2 жыл бұрынDiscussion of using superglue to safely open up stubborn watch casebacks. It’s especially useful for faceted super compressor type backs that are not easy to grip. The most important element is that it saves you from leaving any permanent marks on the steel.

It might also be a good situation for 3d printing a custom caseback tool. Being plastic, the printed tool would fail before damaging the metal caseback. It would also have a lot of engaged material

You can actually buy old Piquerez compressor shaped caseback wrenches on eBay - they came in various sizes. I think that’s how they were serviced in the ‘70s/‘80s. I only have 2 or so watches like that, so the glue method is fine for me. I do wonder if a 3D printed design would have enough strength to grip the case well. There really isn’t that much metal to grab.

@@InterestingWatches well, back in the day I used a 3d printed tool to open a Panerai caseback, but those are a bit beefier certainly. Although each individual tooth is pretty shallow, there are many teeth so it may work better than expected? or it may fail haha
