Great video. Learnt something new about HDR & Dolby Vision. I bought a Sony 55” A75L a few months ago. One issue I noticed is that Dolby ATMOS was not automatically enabled…I had to enable it in the settings. Is the same true for HDR & Dolby Vision? Shouldn’t these turn on automatically based on the signal being sent to the Sony A75L 4K TV?

Hello and thank you for appreciating our efforts:) Your sony tv will automatically detect , if the content played ( through Netflix or any other ott platforms/ source) is Dolby vision. Then automatically Dolby vision will be enabled. Once you see , Dolby vision written on top of your screen , it means that content is in Dolby vision. You can even check it by going through settings - picture For external devices connected though hdmi , there you have to manually enable Dolby vision, for example usually hdmi 3 have Dolby vision for sony TV's, you can use for PS5. I forgot to mention: - I use Google TV built into my Sony A75L 4K TV to stream content from: video files off my QNAP storage server, and KZfaq App in the Sony Google TV. - I also use the eARC HDMI port (#3) to connect to my Bose 600 Dolby ATMOS Soundbar. I’m wondering if I need to manually enable Dolby Vision (or HDR) for video files I stream off my QNAP storage server? I hear that KZfaq doesn’t support Dolby. Thanks 🙏

KZfaq doesn't support Dolby vision, but it does support HDR format. You can infact check it's format, by going through details of the file : it's resolution /signal information. Also, videos played from external devices too should automatically detect Dolby vision. But still to be sure , you can follow the same process of going into picture mode and check if Dolby vision enabled ( but for this your file should be in Dolby vision)

Hello brother, god bless you for all your work & may you get all the deserved appreciation for all of this… Bro, I wanted one of your Valuable suggestion for buying a TV, I am confused between Sony X90L vs Samsung Neo Qled QN90B/C 🫤 I am more inclined towards Samsung Qled personally by looking them in TV stores, but at the same time the support of Dolby Vision which is only available in Sony puts me in a confused state? Is Samsung’s HDR 10+ as good as Sony’s Dolby Vision while watching OTT Content which support Dolby vision ? Will i be missing out on too much to with Samsung? And finally which one you would have picked if you were at my place Samsung Neo Qled QN90B or C( whichever comes in better deal) or Sony X90L? Brother please answer my question, i am eagerly waiting for your answer…… Thank you

Hello and thank you for your wishes, it means a lot to me. The two tv's you have picked are one the best in the market which are neck to neck with each other. In any ways you are going to make a right decision, but to know which tv will be precise for you ( according to your usage) kindly tell me about your tv usage pattern : What do you generally watch on tv : is it ott platforms, that too which platform (Netflix or Prime ), set top box channels ? Any gaming ? Also your room lighting conditions, is it too bright or normal ? Every tv delivers something unique, if we can select one that matches our requirements & it's delivering capabilities then that will turn out to be the perfect one. For now just sharing : Dolby vision and HDR 10+ are almost the same format using similar metadata, but still when we watch Dolby vision contents on Dolby vision supported TV, then gives better experience in comparison to HDR 10+ . Prime videos generally have HDR 10+ supported contents while Netflix have Dolby vision supported contents. waiting for your response.... Best wishes :)

@@utilitiesforlife brother TV usage are like it will be used in normally bright room in a hall where there is a window too which allows sunlight during daytime. I will mostly be watching OTT content, KZfaq( maximum usage), my second preference will be gaming & occasionally I will watch Set top box channels. Please suggest which one is better according to my usage Sony X90L vs Samsung QN90C. Also please tell that does PS5 works better with Sony’s TV or is it equally good with either of them? & Which TV has better Sound output in these two TVs?

Android OS, very good processor and upscaling capabilities, Triluminous colours, Dolby vision support and 120hz refresh rate will give very pleasant tv watching and gaming experience. Nowadays, audio of every tv is average, but I found sound profile of x90L pretty much balanced. You completely did not understand what the HDR standards are and what Dolby Vision is. Like most people btw. In essence HDR is achieved by the EOTF curve. All standards use the same EOTF curve (PQ). This curve replaces the traditional gamma to do the conversion and is the theoretical optimal way to smoothen out a discrete number of greyscale steps so the human I can not distinguish them anymore. In a video format of 10bit the image will stay under the Barten curve, so 12 bit should be the goal, but most tv's and video container formats don't do this because it would still require too much bandwidth. Next is the color gamut, in your video you make it seem like 8bit, 10bit or 12 bit have a different color gamut. The color gamut has nothing to do with the video bitdepth, I repeat : nothing. Also the REC2020 color gamut you show for Dolby Vision is not proprietary to the Dolby vision standard and can also be used in any other HDR standard. Same holds for the brightness. So what are the standards about then ? it's about the way an HDR grade is converted to an image which is compatible with the specifications of your television, through tonemapping. Dolby Vision and HDR10+ have dynamic metadata, but only for a discrete number of max nit values.

Hello 10 bit panels are available. Technically achieving a 12 bit panel will require the tv to be able to go upto 10000 nits brightness. Hence, right now we don't see 12 bit panel TV's. Dolby vision , is capable to show 12 bit colours, but not always it shows these many colours. It's the maximum no. Of colours it can show.
