How to install simple no drill camper van shore power in Ford Transit | VAN BUILD #22

@@SteveAudra yes, I'm building out a van. Slow going and I'll keep referring to your vids as I'm doing now. Have begun the wiring phase. I have loads of screws too that I don't know where they came from or what were originally for. Trick is finding them when needed. Because of location, would this be better with a GFI?

@@Kayte... Yes, a GFI would be a good idea. We've been meaning to replace our outlet with a GFI but just haven't gotten around to it.

When I added outlets, just to be extra safe and cautious, I used GFCI outlets. Since your outlet is by the door and could get wet, a GFCI outlet might be a good idea.

Thanks! Someone suggested that we should use a GFI outlet as that area could potentially get exposed to the elements. That's a good idea. Eventually we'll probably upgrade.

Hahaha! Thanks! It's been working really well for us - although I think we'll switch it out eventually with a GFI outlet as has been suggested just in case we have to open the doors in bad weather.

Great video! I’m curious to why you didn’t use the original black plastic for the plug surrounding?

Thanks and thanks for watching. The reason I didn't use those black plastic pieces is because I felt they weren't in terribly tight. I suspect it might not survive the removing of plugs without becoming detached.

Can you do this on the driver side? or only on the passenger side? Great video.

Thanks! I believe it's the same design on the driver's side except you may have the factory switch to deal with.

Thanks! We're glad you found it helpful. There are all kinds of things you can run through those columns. We just ran cords for solar from the roof!

@@SteveAudra oh wow that pretty smart running the solar cables from there less fishing and more direct to the batteries . I made the mistake running it near my fan up front . I had to fish the wire through my interior to battery in the back . Awesome thanks again

I believe you shouldn't have any trouble. Might take a little finesse but should be doable.

What is the power strip next to your shore power plug you installed? Thank you!

We plug that power strip into the outlet we installed to give us a few more outlets. It also provides us with a simple on/off switch should we ever need it. Additionally, most power strips also have a surge protector built into them which adds an extra layer of safety.

Why didn't you mount the electrical box to the stock plastic piece that was already fitted to the hole?

I suppose I could've but I feel those plastic covers aren't too secure. May not stay in place when removing plugs.

So does the outlet only work on shore power? Neat shore power hack there,not bad if you just use it occasionally. I would undermount definitely and not put a hole in the van for it.

Yes, the purpose of that outlet is only for shore power. We have other outlets in the van that can be powered by our Ecoflow Delta or shore power, depending on how it's hooked up in back.

@@SteveAudra I poked around on your channel trying to find the details on your electrical setup - I'd like to use the Ecoflow Delta as well but still like the 25A 12VDC output of the Bluetti AC200Max. But you can't beat the recharge of the EFD
