Thanks so much for explaining this. This is the best tutorial online for using external zones on the RD2000.

Thanks man, this is great. I've been using MainStage in church for a couple of years, and the church has just bought an RD2000 - this is going to help me get the best out of both the keyboard and the software to be really easy for me to use, and sound awesome for the church as well. Bless you dude! :)

Could you please do another quick video showing how to assign other hardware controls to software functions and effects, sidechaining, and some of the other stuff the keyboard does in terms of 'talking to' the computer and vice versa? Cheers. :)

Thank you for this vid and especially for discussing the ninth fader which a lot of you tube vids ignore. What would be the downside of assigning that ninth fader to the master out of the MainStage mixer?

Hi Ben. I just purchased a RD2000 and MainStage 3. I have never used VSTs before but excited at the possibilities.Thanks for your great videos. Specifically could you do a demo to explain how to set up the Rd2000 with MainStage Tone wheel organ and how to map and assign controllers to drawbars and also how to map and assign Leslie Rotary speaker control to a footswitch FC1 on the RD and also using one of the mod wheels. I have the RD playing the tone wheel organ sounds but having trouble mapping sliders to drawbars and Rotary speed control to FC1 and mod wheel. Thanks

Hi Ben, thank you for this video. I am able to get everything working as you demonstrate except for one thing. As a newbie to MainStage, I only have Alchemy. Your example uses Ominsphere where you easily choose a midi channel to assign the patch sound to. I can't find a midi assign within Alchemy software. Result being, I'm not able to turn individual MS zones on the RD-2000 off without all MS zones or sounds turning off. Please inform where to go within Alchemy or do I need to get Ominsphere?

Ben Allen and readers: September 29, 2017 How did you learn how to use the RD-2000 and also Mainstage 3? What's the best way you recommend learning and becoming familiar with all of the parameters of each? Are there video tutorials that start from day one and progressively increase one's knowledge? Is anything available like that which instructs in a systematic manner? Thanks.

PLEAE HELP!!! I just got my RD-2000. I updated my firmware from 1.02 to 1.03, downloaded and installed the roland driver for the mac, set the USB MIDI driver in system settings to "Vendor" then followed this video to a T. However, there is one thing I can't find in the instruments that comes with MainStage. Where can you select the MIDI channel in the MainStage included instruments? When I play, the MIDI info goes across all channels but I hear nothing. I am sure it is because I haven't told Mainstages built in instruments what MIDI channel to use. I have no idea where to do this.

Jeroen Verwijs I personally have Focal CMS 65s, but those have been discounted and soon will not be available anymore. The Focal Shape series would be the next closest thing. For playing live, I use QSC K12s.

Hi Ben, Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and preparing this awesome tutorial! I recently purchased an RD 2000 and MainStage. I followed your video very carefully but must have not configured something correctly. Even with only one green button on, and it doesn't matter which one, all 6 zones/instruments are playing. I have made sure that Zone 3 through 8 RD2000 sliders are controlling the MainStage sliders which are set to the corresponding channels. Also, I have mapped the template sliders to the channel strip sliders. I am only using sounds from MainStage. The one thing I may have done differently is selecting instruments using the Setting Row (located directly under the Expression row) rather than the Input Row. I saw another video use that row to assign instruments and might have done it that way as well. I would be very grateful to have your input so I can effectively Mute the Zones. Please let me know if you would rather talk to trouble shoot this issue. I Look forward to hearing from you! Blessings, Mitch

Hi Mitch.. just read your comment.. did you get the solution already.. i use RD2000 as well. Welcome to help and solve your issue in case not solve yet.. Hi Ben, btw your video is quite informative.. good job.. i’m just wondering how to assign any knobs and fader to control any filters and effect inside Mainstage or VST. In case you still remember how to do it eventhough you are not longer use RD2000.. appreciate your feedback..

@@richieringga Hi Richie, I'm really grateful for your feeling to help as I still don't have a solution. My question is really about MainStage. So far, I have been unable to figure out how to assign a MainStage instrument to a specific MIDI channel or assign a channel strip to a specific MIDI channel when using resident MainStage instruments. When I load instruments from Kontakt/Komplete there is an option to do this. My goal is to have MainStage instruments play on different MIDI channels so I can turn them on and off with the Mute Buttons above the sliders on the RD 2000. I can do this with the instruments from Kontakt. There must be some way to do this when using MainStage instruments. If you'd rather email you can get me at: mitch@seeingwithheart.com or let me know if you'd just like to talk. I really appreciate your input! Mitch

It's like Logic but for live performance, specifically keys... on a basic level, you can use it to play VSTs and software synths/pianos, and control it with a MIDI keyboard.

