USWNT. I wish them luck. They will need a little bit of it as they aren't the dominant team they used to be. Several teams have passed them by in terms of raw talent and cohesive teamplay. Germany, England, Japan. Even some of the other LA/SA teams can give them a game now. It was inevitable, but a little sad as well...

Sophia Smith and Pugh have to sit on the bench next game. This are players who doesn't understand that they play with teammates and the can only win if they learn to trust others and pass them the ball when better position. Alex Morgan was the most deadly player in her early youth not just because she was fast and create chances, but because she was also unpredictable with her assist playing with Abby. She uses her speed to pull defense away always release pass early for her teammates, some she still do today. Pugh was dropped in the past by Jill for this inconsistency. It Pugh and Sophia can just learn to trust their teammates that they're capable too, it will make the even better players and unpredictable. No body ever win a game because the created more chances only people who convert those chances, so the commentators should start being honest with their commentary instead of platitudes. I'm not coach , if Vlatko want this player step, then he need to make them understand that no one is guaranteed a start or even a place on the team, they have to earn it. Playing for club where you may be the shining light and all you teammates depends on you doesn't get you free pass with national team where everyone is also playing well for their individual teams. And Megan Rapineo should start showing that leadership I keep hearing about, because for the talk about her leadership on the team, they seem to missing. Vlatko can either step up the pressure on this team or that pressure will be heading his direction soon.

Im officially saying every other team has caught up to the womens team, its a fact. With that said, smith and pugh are the most selfish players, and its NO LONGER going to work anymore now that other teams can defend now. Cooks defending is bad, huerta looks like a shadow of her former self, sullivan is bad. Rapino should be kept to a late sub, shes slow but atleast passes and can hit sitters passed in from morgan. Lavelle is still the best player on the team. Fox is better than cook, cook shouldn't even be on the team, with this backline we will lose every top game. I think vlatko sucks as a coach, but hes still probably the best coach we got "IF" he can come to the realization that hes not doing good. Im a ashley hatch fan, you can sub her for any forward

Smith and Pugh are very good. They created so many chance on the press too. The issue is sullivan does zero in the buildup. They need a deep lying midfielder who can relieve the back line.

First and foremost, this team is dysfunctional because they have a dysfunctional coach who either has bad communication skills and can't relay properly to the players or he's just plain overrated as a coach. - Alex (the useless) Morgan has been mostly useless and ineffective as an offensive player for the US since and during the last WC. Most of her contributions have been on can't miss put backs and the occasional lucky goal when she's in the right place at the right time. She can no longer take on defenders and score like a top 10 player in the women's game. The US doesn't even have a world class offensive player in the top 20 in the world. - Sophia (the clueless) Smith doesn't know how to shoot or score for that matter because she gets brain freeze like Tobin had even after getting pass defenders often. Makes me wonder if anyone is working with her on shooting skills, and simple faking left and right to keep defenders on their heels instead of just waiting for defenders to make the first move so she can reply. Both her and Malory and I'm afraid even the under 17 squad have the same issues. - Dunn should have never replaced KC Short on defense back in the day and even now. She fell asleep on defense to allow that 2nd goal. She's been more effective on the left midfield when she's playing with confidence which has been rare for a while now. She along with Rapinoe and even Morgan belongs on the bench, but unfortunately, the rest of team is deficient overall. - Rose Lavelle played surprisingly well in that game but like I've been commenting for a while now she needs to put on some muscle weight on the frail body to get stronger and faster and play with more confidence, and if I may say, be a little more selfish at times when she gets a chance at goal. Mia Hamm was the last great American striker that belonged in the top 10 for women worldwide, but even she was a little too unselfish at times to her detriment. I wouldn't be shocked at all if the US didn't make it out of the second round of the WC. Don't be surprised if they don't win the 2nd game today.

I agree. I think a big part of why Alex was developed so good was that she was playing with Lloyd and Wambach. I think Smith and Pugh and even Rodman need to watch her play to build up the skill they need.

For the Love of God, WHERE is Abby Dahlkemper and when is she coming back? I am absolutely not convinced with Cook or Girma being able to handle the defense. I still like Sauerbrunn, though she does not have the speed to catch fast strikers, but there is almost NO long-ball distribution out of the back without Dahlkemper! And there is ZERO defensive bite and attack without Julie Ertz. What about Sam Mewis also? How long are they gonna be out? The whole team seems to be missing that killer attitude of previous versions.

