Now that my kantele is retuned, I wanted to record something with it for Halloween. This was just an improvisation recorded with my phone, but I've been really inspired lately by the Finnish 19th Century Epic, 'Kalevala'. In the lore, it is said that Väinämöinen makes the first kantele from the jawbone of a giant pike and a few hairs from the stallion of Hiisi. He loses and grieves for his first kantele, so makes a second one from a birch, strung with the hair of a willing maiden.
I also really enjoy the work of J. R. R. Tolkien, and it has long intrigued me that much of his Elvish languages was inspired by Finnish, and that he was also greatly inspired by the Kalevala in the lore of Lord of the Rings.
