Hey guys! Here's a little video of van life in the Southwest. Spent a few weeks camped out in Tucson, Sedona and the Superstition Mountains. Hey :) I’m Christian Schaffer, and I’ve lived on the road full-time since May 2018. This journey began in 2013 when I left the corporate world to build my career as an outdoor adventure & travel photographer. As a semi-minimalist, I eventually decided to donate/sell most of my belongings and move into my 4x4 Nissan Xterra. After 14 months of SUV living and falling madly in love with the open road - I bought a van and hired a team to build it out. Van life enables me to experience and document the beauty of our natural world on a whole new level, all while having my home and office nearby. My hope is that by sharing my own personal highs and lows along this (sometimes) wild journey, you might be inspired to hit the road or spend more time outdoors. Maybe one day I'll see you out on that open road 🚐

Fantastic display of the desert's beauty! Having those gaps is a good thing, in my opinion. So many people record every moment so they can maximize uploads and views that you have to wonder if they're honestly living for the themselves or the algorithms. I'm being a broken record in your comments again - what you do share with us is always a nice treat due to the quality and effort you put into the individual videos!

But I know many people that record videos of themselves, and take pictures all the time about their daily life. They never upload anything. You have to twist their arms to let you see what they captured. I guess they just want to have memories, or memories to leave behind. It would be a nice thing to share who you were with your great, great grand kids with videos. Pictures leave too many unanswered questions, and bones are just bones.

I've heard it said, 'home is where you hang your hat'. To me that means home is wherever you are at. Truth is most people are firmly rooted around where they're livelihood resides and that inherently robs them of the opportunities to experience the many beautiful places you Christian have decided to make your home. In another video I think you were in Zion you said that being there made your 'heart happy'. In a way, through the life you're living, you are making all of these places into a beautiful constellation or mosaic your home. I am thankful to you for you creating these golden nuggets of experience for those of us who may have chosen the 'rooted life experience' but yearning to see, and live, and breathe these experiences ourselves. You have enabled those of us, myself included, to experience a glimpse through your contributions here and I am so very thankful to you for these. I wish you continued prosperity and happiness to a life well lived and look forward to your future creations!🙏🧡💛

What I love about your vlogs and the reason why I go back to this always is that you seem to have fallen in love with the magic and wonder of nature which is why you're trying to capture it (beyond work). It's similar to how mystics describe the indescribable bliss they found when communing with the divine nature and sometimes you achieve that through solitude.❤

“What if I didn’t”. I think about that often. Nine years ago at the age of fifty my wife and I quit our jobs, sold everything and moved aboard a sailboat. At the time we started this lifestyle we had a lot of doubt and anxiety about what we were doing. Now looking back it was the best thing either of us ever did. It also lead us to living in a Sprinter van this year and looking forward to new land adventures. Our only regret? We wish we made that fateful decision when we younger like you; ).

Your photography, as usual, is so impressive. I really appreciated seeing this video! It reminded me of home. When I was a kid we lived in Tucson, well, a dozen miles outside the city limits to be exact. Very isolated and I loved it! I spent countless hours roaming the desert familiarizing myself with the different flora and fauna. When most people think of the desert they think barren, lifeless. Not the Sonoran Desert. Along with its landmark Saguaro Cactus, this desert is teeming with life. And in the Tucson area if you desire to escape the summer heat there's always the Catalina Mountains close by. I know people marvel at sunsets over the Pacific Ocean and they are impressive. But to me, nothing beats an Arizona sunset. God I miss them! Continued safe travels.

I spent a week in Tucson, and only later realized that was waaaay too short. I've been missing it since, especially when I see shots like these and Mariah's. I drove through Sedona and it was a madhouse, I didn't realize it was spring break. I kept right on driving.

I don’t blame you, Sedona is a circus this time of year. Apparently they’re about to begin some long-term road construction which will back up traffic even more 😳 I try to camp far away from the city and only pass through there when necessary. Cottonwood (nearby) is more laid back and where I like to resupply and shower

If I remember correctly you weren't exactly keen on narrating these yourself originally (maybe still lol). Turns out your natural self, with just a trace of endearing awkward, is perfection. First off, kudos to Nathaniel for the Airbnb stop. Stellar. You mention that you are sometimes surprised you are still living your lifestyle after 4 years. It is surprising because it is a lot of work as we see when you take a moment to share it with us. All I know is that if someday you hang up your keys and say good bye, I will be sad, but know I have been blessed to have enjoyed your company.

That was nice. Needs way more of you in the shots though. Barely saw you. I know it's hard though when you're the one holding the camera most of the time. When you're not in it though it feels like it could be any random persons video of random landscapes. The familiar people and friendships make it special and personal, and you're the star of the channel that we come here for and like to see along with the pretty scenery :)

Your videos are great. They are relaxing to watch and you have a talent for photography. You are correct in that you can't record everything and be present at the same time. Life is about living the moment.

I had almost forgotten how stunning the Arizona desert can be, been so long since I lived there, I remember the stillness of the desert, and yet so much life. Spent many a night on a car hood staring up, one of the most powerful experiences of my life. Your imagery is truly breathtaking, great soundtrack too. Watch out for the scorpions :)
