Installing shore power in a van or RV provides an easy way to keep power supplied to the batteries when it's parked for extended periods or on cloudy days. Shore power installation is relatively easy if you have a Renogy inverter charger, Victron inverter charger, or another brand.

I am SUPER excited that I found your channel and look forward to watching the deep dive into your electrical system. Since I live in a very not sunny area (Syracuse, NY), I'm not going with solar in my 2023 AWD MB 144 Sprinter but I'm going with DC-to-DC and Shore Power. I also like the idea of going stealth and not having the Shore Power located outside the van. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise I appreciate you very much.

That's a great idea running the cord out the backdoor instead of putting a hole in the side of the van. Don't you need a circuit breaker in between the inverter/charger and the power source?

According to Renogy, you can wire the plug directly to the Inverter Charger.

Quick question: I was just curious if this is the fastest way you can charge your batteries in terms of size of your inverter. Would it be possible to charge the same size battery bank that you have in under 2 hours or less? Thank you for your video I liked and subscribed to your channel and look forward to more content.

I have the 3000watt inverter from renogy, why cant i wire the shore power directly into that?

Hi just this point with my build,I have exactly the same inverter & did not know that you could conncet directly,how cool. i also need to set up a consumer box double poled for my power points,have dont this ? if so how did you connect this up to the inverter, ? any help much appreciated,Thanks & great vid by the way :)

Hi after watched your video you mention to connect to shore power you need inverter charger. Can I by pass the inverter charger by charging my battery with a 30a victron blue smart charger at a campsite?

Does running the cord through the back door damage it over time? Are you closing the door on it?

I’ve only used this setup to connect to 15 amp power. I used a pretty thin extension cord and closed the door on it. If you’re connecting to 30 amp shore power, you wouldn’t want to close the door on that large cord. I’d mount a receptacle outside of the van. That’s what I’m doing on my new build. I’m mounting it on the trailer hitch.

How is the Renogy Inverter Charger holding up? Not sure if I should go with the Victron or Renogy.

Definitely Victron. We now use Victron in all our conversions.

I'm confused. I thought an inverter converts 12 volt to 120. So you're going to connect a 120v plug directly into your inverter?

An inverter/charger goes both ways. It converts 120v to 12v to charge your batteries, as well as converting 12v to 120v.

I’m debating adding a main breaker for connecting my inverter/charger to shore power. It does seem redundant when the Renogy manual does show that this unit specifically has charger input protection.
