Warship Guide - USS St. Louis CL 49
USS Saint Louis, or “Lucky Lou”, entered service just prior to the start of World War 2 and saw extensive action throughout the Pacific theater. Although not as famous in the press as her sister Helena, Saint Louis battled the Japanese fiercely from the opening minutes of the war until the end of hostilities on August 15th, 1945. She participated in several night actions in the Solomon Islands, bombarded Japanese strongholds and screened for carriers of the fast carrier task force. Designated CL 49, she was as tough and dependable of a cruiser as there was in the Pacific and she earned 11 battle stars along the way for her service during the Pacific War.
