Van Staal VSX-2 First Look and Anticipation

In this video, I will be discussing some of the major and minor differences/improvements between the Van Staal VSX and VSX-2. This is a first impression so no field testing with this reel has been made yet. The rod I intend putting my VSX-2 150 on is a Lamiglas Carbon Surf 10 Foot 6 rated 3/4-3oz. Great video! Do you feel the x2 is a bit tighter on “ reeling feel “ compared to the gen 1 if both reels were new ?

It depends on what you mean by tighter. As of now I think the X2 will stand to be a better performance reel. 2 of the major changes that make it even more durable were the unibody design to prevent saltwater intrusion even more and moving the clutch to the rotor as opposed to having back play in the ant reverse in previous models.

Have you used the vsx2 at all? Would love to hear your thoughts of it compared to the vs usa ones you have and the vsx

Van staal were made in Connecticut for a reason half the people that use the van staal don't use them for what they're made for only guys I can vouge for the Montauk guys.

Looking to get back into it. Looking to get the vsx2 151 to plug with on south Jersey beaches. I am thinking a gsb, frontier x, or surf machine in either 9 to 9.5 range. Any recommendations or is this overkill.

The GSB 101LS 10 footer rated 1/3 oz is an awesome pairing for that reel.

id recommend anywhere from a vr 150-200

curious why not the vsx200 on the 10'6"?

It will work. It's just the fact that I primarily use lamiglas rods now which don't really come in half intervals regarding rod length. Tsunami airwave elite 10 foot 6 is a nice match though since I've verified and field tested it.

@@surfcastingtheisland4914 Well you did say in the video that you intend to pair it up with a lamiglas carbon surf 10’6” so i think that’s what the guy above was asking. My question to you is do you think it would pair up well with the 10ft carbon surf medium 3/4-3oz or would it be over kill? Or do you think it would pair nice with this rod. I’ve been thinking going with the vsx 200 but if i can save a little weight id rather go vsx2 150.

@@BrangottabassI use my vsx-150 on up to a 10'6" 2-6 oz and it feels great. It is much lighter than a 200, and you can still fit more 30-50lb braid than you need.
