I know, I love the guys at Eastonmade for that reason. I've been in the market for a processor for a while now and every time I've talked with other manufacturers to get a quote they have to down play and point out what's wrong with their competitors, especially Cord King, they would say things like "those guys at Eastonmade are a joke, they think they have a comparable machine to ours but we have been in the business for over 40 years". I can't stand when a person or company has too knock someone else down to make themselves look good, if you really are better you shouldn't have to brag or put others down.

As I understand (I am in Australia) they have a waiting list to get a splitter. So they have enough customers that they don't need the hard sell. If the customers can be happy the customers become advocates and become the sales force.

Well Drew I thought I had seen it all in my 60 years. Never to my memory had I seen one brand of any product when doing a comparison mention the brand name let alone give it a positive review. You also didn't try to convince someone of getting your brand but let folks make up their own mind to let them get what they want. Hats off to you bro. Respect to you.

Thank you for the fair and honest review. I started my firewood business with an ancient Wolf. The Wolf worked great but was a pain hauling it to the tree. The next splitter I bought was a cheap Chinese genetic, it was in the shop for repairs every couple of months and I replaced it with a Super Split HD after 2 years. Then 2 years later, I added a Supersplit SE. The HD struggles with Pecan and twisted Oak, but the SE does fine. The very large rounds go thru the Wolf and then into the Supersplits. I do 50 to 60 cords per year. If I could back in time, I would have gone to your product.

I own a super split and a 27 ton troy bilt. They both have there place. I get in a rhythm with the super split and can split a honest cord into my dump truck in less than 2 hrs. It's at least 35 yrs old and has only needed oil/grease and 1 $10 bearing that took 3 min to change. I bought it from a family friend tree guy that replaced it with a new one. He put thousands of cords thru it. I went with him to the factory to pick up his new one, great people as was mentioned in the vid. The reason why I have a hydraulic splitter is only for logs way to heavy to pick up. I put it vertically and roll the logs onto it. They both have their place, they are both reliable, but my hydro takes over 2x as long to produce a cord with the same wood. With all that being said, if I had neither and was in the market for one, especially new, I'd probably be going for a hydro with a removable 4 way wedge and a log lift. I split whatever I get, if I could be selective and not have to take on monster forked oaks and giant pieces, I'd probably go super split. So it comes down to what the application is. I will add if you are paying someone to run it, the hydros are more forgiving and almost foolproof. Not that the super split is hard to run, but I tend to plan out the easiest way thru a piece instead of any which way. Anyone I've talked to that knows about super splits swear by them. I always wish I had a conveyor running the super split, just because the shear amount of split pieces that are coming off of it I then throw. The hydro it's no big deal throwing one piece at a time every 10 seconds. Super split keeps 2 people busy and producing(reminds me of a deli slicer, a piece every 3 seconds), the hydro someone is always waiting. I hope this helps someone who is on the fence.

A trick I found with the kinetic machine is after you have made one split you can put the wood back together and split it again and you will get 4 bits of wood. Saves 2 extra cuts providing the wedge is long enough

Love your showdown on these machines. I have a kinetic splitter and hydraulic splitters weren't an option for me based on their speed. Also when I was in the market 6 years ago, there wasn't many hydraulic splitters with 4 way or 6 way wedges that were in a good budget range. So I was comparing a kinetic splitter to a single wedge component. Great work and appreciate your love for another brand machine. Nice work buddy 👏

I had a super split and it worked really good. Very fast but for knotty wood we switched over to our wallenstine. But once we bought the 12 22 we sold the 2 smaller splitters which the people bought and use regularly and have good luck with them. When we upped the production we had to go to the Eastonmade and saved time and money. The time factor alone was worth it.

This is the first splitter video I have ever watched. Learned about kinetic splitters a whole 30 minutes ago. I used an ancient and slow hydraulic single edge splitter to do a cord of wood several years ago. It was s slow it almost made me sloppy, if that makes sense. I will take a few trees down out back, drag them out with a friend, and split them next year. Not looking forward to 50 hours of research for a splitter but also don't want to just buy whatever they have at Home Depot. I can only hope other vendor videos are as fair as this one, but it sounds like this guy was surprisingly honest and fair according to other commenters.