Too many times in the last 3 international friendlies we have seen players in the box not looking for the extra pass ar the trailing player for the cut back pass to slot the goals. As a matter of fact this was the US women's first goal in the 3 games to come from a cut back pass. Too many times we are seeing the strikers shooting from very acute angles they had other options and are not utilizing them.

So it’s the end of the 73 game winning streak on home soil! And back to 1993 when they last lost 3 in a row ……..if they lose Sunday when was the last time USWNT lost 4 in a row. It appears the Americanism of super athleticism is no longer sufficient to railroad wins against European teams. The USWNT need to work on gelling together because there seems very little consistency in the midfield and final 3rd as far as the team being cohesive!

@@danw4711 with respect @Dan W I didn’t reference any specific details about the match content nor the physicality of the opposition, I merely quoted statements of facts that were mentioned by the commentators , so your statements are not based on anything I said in fact most of your statements support my comments. Historically the success of the the USWNT was there superior athleticism which is no longer such an advantage over European teams as they have improved massively over the past decade or so, supported by your comment about the physicality etc of the German team being a winning factor, hence other teams are no longer being railroaded as occurred historically! You state “ they just didn’t finish there chances” which is literally what I said when I mentioned lack of cohesion and consistency in the final 3rd, but there is a difference between team cohesion and individual ability . Yes at times the USWNT appeared to dominate but failed to gain any results from that success due to lack of cohesion and skills of understanding the game that many European teams have due to the way they are bought up on the game. Many kids in many South American and European countries play football from an early age playing in the park or on open ground using jumpers / tops for goalposts ……not the collegiate pay to play system the Americans have. So even though USWNT had a period of possession they failed to get anything from all those opportunities whereas Germany had fewer chances but took better advantage of the opportunities they got , hence they won.

Sophia and Pugh are the same player, they don't pass the ball, take them off, against stronger teams the solo run isnt going to work ANYMORE! Cook is terrible at defending, Sullivan just stands there, huerta is a shadow of her former self. Fox can be good but shes not there yet. Lavelle and morgan are the best players, Dunn/Fox need more training/practice. Rapino is slow but atleast can hit sitters, shes easily replaced by ashley hatch. Today I find myself making a fantasy team of US and other international players, its no longer just US players that are the best at the top level.

Two words, Ashley Sanchez. Not sure why she's sitting on the bench. Pugh just will not pass the ball. And when she does shoot, she misses. In Sanchez, you have a playmaker, something this team desperately needs. In Smith, you have her dribbling away from the goal just to try and get herself a shot rather than making the smart move of pulling the defender out and making a pass to a trailer. Play Sanchez, she is a deft passer and an unselfish player who will get the ball to the right person and open up the field.

It's easier to make up the difference in having a little less funding but being part of a country with a proper soccer culture (European women's teams) than having a bit more funding but not having a proper soccer culture (US women). @@jordan84 you appear to be showing true ignorance to the growth and development of the womens game across the world and the historical privilege the USWNT has had for decades because of circumstance. Historically about 50 yrs ago the US had the only professional womens soccer league in the world supported by the collegiate pay to play system and you had a very athletic and fast team . Whereas no other countries had any equivalent league or infrastructure for the womens game so they have spent the best part of 50 yrs playing catch up hense the apparent dominance in a one horse race! It’s only in the past decade with lots more investment in leagues and professional academies across the world , especially Europe that has resulted in teams being equal to / competitive with the USWNT, I would hardly call losing to Nederlands and Sweden in competitions as steamrolling and in current form of losing 3 on the bounce would also contradict your “ steamroller “ statement. Many teams have gone through transition to replace veteran players , however the USWNT seems to have left it extremely late relying on the glory team of 2015 to represent them for so long. Given the investment in European teams for example there is a strong chance some of those nations will supersede the USWNT through better skill and understanding of the game. There is evidence of this already so the next decade will truly be interesting to see how the womens games improves and changes for all its participants.

Women's soccer in Europe has grown loads and the huge clubs of Europe has invested heavily in growing women's soccer. It is game over for the US women now. In all honesty, women's soccer in Europe is still in its infancy too... But the pace that it is growing, and the money in it now, coupled with the fact that Europe has the huge infrastructure and everything else of the men's soccer, for the women to use, means they will just continue improve at a fast pace.

