Q - Airs2k - KZfaq - Why are manufacturers not using v-band clamps on exhaust systems? I work on airline and all the pneumatic piping has those clamps. These slip on clamps are poop

Just did a resonator delete and had to use both! The slip ons are definately easier to deal with when you need a little wiggle room. Good content as usual.

For turbo downpipe and other in engine bay purposes v bands are great. But anything under the chasis I prefer the low profile nature of a Torca Accuseal. Both are better than flanges any day

Use a slip on clamp with a rubber sleeve you fashion yourself out of something you can find

costs, costs and fabrication of the ends...cost..... v bands are high pressure clamps for turbine engines.

That's just the consumer way of looking at it. Cost actually means much more time, expertise, and precision. Anyone can use a band clamp to assemble the exhaust, but using V Clamps can make some set ups 10x more difficult, especially if you have dual pipes right next to each other. You have disassemble the exhaust and pipes, get the right size clamps and flanges, measure precisely to accommodate for the V-clamps extra length, cut the pipes perfectly square, weld on the flanges CAREFULLY without warping them - and you have to do it on both ends, then perfectly line it up and snap them on. Alone, these clamps can cost $50-$80 each too.

Did you miss the entire section about tolerances and how v-bands are less forgiving?
