The reality is that is not the BEST Spain. The coach is deeply critisized. 15 star spanish player has rejected to go to national team because of the coach. Even there was a momentum of the spanish womens players vs the coach. At the end, the federation decided to support the coach except to research the reason of these players. Supposely they cant tell the truth but I Think sooner or later Will appear. Some says that is tought coach with bad manners others other thing, the public opinion, dont know the real truth but at the field the coach was whistled.

The US women's team have been successful in the past simply because they took women's football/soccer seriously. In some Europeans countries, women were not allowed to play and also their local competitions were amateur. Now that the women's sport is been taken seriously and top players from other continents going to Europe to play makes the football in Europe more competitive. So future World Cups will be even because more teams will have a chance to win. Watch out USWNT, Europeans have risen. 💪

As an English guy here, it was always going to be tough for a new coach to carry on after such a successful USA team for years. You only have to look at our own Manchester United men’s team who have never recovered after years of success. The first new coach was always going to get all the flak and have a tough job especially during transition. He might not be doing too great but would anyone else ? maybe Sarina Wiegman but she got the England job.

It is much easier to surpass a nation without a proper soccer culture but a little bit more funding on the women's side (US) than it is to stay ahead of a nation that gets a little less funding (which is increasing) but has a proper soccer culture (Spain, Germany, France, England, any European country). The US has a screwed up player development system (pay to play and focus on athleticism more than technique) BECAUSE soccer has not been our top sport; basketball and American football are more focused on athleticism, so we don't have a sporting culture focused on technique as much, and because soccer was never popular, it became an upper middle class suburban pay to play sport. If soccer had always been our top sport, we wouldn't have this problem. But because it is, the only way for the US to stay near the top on the women's side and to become a top team on the men's side is to completely abolish pay to play, and import European coaches into our development system, until we have a proper soccer culture and understanding of the game

First, I don't think the US just focuses on athleticism. Rapinoe, Lloyd and Heath have very good technical skills. This is a proof that America can produce good technical players. And yes, soccer is a culture in Europe, and that's why the US should be afraid of. Almost all players from Germany, Sweden, England, France, Netherlands, Spain, Italy are playing in European soccer clubs. This is not good. The NWSL cannot rival with the Women's Champions League in Europe. The best players in the world are not playing in the US soccer league. However, the US has this huge and leading accomplishment of winning 4 World Cups, unlike the men's team. This is why they must take advantage of this. Don't be short-sighted. Get rid of the pay-to-play system. Allow more girls from different family backgrounds to play soccer. Increase the pool of players selection. And don't be arrogant. Send your players to play in the top European teams. I know, this is not what Americans would have wanted. Just like the men's and women's national volleyball team in America, most of them play in professional volleyball clubs outside the US. Well, maybe I'm wrong. People may think that the NWSL is the best league in the world and US players should stay in the country and contribute to the league. Time will tell.

The truth is women football in Europe has been evolving considerably the last few years. Before it was only about Germany, French joined but still has issue with mental barrier. The scandinaves have been there as well but lost momentum the last few years not being real football nations, actually like the US, compared to mainland Europe. Talking about mainland Europe, surging football nations like Spain, Netherlands or guess England have joined the fun in parallel with major teams in the bigger leagues in Europe starting to invest significantly in women's football. Barca was cl finalist the last two years. Cl was dominated by Lyon, and some less know n german teams. Teams like Chelsea, Arsenal, Bayern, are also aiming at cl titles. The best international players now play in the biggest league in Europe. The US will still be among the favourites but they are beatable and they may have tough time ahead if they are unable to adapt to the current change in the sport.

This new young crop is simply not good enough to compete with these European teams, and they need to start reinvesting in the WPSL and US academies. Also, the best US players need to move abroad and play in the European leagues. The reality is, that’s where most of the toughest competition is now

I don't think this is due to the new US players being lower quality than before, but more about the other countries just getting much better. Football (yes football) was traditionally a men's sport in all the world except the US, where it grew as a women's sport. Thus, other countries were just not as good because there was no support for women's football abroad. Now the story is different and it shows.

The moment women's soccer got a bit more competitive (still light years behind men's in the regard) suddenly our amazing US women aren't so dominant anymore. All those years of winning were mostly due to the lack of decent competition, not the US women being as great as the media made them out to be. Might cool the cocky nonsense a bit. One would hope anyway. BTW, this was basically Spain U20 team due to their own issues with their federation.

From Spain. I am very happy with the victory of Spain. But I hope that you will take Pugh, Morgan, Dunn in good shape, Ertz and Dahlkemper to the World Cup. They will be a better team. All in all, the first 30 minutes uswnt cut well the connections of ivana andres, olga Carmona and Claudia Zornoza (the 3 with the most technique and ability from Spain along with Oroz and Gonzalez) and forced Spain to raffle long balls to only 2 forwards, those 30 minutes uswnt slightly dominated with physical force (Horan, Sullivam, Picket) to Spain. But when under the physical intensity of uswnt Zornoza and Oroz began to play passing game and uswnt made minor mistakes in the corner goal. It changed the game and Spain began to dominate by exhausting uswnt in two ways: chasing the ball and making very long runs on the counterattacks. This is a good uswnt team, because it's impossible for uswnt not to have a good team. But in Spain and Europe we know that uswnt is stronger than what was seen yesterday. Cheers

extremely well said! Many people in the comments obviously have no knowledge of the game or the history of the USWNT, and it's nice to see someone who understands both of those concepts. Well done to Spain for taking the challenge despite everything that is going on in their federation, and I hope to see a change for the USWNT - whether it's a coaching change (crossing my fingers) or a change in formation and call-ups from Andonovski.