Hi, cowboys, nice greetings from Germany. I do not understand, what do You want. The US-Divas played well. But the top teams on the planet are very close together. So it is more or less luck, who wins the game. The US goal was achieved by hard pressing & the poor Ms. Doorsoun, usually a very reliable defender, did not carry the ball close enough at her feet keeping control of it. So she tried to shoot it out, but failed against Ms. Morgan. The researchers of the USWNT, the admin caused the defeat, not the players. The US-coach took too much risk, not facing the fact, that the Germans have the fastest strikers on the planet. Both German goals were achieved by fast German counters. Ms. Bühl made the first sprint, and Ms. Brand the 2nd. No female defender on the planet is able to compete with the speed of striker Jule Brand, carrying the ball, if there is enough space for a sprint. In the German league everyone knows it. So all sides against Wolfsburg (Brand) or Bayern Munich (Bühl) are usually blocked, belongs to the quality of the opposing team. Some 2 weeks ago, Brand was elected Golden Girl, this means the best European player below 21. And in the 89th minute, You all saw, why. This is one of the reasons, the German coach brought Ms. Anyomi, she is a fast striker, too, but playing in the national team on a defending position to equalize the opposing strikers in speed. The US team was not well instructed about the Germans. Now they are, perhaps.

I see what your saying, european women's soccer is just now gaining traction. In my opinion every other team has caught up to US womens soccer. I don't think we have the athletic advantage anymore, and most certainly don't have the technical ability advantage. The only way I see US womens getting more technical is to hire more european coaching staff, that is the only way.

Although I understand your point unfortunately your theories of “ifs” and “buts” and suggested alternative soccer histories do not change the actual history. I’m sure I could write an alternative history for the English womens football considering they were banned for 30 years from even playing the game as it was deemed by the FA to be inappropriate for women to play whereas America didn’t have that ban thus giving you a 30yr advantage of development of the womens league ahead of England but applying your principals theoretically…..if England women hadn’t had the ban the womens game could have potentially developed at the same rate as the mens team and as a parallel to the USWNT with development of leagues and infrastructure, so hypothetically both USWNT and England would have been equally competitive so in theory we could have won the same number of World Cups as USWNT or competed equally for them, however given your grass roots theory about the soccer culture of European teams that would probably have given England that strategic edge so hypothetically England would have won more times than the USWNT under those different circumstances so had Englands women been allowed to play sooner applying your theories England would have won some of the World Cups the USWNT actually won, so hypothetically you may have ended up with less trophies in your cabinet. However history didn’t happen like that ! However what has happened is European countries have caught up with USWNT and potentially if investment increases in those countries then some may supersede the USWNT….not just one but several. The next decade should be very interesting to see how the womens game develops. I’m glad it’s no longer a one horse race due to privilege of circumstance. Atleast from 2019 the competitive level of the teams is a lot more balanced. If USWNT do not reduce the emphasis on being athletically better, then I think they will eventually get left behind as big European teams put both young boys and girls through their soccer academies from the age of 6 and eventually teach them techniques and tactics far superior and at a higher level than WSL / USWNT . I think America needs to develop their own academies and attract European coaches. There also needs to be a social change to encourage the soccer culture you wish you had from 1900’s that enables kids access to the game from a very young age. In theory that could be applied to both the usmnt as well as USWNT. It’s ok to be an avid USWNT supporter but you have to look at it in perspective as they have had a clear and bias advantage over many other countries and still has some advantages just because of simple things such as population ratio.

My daughter is playing in a travel team (club team). This is her first season as a club player. She has made very little progress 3 months into the season (now it's over). I am concerned with US women soccer. The coaches at the club level are just awful. They were not great players to begin with. And they are even worse coaches.

That's common all over the planet, that male-U15-teams win against women's A-teams. But women look much better than male players. And what do You want? The difference are 20% more male muscles. It means in 100 meters sprint, 1 second, 8-10 meters. Should women stop making sports? Should Abby Steiner not sprint anymore? It make no sense at all to compare women's and men's sports.

@@hajoos.8360 You say that after all of the huff and puff comparing US women's to US men's soccer in terms of pay. Everyone that was against was specifically saying how you can't compare women's to men's. NOW we're complaining about comparing the two when someone brings up that fact the women's national teams are losing to young teenage boys.

@@robert8755 you do not understand equal pay. It’s got nothing to do with women playing men’s teams. It was about the fact that the USWNT “had” - won 4 WC - and multiple Olympic medals (THIS TEAM WILL NOT ESPECIALLY NOT WITH THIS COACH). so a LOT of the money flowing into US Soccer was from jerseys purchases, game tickets sold, etc. Sadly the USMNT doesn’t have the “following”/fan interaction that the Woman’s team has
