rear end, right? There's a trade off. To much squat and the tires unload to quick and spin when the chasis settles, to little squat and your riding a willie down the track. But you really need to ditch the twist or no mater what you come up with, it won't help. You will end up over compensating elsewhere.

You dont want compression, you want rear lift, run a sway bar and a softer spring if anything. Rear lift confirms the tires are planting, compression means the tires are trying to lift off the surface.

The compression I'm looking for is the weight transfer from the front to the rear. The suspension should compress as more of the weight is in the back tires, allowing them to gain more traction

@@FullThrottleRCweight transfer will still happen even if the rear lifts. You want the rear of the car to lift in order to dig in the ground and bite.
