I put this splitter together and test it out on some Australian hardwood.

Good one JD. I have the 26 ton model which has done a great job for a few winters now.

Great video. Please do a teardown, I'd like to see how it works. (So the wood splitter has been converted from smelly 4-stoke to clean electric, now you need to convert the smelly wood heater to electric heat pump🙂 🙂)

hmmm the ram is not retracting automatically...

It does do it, but I had it on a little slope to help with the splitting.

Does it work better if you put the piece of wood against the wedge instead of the ram? I see in the manufacturer videos they always place it against the wedge so the ram doesnt lose any momentum moving the wood.

Doesn't seem to matter, both ways work. The pieces that jamb are either too large or have a tough part, like a branch V. Things usually split by the third ram attempt.

great video. I just got the 12 ton about 2 months ago. I almost tipped it over building it. You had some help. I used some wD40 on the top plate but now it the ram arm sticks out after it splits. Any suggestions to help stop this?

Thinking of buying one of these machines. The only issue is it can’t be set to vertically split. So those really big lumps of wood would need to be cut up or split with a hammer and wedges. Also the stand looks a bit flimsy.

I wouldn't say the stand is flimsy. Build quality is fine. It is a heavy machine to lift and the legs provide adequate support

yeah i have the 34 ton version , it went really good to start with , then the base plate the motor was mounted on fell to pieces , so i rebuilt that a lot stronger , but i made a fatal mistake , as i didnt understand exactly how some of the bits worked , the manual that came with it was a piece of shit , anyway the fatal mistake was tightening the fan belts to much when after i repaired it , i didnt realize the belts needed to be not tight and not loose , this is a sort of safety clutch , as the rack belts the piece of wood through the axe , as it reaches the end it allows the belts to slip on the flywheels , otherwise ya do what i did , smashed the pinion and bent the engaging bit , it just went through anything like that , anyway the guys at Forestwest were great they sent me new parts at no cost and i finally repaired it not long ago , i have split about 30 ton since and it is working great , it is not as powerful as my 30 ton hydraulic splitter , but it is still way faster and way better , the hydraulic splitter is to slow , i wanna split wood , not stand around waiting for the splitter to be ready for me , it has split anything i want to split , its a good machine , well worth the money

I like the speed it splits at. Nice that the company helped you out too. Thanks for the comment.

Why doesn't the ram retract? Seems to interrupt workflow and they say its supposed to retract....

When used on flat ground it does retract, I was working on a slight slope.

@@jdsolarandev2591 Good to know. Thanks for the reply. Do you recommend this over any others? We are looking at purchasing this for my parents.

I did the review because the product seemed okay but when you're looking to buy you want a real world opinion. Delivery was reasonable to the local transport company depot, the quality seems fine and it does what it's meant to without requiring petrol, so while I haven't used others, this one ticks the boxes.
