Is great to hear Brian talk about Ed in present tense as though he is still here. He IS still here. Eddie lives in each and every one of us guitar players (and all musicians) who were inspired, entertained and influenced by his greatness.

Nobody else, except the greatest party band 3ver, could get away with that tune. It’s perfect! That’s the stuff that set DLR VH apart from every other band out there.
@Gorilla.Guitar
@Gorilla.Guitar Жыл бұрын
@@brianallen8091 as much of a non-DLR fan as i am, i have to agree with your analogy. He def had a profound effect on the ebb & flow of that band. their ability to weave different & corny numbers into their stuff was always a highlight for me & as a guitar player myself, it had as much of an appeal to me as eds chops. they could pull that stuff off largely because they had the balls to try it.. very beatlesque to me but with marshall stacks. the bah bada shoo be do wop bit they do on the 1st album, dead in the middle of that bombastic guitar tune. what contrast!.. I always thought stuff like that was genius & obvious DLR 's influence.. his lyrics were awesome, just coy enough sometimes to often make you think. i love that style of word- play, chuck berry was awesome at it as well. lennon, etc. they had beach boy quality harmonies to pull off bumpa deedas etc.. they were really one of the most versatile groups popular music will ever see.. im not sure a lot of people get that. i often wordered if eds recognition didnt drive dave to push for the oddities so he could get some love, lol.. big bill became a whole other joy for me once i heard (2020, lol) dad handled the clarinet chores. the cool factor multiplied ten fold then... its not just about instrumentation, haircuts, volume, rap sheets, branding or any one thing or gimmick. the best live music ive seen was a combination of 3-5 guys on a stage, vibing off each other, confident, & unafraid to be silly & humorous for the fun of it. . consider the possibility that VH may have sold a lot less without daves push in the early days.. later years, i wouldve preferred he be pushed off the stage.lol. VH was def a most unique band in their 1st gen. i like sammy, obvi a better vocalist, but early DLR was waaay more hip & astute as a writer than samdog ever was.. & yes, im aware sam sold more than dave..doesnt minimize the quality for me.

The level of ego & pride that was thrown into Eddies lap,just for being so good, & he had to learn how to live by that. I cant imagine your band is going to play....and the entire stadium is chanting YOUR name before you even hit the stage. Ya cant go to a magazine section without seeing Your face on most of the guitar music magazines. Ya cant listen to your favorite rock station without hearing your song. So i can understand when billions of people tell you youre awesome, the psycological effect it must have on a person thats just really really good at what they do.

I think a lot of people fail to think of the influence of swing jazz had on Ed, who was exposed to those solos at a very early age by his dad, and swing music is kinda of the link between rhythm and blues, and jazz, and unlike jazz it has parts that aren't harmonically correct , but still sound cool. Always thought of Lynch as what Neal Schon would sound like if he had been influenced as a young player by ED and Randy

That's exactly right at 59 I started teaching myself to play guitar, but I was learning when I was like 13 but I didn't pursue it I went to the drums and continue the drums and forgot about the guitar when I never should have done that, I would have been good at it because I learned songs instantly it didn't take me five minutes to learn House of the Rising Sun and some scales but I didn't pursue it, now I'm trying to do it in my old age and it's f****** hard. I'm making progress but not like I did when I was younger I've learned a bunch of intros to songs and I can play some of eruption and the intro to Love Walks in and a bunch of other stuff still having fun still making progress but not like I could have if I had pursued it when I was a kid cuz it was easy back then. I mean being a drummer i had guitars around me all the time did some studio work played out and everytime I did pick up somebody's guitar I could remember everything I learned when I was 13 so I was like maybe I should teach myself. yeah little late I think by the time I get decent on guitar where I could stand in front of a crowd and do it I'm going to be too old. you know what mean, I injured my forearm on my left which is probably slowing me down you know life happens rock on brothers it's not going to stop me though I love playing and learning how to play guitar it's a challenge and I love a challenge

There is no mere mortal now or ever that will equate to the talent, inventiveness and gift of EVH. He still is with us all like a big umbrella over the entire guitar playing community. My love and respect grows unbounded for EVH as the years move along…DLR most certainly was the perfect frontman for VH…he supplied the mojo, the provided the outlandish and mystical element and the star element. But, Diver Down, no thank you…that’s an opinion of course, but VH II had his best recorded tone and Light Up The Sky is one of thier best tunes…maybe the best? Just opinions folks….but Diver Down?
