Here's the exhaust system all fixed up at last on the Chevrolet Caprice Station Wagon, with a quick look at what all was done. I saw some evidence of fresh welds on the Y-pipe as well, so maybe it had some breaks in it.
Next up...shock absorbers for all four paws, fixing the electrical problems, adjusting/lubricating the shifting linkage and (maybe if I feel enthusiastic enough) finding the vacuum leak you hear hissing near the end of this video. Also to be fixed is the one rear window that won't work without help. I will be looking at the distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs and wires. Then I'll send the factory radio off for a good overhauling and look toward fixing the rust damage.
Whose wonderful idea do you suppose hiding video tags was? Here they are, if you care:

Once you drive one with sway bars and a Impala SS/ 9C1 tight ratio steering box, you will be amazed with the handling! Its an awesome mod.

i like that wagon a lot for some reason. since i inherited the one i have now, i've taken to noticing a lot more of them on the road. a lot of the modern examples have such similar body styles that it's hard to distinguish between them sometimes.

I fixed the exhaust leak using exhaust tape, 14" x 14" sheet metal, and a 4" U bolt clamp on the resonator and used a 2.5" U bolt clamp for the joint between the Catalytic Converter and Resonator.

I dunno, I liked it with the exhaust leak better. You can live with the check engine light on and slightly poorer mileage, can't you? lol. I'm glad this car fell in the right hands and is getting the care it deserves. If someone bought this car and didn't bother to fix the little things, it might have had only a few more years of life in it. I sometimes wonder where some of the cars I've had are now, if they're still "alive." Okay, guess I need to take my meds again... think happy thoughts!

Before I stumbled upon your channel about 5 years ago I thought my family was compulsive with cars, but after watching you 3 Stooges buy all these wonderful cars I'd dare say that my family is "conservative" haha. (before I got my license in 2005 my parents drove 2 cars each - my dad had his '97 Nissan Hardbody & '69 Camaro, mom drove an '02 Chevy Avalanche & '67 VW Beetle. Now between my mom, sister, & myself we still drive 4 cars [but of course I'm the one with 2, go figure])

I had a place in Clinton IA replace my electrical ponytail and put in a new CD player in my 84 sedan. Same GM clip and everything. Those wires have been known to go out after 20 years and cause major static when they rub together. As far as your HVAC fan controller, trying to find an OEM Replacement might be tough. May have to be a junkyard find for that one.

There's a place called Pull A Part near me. If you tell me what you're looking for, what years/makes/models, I can go snip a donor harness for you and drop it in a priority mail flat rate small box. It'll be extra cheap, like 2-3 bucks for the wiring harness if that.

Those R4 A/C comressors weren't GM's best. Both of mine make a little noise too. Though if they get really noisy it means the compressor is grinding itself up. Best of luck with the car.

I think maybe you need to sand blast the underneath of that car and put a product on it called Fluid Film It prevents rust and is VERY good. you may already know from watching CRORVAIRWILD'S youtube channel.

I'm of the belief that the biggest factor which killed station wagons, and would prevent them from regaining prominence, is CAFE regulations. Wagons are classified as passenger cars, so they score against a more strict CAFE requirement than truck based vehicles. Hence the manufacturers were artificially incentivized to de-emphasize wagons. It's in their regulatory interest for all passenger cars to be small ones. Even if a wagon would get better mileage than the SUV which replaced it.

I worked for Model electronics for over a year repairing from am fm radio up to $5000 radios They are a authorized chevy repair station . I repaired that kind of radio at least 1 or 2 times a week . I then went on to work at NCR . It is located in Nanuet NY Look them up in the google . Tell them my name and maybe you will get a discount . I have not worked there in over 15 years but I left on very good terms . One of the owners took me out for a shot of whiskey when I left .

How the heck did a '93 land up with R12 A/C? At least retrofitting is doable with factory parts as GM made this car during the R-134a era. Did someone park that car in a puddle of salt water? Yikes, those fuel lines look crusty. I gotta revive my other car next weekend. Maybe go as far as putting on a "for sale" sign.

4.3L is a V8 engine everyone. GM did not make a 4.3L V6 for the Caprice. It's the L99 and has 8 cylinders. it's a smaller version of the 5.7L LT1. smaller cylinder bores and pistons etc. Best way to tell a 5.7L from a 4.3L is by looking at the alternator. 4.3L has a small fan looking alternator. 5.7L has the big boy. Many ppl have made the mistake of buying a 4.3 thinking it's a 5.7 lt1 only to find out after the fact that they actually have the lackluster 4.3L....V8! which is an L99( baby lt1)

I hate to break it to you, but the 4.3 l in 1994-96 caprices is indeed a V8. However, if its any consolation, caprices did come with v6s. They were available only by special order in 1991-92 model year taxis. For reference, look up “caprice v6 taxi” and it aughta show up. Hope that cleared up any confusion.