Honestly, I wish I would have seen this video 2 years ago when I first got into fire wood. I bought a Super Split HD and yes it's been great. Splits just about everything I've put through it, but...when it hit's a knot all hell breaks loose! Either the rack gets stuck in the wood and all you hear is grinding or you spend 10, 15 even 20 minutes trying to free it. The rail needs constant attention with cleaning it, constant greasing the bearings and removing the housing to grease 2 more bearings. It's very fast but at the end of the day your video proves even in the short term it makes more wood per hour. I just ordered a Ultra and keeping the SS for my bundle wood.

Kiddos for giving Super Splitter lots of respect and being up front about cost. Very informative video. Very helpful video. Two ideas for future videos. 1. Similar comparison using some larger splitter and a 4" cylinder then switching it to a 5" cylinder (I understand the difficulty of the additional length on a 5" of the same stroke) and 2. A similar comparison using various types of pumps: a. Gear pump achieving maximum psi, b. Faster Gear pump achieving less psi but more speed c. 2 stage gear pump achieving both speed and psi d. Pressure and torque compensated piston pump. Just a thought.

If you ran the Kinetic at full capacity, it would be a fair trial. using two Rams to split the halves and two quarters instead of one takes it one third longer. you split a piece in half and then used two more times to split it into quarters instead of stacking them on top of each other and splitting making four pieces with that second punch. not a fair trial at all plus you're doing a lot smaller pieces of wood with the kinetic much more even and you're taking time to throw them instead of pushing him off and just letting them fall on the ground like you did with the hydraulic. so on two counts is not a fair comparison.
@jakebredthauer5100

Someone should design a kinetic for just the easier wood, leaving the more difficult pieces for the hydraulic. The kinetic should have a taller knife and taller pusher and be adaptable to four-way splitting. There are so many companies doing kinetics that someone should step out with this specialized kinetic. I think it is more practical to have a variety of splitters for the variety of wood, instead of expecting one machine to do everything. There are some things a processor can do and some that it cannot do. The Amish, Jerry, build the Dyna processor.

Andrew I like the way you run your business. So many companies down play there competition, you explain it. To me it’s apples and oranges. If cycle time is what you want, get the tried and true machine. If you want the best hydraulic log splitter with what I have seen on You Tube A + Service it’s Eastonmade. I watch a channel on You Tube called Ohio Wood Burner. Joe is very happy with your company. He recently had an issue with his engine which he trouble shouted and you salved by sending him the parts he needed, that’s great business! I like your splitters a lot but they are a bit much for me, I only need about 4 cord a year. I do own a super split that replaced a store bought hydraulic. I run a four way wedge on both splitters and the super split can run a four way with straight grain wood. Biggest down side to the super split is no power return. I have gotten the push plate stuck several times. You were generous with the super split management and I agree they are great. Really like how you recommended staying away from the knock offs. There have been several that came to market and failed terribly. I know people with 500 plus cords through a super split and no problems at all. I probably have 50 through mine now with no trouble. All things considered if I was getting “free” tree service wood or splitting big chubby’s for a boiler or possibly when I get older and need less physical work I would go with your splitter. For me running select wood in a wood stove the super split works well.

G'day Andrew, I've never seen a kinetic splitter down here I'm not sure they would suite our woods, with the hydraulic manual in feed you can sense the pressure building as the wood stops the ram and you know when the bang is about to happen whereas something flying in and out at speed seems a bit more scary than normal😫⛑.

Hey Andrew if you put a single wedge on your splitter with one extra wedge on the far side of the wedge pointing away from you would that be easier to handle the big stuff like your axis does working from one side of the log Away from you and so the big piece stays with you on your side ?? Cheers from Ottawa Canada

How come you don't put a log cradle on the ultra like you have on the 12-22? I personally would like to have that if I bought an ultra, since it lowers risk of injury and allows your helper to get another log quicker. Just a thought. Awesome video, keep up the good work!

