Great video. I'm going through Academy right now in Sacramento and my driving instructor told me they have a 75% turnover rate. The problem is that the post office does not make the job requirements CRYSTAL CLEAR in the job description. Nowhere does it say you have to work 60-70 hours per week and walk 10 or more miles per day, rarely seeing your kids or having a life outside of work. Its almost like false advertising. People have the right to know exactly what they're getting into before they apply and the post office is deliberately hiding it. Have a great vacation Nick.

Many of our CCA's work one day and then quit. I did a ton of research of the job before I applied so I knew I was getting into and basically would be working 10 to 12 hours a day, go close to 14 days days without a day off and put up with other stuff that goes on at the job. I just made PTF so like you said you gotta pay your dues. I am pretty fortunate as I work at a station with only 21 routes and they are all walking which is what I wanted and we have the ProMasters with the AC, no LLVs. And I started right after peak season which was better -- a lot get scared off with the amount of work we have. I've always worked jobs where I worked weekends/holidays/etc., so I was used to it, many are not. If you stick with it, it is worth it. Enjoy your vacation Nick. Everyone stay safe out there, carriers.

From the outside looking in and with some knowledge...The job is not rocket science. You just have to pay attention and learn "the process". The USPS has its process and although a lot complain, it is still the process none the less. You will be very hard pressed to find a career type job that offers the same level of benefits, yet so little focus on education qualifications or past history in the workforce, period. If I had to do life all over again, I'd have started at the USPS when I was 18 solely for the retirement options.

I liked being a CCA and having the option of holding down routes, it adds a little variety to the job and I honestly didn’t mind getting paid to exercise on walking routes (which was why I took a carrier tech position after conversion). The downside of being a cca was the Sunday parcel delivery and the fact that its kinda of a thankless peon job in general. The upside will be the generous benefits when you are converted to regular and the option for 8 hour days vs overtime. Hopefully your office will have enough retirements to get you converted quickly.

When I joined decades ago they told me that they couldn’t promise me more than 20 hours. They didn’t say that was because there was only 24 hours in a day. First day was walking out of the back door of the PO in snow. Suburb city was growing then so made regular in two years but still didn’t drive for six. It was a lot easier back then when the managers were allowed to manage. Now all they’re allowed to do is relay orders from district based on the computers projections.

Did residential and commercial deliveries in a big major city. On all kinds of weather, snow cold, or hot summer. 6 days a week, 10 to 12 hours a day, 400 deliveries a day with a scanner and dispatchers on my ass 24/7. Is it any different? I can handle that.

How many packages do you typically get with 22 relays? And that's a 8 hour day for you? Please do a video on break times, if you dont already have one... After 7 months, I finally started taking my first 10 minute break, and this week I found out that we get a 2nd 10 minute break after 6 hours...Thats extra time in my pay so Im going to take it! I still dont take a lunch though. 8 months without breaks is a lot of paid time I missed. Oh, and 1 time it looked like a 12 minute break because I was rearranging the truck- dont do that either! The scanner pings and gives your location. So rearrange or do a relay first so when you stop, its clear that you are not going over the 10 minute mark. I sure heard about it later from Management. Make sure its NO LONGER THAN 10 MINUTES! They dont care that you hadnt taken a break at all for 7 months😂

I'm honestly surprised I'm still here carrying mail after a year and a half. Religion is becoming a huge aspect of my life more recently, and the postal service is not religion friendly (even with the new religious accommodations). The weather can be a factor, and the walking does suck, but I think its because management enforces to you that you have no set schedule. Is the turnover still high for CCA's ? why can't the PO figure out a way to keep these people .. or at least tell people up front before they are hired about the many negatives about this job. Why can't the Postal Service give people 2 days off a week?

@@MailmanNick I can't understand why the Postal Service with so many Program Managers and other Analyst figure out why people are quitting and changing some of their rules to help people to stay. People need a stable schedule and you can't burn out people with a new job, new people and working them tons of hrs just starting out. Some of relatives recently quit due to terrible managers , no schedules, calling them in on their only day off etc.

@@MailmanNick When my niece worked for the Postal Service .. she quit after 3 months .. I asked why and she said , (as a single mother)..she couldn't plan anything , had to work every weekend.. was given off on a Tues . but managers constanlty called her on her only day off and told her she had to come to work .. she had appts for this day planned.. but they didn't understand it .. and gave her lots of problems. She wasn't trained properly and given many different routes everyday .. and couldn't learn one or two routes .. she it was the craziest job she every had .. she is in her 30's. She quit and went back to her waitress job at a Buffet .. with a set schedule. She says her pay was better at the Buffet ....and when I told her to wait it out and become regular .. she said she couldn't wait for years to become regular. The upper management should be calling the people who quit and try to understand why they are quitting .. and change some things around for the Temps.

I’m a newer CCA and just got off 90 day probation today. I don’t even have a uniform yet. I have a hold down on the second worst route at our station that nobody wants. A dog comes at me every other day. Somebody was shot and robbed last Saturday and I was 1 relay ahead of it. On Monday, someone fired shots in the air about 25’ away from me. My phones pedometer says I average 13 miles walking per day. Sometimes it’s -2 degrees actual and colder with wind. Then there’s the easy routes that people who are 20 years in do. They need to hurry up and retire. lol