Why would you use MainStage with the RD2000? Aren’t there enough beautiful sounds and effects/possibilities in the RD2000? I also have an RD2000, am leading worship and I’m interested in technologies like this. But I just wonder why using MainStage would add even more value, can you tell me? Greetz, Jeroen (:

You open up the vast world of virtual instruments - so you are in no way limited to simply the RD-2000 sounds. For example Omnisphere with the RD-2000 is a killer combo.

it is a 15inch MacBook with a touch bar. I am not sure what the specs are? I would like to know too. Having that many numbers of omnisphere and kontakt instruments can bring down a macbooks performance significantly, unless if it is an i7 with enough GHz and ram

The sound will come out from the Keyboard output. You can also set up an external audio interface. Or use the instrument as a sound interface source.

@benallen5967
@benallen5967 4 жыл бұрын
dream piano you could save your mainstage session to a USB drive, but you cannot play the sounds without Mainstage, because the sounds are plugins which run inside mainstage. In this case, these sounds would work in any DAW. Logic, ProTools, Etc.

@benallen5967 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Audio Gal! I chose the Focal speakers on the recommendation of the my Sweetwater sales engineer. I let him know exactly what I would be doing, and the specific purpose for which I would use my monitors, and he recommended the Focals to me. I have had the chance to listen to several M-Audio, JBL, Focal, and Neumann monitors, but I have not heard the Presonus monitors in person, so I can't make a very informed recommendation in that regard. Personally, I believe Focal makes the best monitors you can get, in any of their price ranges, but this is just from personal experience. Hope that helps! Huw Jones, thanks for the question. Having played the Nord Piano (which I don't own) and then played the Electro 5 MIDI'd to the RD-2000, as well as the CP4, I didn't notice anything radically different about the way the sounds responded. Of course, the triple pedal was not in the comparison above, but I would need a Nord Stage series or Nord Piano series for that aspect to be present in the demos. I actually wrestled with buying a Nord Piano 3, because the sound of the Nord Piano library, is quite good, and very enjoyable to play! However, having previously owned a Nord Piano 2, which had key action problems, then seeing videos and reading about Nord Piano 3 owners who have had the SAME issues, I just cannot bring myself to spend the money on a Nord Piano 3 when I have what I feel is a better key action in the RD-2000, and I already have access to literally the same sounds using the Nord Piano and Nord Sample libraries, with the Nord Electro 5. So, if someone wants to send me a Nord Piano 3 to test, I'll gladly compare it to the RD-2000 and CP4 on video, but I just can't justify having a CP4, RD-2000, and Nord Electro 5 AND a Nord Piano 3.
@benallen5967

Karl, thank you so much for the encouragement, I truly appreciate it! I could certainly improvise for hours on the Nord, CP4, or RD-2000 and upload a video of that, though I don't wish to promote myself, and certainly better musicians are out there to listen to! You are correct that I prefer the Nord Piano sounds to those of the R-2000, though each keyboard kills a need for me that the other one does not. I like the suggestion about Keyscape, I do own that and could make a demo video of all those sounds, though I am certain others have already done so, so I'm not sure what I can bring to the table that is not already there! I can do a screen recorded example of Keyscape though, I like that idea! Again, I appreciate the encouragement and compliments, as someone who is not a trained musician (I play by ear and cannot sight read) it is always good to hear when someone likes your music!

would you recommend the Alpha50? shape? or CMS series?
@benallen5967
@benallen5967 7 жыл бұрын
The CMS series has served me very well, amazing sound and built like tanks. However, if I was buying new monitors today, I would get the Shape series, since it incorporates the advances that Focal has made since the CMS series, and the CMS series is being discontinued I was told. However, Alpha, CMS, and Shape, will all be wonderful for playing keys through.

Hi Audio Gal. Based on my research, and my own experience, as well as that of those in forums across such well-known sites as Nord User Forums, Piano World, etc, I cannot recommend the Nord Piano 3, though I would love to have one, I feel it a risk. I actually wrestled with buying a Nord Piano 3, because the sound of the Nord Piano library, is quite good, and very enjoyable to play! However, having previously owned a Nord Piano 2, which had key action problems, then seeing videos and reading about Nord Piano 3 owners who have had the SAME issues, I just cannot bring myself to spend the money on a Nord Piano 3 when I have what I feel is a better key action in the RD-2000, and I already have access to literally the same sounds using the Nord Piano and Nord Sample libraries, with the Nord Electro 5.

is the rd2000 is far better than the FP90 for the money? can't decide between the two.. i'm not a performer, but i do like quality and wide range of options and layering... any thoughts?
@benallen5967

If you were going to get an FP-90, I would say the RD-800 is a much better choice for the options it offers, and if you really like all the extra layer possibilities, the RD-2000 is even better. FP-90 is quite heavy too.