I can’t remember I may have asked this before but does the 12-22 come standard with the 4 and 6 or one or the other. I did the basic comparison between the 9-16 and 12-22 and I now think I’d go with the 12-22 for roughly 500 more I only need to add the other wedge. I do my wood by my self so the auto cycle is pretty cool option but to just get it included makes a lot more sense than have it be extra.

@@EastonmadeWoodSplitters thanks. When the time comes and I think it will in the near future I’ll give ya a ring. The six and four way are the options I’d go with. I working on getting the details down so I know what I’m working with but I’m aiming to do bundle wood sales at 2 or 3 local businesses so if it takes of I may need to get this to churn out the wood. I don’t see many local options for convenience firewood bundles other than the name brand ones so I think if I get my foot in the door I could do ok or at least enough to pay for the equipment and log deliveries. Who knows!

I've used (quite a lot) my friend's 34 ton hydraulic splitter, and I own a small kinetic splitter. I do not cut firewood professionally if I did, I would be sure to have a large hydraulic splitter similar to the 34 ton like my buddy has. I will have to say I was watching a video of a guy splitting wood with a hydraulic splitter, he made a sideways comment about a kinetic, less than 10 minutes later a hydraulic hose busted and he took a oil bath. Karama?

There is another video that compares the super split to the timber wolf and the super split beats it out. One thing I haven’t seen is a comparison while the operator is wearing a heart monitor. It would be good to have some metric on how much more work one is over the other for the operator. One last thing. I own a super split and have to say I find the hydraulic would be a safer machine for your average operator.

Your comment about a homeowner with a "normal" bank account is spot on. Also, the kinetic is a $1,500 machine versus $15K+ for the Eastman. That's like comparing a Honda 90 cc with a Kawasaki 1300.

It would have been nice to see the ultra with just a single knife wedge for a more apples to apples splitting comparison. Using a 6 way or 4 way wedge against a single wedge isn't a very fair representation of overall splitting performance. I agree with your assessment on the kinetic splitter, there are many moving and mechanical parts that will wear out over time. The simplicity of a single hydraulic ram and control valve can't be overstated.
@EastonmadeWoodSplitters
@EastonmadeWoodSplitters 3 жыл бұрын
Thats kind of the point to it though. I think with the single the ultra would have been slower

I agree and that was my thought at first, would have been nice to see the single wedge on the ultra. Then I considered that he ran both machines in there stock form that's what they come standard with.. the single wedge is an option not standard equipment. But it definitely would have been a closer comparison
@stainer856
@stainer856 3 жыл бұрын
I think it's a fair comparison. The Ultra can run a 4-way and comes standard with it so that's the point. It's not that it has a faster cycle time than the kinetic, it's that it has a very fast cycle time for a hydraulic and it's still powerful enough to run a better wedge. Anything more than a single wedge on the kinetic and it probably won't split much bigger than an 8" round, if it could at all. The Ultra is fast for a hydraulic machine but it has enough power to run a better wedge, hence better overall performance than the kinetic. The point is not to handicap his machines to only be as good as the kinetic, it's to show splitting the same wood which splits in less time.

How's the strength comparison between say a 22 ton hydro, and a kinetic that says it's comparable to 22 tons? I heard they're weaker, and that's my only qualm. I'd rather get an electric kinetic because i hate loud noise, but overall I'm on the fence.

My super split came with a robin (subaru) 6hp gas, I set it up with a 2hp 220V motor because I like the quiet and I was using my front end loader to get rounds up to it and I would go through a FEL in about 10 minutes and got tired of stopping and starting the gas motor every 15 minutes. The gas motor has more power but most wood is no problem with the electric.

I would say when it comes to hydraulic splitters there is nothing that's better than the Eastonmade. I am actually considering buying an electric kinetic and the first thing I will do to it is mod it as Aussie hardwoods are insanely tough. Electric appeals to me as it's essentially silent with no engine noise or hydraulic pump noise for electric power hydraulic. Ultimately I'd like to build or convert to a vertical kinetic like the Russian Tyapa has on his youtube channel. The biggest issue with kinetic splitters is that you have to keep fetching the logs back for successive splits.
