Although others would disagree, I'd say you're living the good life! I'm taking the van down to AZ next week to thaw. Good luck with the MD gig!

Great vid! I’ve got a little trick for keeping your stove burning nice and clean, and simple to boot. Just throw a aluminum pop or beer can in with the wood once a day. This will create a barrier, so creosote can’t bond to your chimney. I’ve been doing this for years, and it works like a charm. Good luck, happy trails, safe travels, and God bless 👊

Thanks Darrin! Is it important how you position the can in the stove? Or just toss it in? And then do you leave it in for the rest of the day?

Michael Coughlan My stove is full size, so it burns up a can quickly, so I’m thinking you could get a couple days off one. As far as placement, a nice hot spot is what I look for.

Next time you clean your flue pipe, instead of working hard with wire brushes and whatever, remove the pipe and lay it on the ground in a safe place...squirt the inside of it generously with a flammable liquid...light it up with a piece of newspaper and let it burn out your creosote build up. After the fire goes out and the pipe cools enough to handle, there should be nothing but loose grey ash in there. New sub here.

Hi michael :) thanks for the link! Good to hear you got you flu sorted :D Really happy you took no offence at my advice, especially as I was worried about the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning. (Do you have a carbon monoxide alarm, if not I highly recommend you get one)! I had a look through your videos but couldn't find a "van tour" could you link me if you have one or could you film one if you haven't, i know a lot of people would love to see a tour of your awesome van! I love van life videos and I know a lot of other people do also, many people do a youtube searches for "van tours" and it would be a great way to bring people to your channel. I have just Subscribed to your channel and I look forward to more videos from you! Wishing you all the best from the UK, Bob :) Happy New Year!

Sorry I'm not familiar with fire wood bio blocks! Basically the manufacturer suggests hard wood, no pellets. But they are very good at answering questions. You can find them here: cubicminiwoodstoves.com/

Good VID, looks like you're living a great winter life in that van. I like your wood burner. Will that log last you the night? My friend has an old coal furnace below his three bay maintenance garage, which he burn wood now of course. He tells me to clean out his chimney stack he simply burns paper on occasions in this so-called wood burner. He says he inspects the chimney periodically and its clear. This old-timer was an active fireman and his son is currently the local Fire Chief, so I take him for his word he know what he's doing. Tell us about your van, like age, mileage, in great shape? Is it a 350 V-8 engine? Have you considered a 12VDC Diesel Fueled Heater ($169) for those times between getting loads of wood, or when your cleaning the wood burner? I'm a new subscriber, so hey a thumbs up and a HELLO from western PA. USA.

Everyone with that stove has had to deal with creosote issues because the flu pipe is so small. We found an old pot belly stove on kijiji for next to nothing with a regular size stove pipe that we use in our cabin up north, just an FYI. Great channel and videos

SP392 Awesome. A bargain! I clean mine every 2 or 3 weeks depending on useage and that seems to do me well. I find the size too good to swap it out for something with less maintenance. Besides, I have a stainless steel flu which is insulated with muffler wrap. Thanks for watching!

Hi Michael. If you see this comment I wanted to say I’ve been trying to find a way of contacting you directly- or as directly as possible as I have some questions about van life in Ontario. I plan to have bought and finished a van by this time next year. So my questions mainly have to do with connecting with others in Ontario or thereabouts bc I’m going it alone. And apropos of nothing really I’m a fledgling comedian. Anyway - I know for sure I’d like to make connections with other people who live on the road. Lastly - I’ve heard you’re not supposed to put your email address on public posts but I can be found easily on Facebook. Thanks! And break your leg or whatever it is people say as not to jinx an actor!

KZfaq, FB groups/communities, Twitter, Instagram are all pretty decent ways to get connected to vandom. Lots of ideas and sharing going on. Feel free to ask questions, I have found everyone to be pretty cool. I hope your ride turns out well. You could do a comedy tour and never have to book a hotel room.

How much did it cost to get the van and convert it
@MichaelCoughlanmusic
@MichaelCoughlanmusic 4 жыл бұрын
Hello MO, the van cost me about $2000 CAD (maybe $1500 USD?), and most things required in the renovation were used materials - wood panelling, counter & shelving made of repurposed 2"x4", etc. My TV was a used purchase from online classifieds, the swivel it's on was new, I did buy some new insulation for between the walls, and some faux counter top tiles (from the dollar store!). My buddy Mike had a wealth of stuff in his garage including the carpet for the floor, and I am forever indebted to him for his help in building, repairing (motor), and advising on this crazy journey to freedom. It's hard to put a figure on all of that stuff since it just kind of grew organically over the years. But rest assured, you can have yourself a KILLER lil' van for $4000 CAD ($3000 USD?) if you're not of a 'mint condition' mentality. I consider my ride a cabin on wheels. Used, comfortable. Thanks for watching!

@@MichaelCoughlanmusic so I'm completely interested in this van life. Do you recommend buying a converted van. If so where do i begin to look
@MichaelCoughlanmusic
@MichaelCoughlanmusic 4 жыл бұрын
@@Dr.Mini_moe I would look around on classified ad sites (we have kijiji here in Canada, a bit like Craigslist but better organized). Look for something that matches what you want - could you do with a minivan for example? Because that will be less of a cost on gas. But if you need something bigger (I love a full sized van for the space, but I am 6' tall) a full sized van or a cube van maybe better. Maybe a small school bus? Then you can stand inside. The most important thing is that the vehicle is mechanically sound. If you get to the point of actually shopping for vehicles, make sure they let you take it to a mechanic for an inspection, unless you have an associate (with mechanical knowledge) who can come with you for the test drive.