People in Ussoccer only have excuses and point fingers... but they don't realize the fundamental problem with ussoccer: Players development. This is a systemic failure and not any individual problem. I can see the American mentality is not suitable to play soccer, maybe in the future, when they change their mentality but right now it is not working. In all their sports and activities I always heard them shout : " Come on, come on, hurry, hurry, faster, faster....:, this you have to be stronger and faster mentality, especially you see in American Football, is not working in soccer. Soccer you don't need to hustle and be in a hurry all the time, sometimes you have to be relaxed and in composure and under control, which is essential for you to develop a good technique that is fundamental to play soccer. Look how Spanish players are very comfortable and relaxed on the ball, it feels like the actions around them becoming so much slower for them to weave through. Another problem with US players is their soccer intelligence is much lower compared to players who live in nations with soccer culture. US players are less creative and they read the game much slower than players in another country. Their decision-making is not good compared to players around the world. The bottom line, US players are way more inferior in terms of technique and game intelligence.

A few lessons here. (1.) The new Spanish girls are stepping up big time. So, maybe Jorge Vilda is doing something right after all or they are just hungry and have no plans to give up their newfound opportunity. (2.) The new USWNT ladies aren't ready yet and the likes of Tobin Heath, Christine Press, Alie Krieger, Kelly O'Hara, and Julie Ertz need to come back for one last hurrah! Nothing wrong with giving the noobies a chance but if Andonovski makes the same mistake as Berhalter in ditching all the Vets then they are not gonna go as far next year.

Sauerbrunn (37), Megan Rapinoe (37), Alex Morgan (33), Tobin Heath (34), Julie Ertz (30), Christen Press (33), Carli Lloyd (retired). This time is not the same. The squad is ageing, and the young players are not good enough to step up. Look at the U-17, U-20 world cups, they couldn't even get out of the group stage! This is very alarming. And Europe has been investing unprecedently in women's soccer, both culturally and financially. You would never hear teams like Spain, England and the Netherlands 10 years ago. You would just hear the good old enemies, like Germany, Sweden, and France. This is not just about the upcoming world cup next year, but also the problem with bringing up good young players and facing challenges and competition with Europe as they are investing in their leagues and more players are going over there to play.

The women’s national team is amazing, but they are taking all of their veterans and benching them! These young players are amazing don’t get me wrong, but adding a few at a time to get used to the play is good. Not taking every veteran out! Where is O’Hara, Heath, Morgan, Dalkemper, Press, etc. The list goes on forever. These young players don’t have the experience that they do and look scared out there. Alana Cook was getting me upset back there. Our defense looks so scared when England and Spain are coming at us!!!!! Hope Vlad will wake up and fix the team. IK its good for them Tom lose and be humbled tho

@@patricklangos1116 I'm English . Between USA and Germany in Florida? If Germany fly there earlier enough , and get used to the weather ,and rested , Germany to win , but similar to Euro final. Usa are no push over , big ,fast , hit hard , but they are used to playing lower ranked teams. Teams that are not so good defensively . Teams that cant stop them , and cant hit back on the counter. 5 or 6 of the top Euros CAN do this. Germany is very good at this. They dont panic, absorb the pressure , and when usa is pushing hard, they can counter quickly , at speed, in force and with skill. Usa are not used to playing teams like this. Germany to win , but very close. Slow it down , pass it around, make Usa run, tire them out. One game or two ? i thought you were playing them twice?

Vlad is proving he isn't the answer as much as he is part of the problem. O'Hara, Heath, Morgan and Press were not available due to injuries. Pugh elected not to go for family obligations. The team fielded in Spain and England is not the USWNT of two years ago. The entire defense is new and untested. The midfield is in total disarray. There is no offense. Until Vlad settles on a starting 11 and sticks with it, the team simply can't gel. The Olympics proved that. It would appear there simply isn't time for this new team to be ready in a year, if ever.

It's very disappointing! From the day Vlakto Andonovski became the coach of the US women's soccer team until now, our team has gone downhill miserably. Didn't the American football federation see this yet? We have a message for Vlakto Andonovski and his team here, you should resign right now because you are not capable of coaching a football team to victory. Football is a sport that requires you to have the ball to win, but American female players all lose the ball , pass the ball to the wrong address, or pass the ball to the opponent's feet frequently, so what is your strategy? ? Looking at the American women's soccer team on the field nowaday is no different from an amateur football team in the countryside. In the last two football matches we lost to the English women's football team: 1-2, lost to the Spanish women's football team: 0 - 2. That was too enough time to change the coach, and reform the US Women's Soccer team if we don't want to fall behind in the world .
