Perfect informative video. Had one of the large e-clips still resting in my parts tray after supposedly completing the assembly; so, had to do a partial teardown to add that e-clip. Would suggest that both e-clips be installed per Page 12 in the Instruction Manual; and, not one per Page 12 and the other per Page 13. That would have saved me from missing one. Thanks again.

This transmission is a brilliant design, with one exception: The gaskets for the shifter arms don't seal at all. Dust, dirt, mud, sand, and especially water will go straight through them and eventually ruin the transfer case gears and bearings. With all the effort put into designing this thing, I don't understand why such an important detail got so little attention. If it just used molded, accordion-style shifter boots, the transfer case could be made completely waterproof. I was considering this transmission for a future build, but I hesitate to spend almost $200 on a drivetrain that'll self-destruct in most environments.

That might be fun to play with someday on a monster truck or something, but I'll stick with my Super Shafty with a hurtz unit for crawling comps. Love all your vids, love most of your gear. So quick question as the interweb is full of conflicting information. The slop in the rear output shaft. Some say the slop is intentional for the DIG to function properly and some say to shim it out with the mysterious plastic shim from the kit. (The manual says nothing about either) And while shimming it with the plastic shim does remove all the slop, does it have a negative impact?

Extra parts are on the mold for various configurations. It’s pretty common for kits to have extra unused parts. Metal bearing plates help support the gears more and are a nice strength upgrade.

Some are finding a clicking sound coming from transmission (felt through the front drive shaft) during climbing? Some have shimmed the upper gear on the main shaft coming from the motor to reduce the click? Believing it may have some side to side play ..Any thoughts or ideas on this?
@HarleyDesignsInc
@HarleyDesignsInc 2 жыл бұрын
The upper gear really couldn't have anything to do with that if they are feeling it thru the front shaft since all gears past that gear would experience it. The front portion to the VFD Twin is the exact same as the previous VFD. It's more likely something in the front output overdrive gears and slide dogs if they are only seeing it in the front. It's not something I've had on any of mine. They should also check the driveshafts are phased.

So I’m having an issues with my vfd twin. It’s been locked in 6% od since I built it. Now it’s acting like it’s not fully locked into 6% anymore. When the front tires get meet resistance trying to climb they stop running and trans just clicks and slips. So it has to be the front output. Pulled trans apart and everything seemed fine. No busted gears and slide dog looked fine too.
@HarleyDesignsInc

@@HarleyDesignsInc I pulled it apart last night everything looked fine. No busted gears, dog slides looked fine. Reassembled with the instructions and still has issues. It had all the pin for the gears were they were suppose to and had both e clips on the rear output shaft and had all the correct shims between the bearings. . I have roughly 10 hours on it before it started having the issue. When I get off I’m going to lock in into 33% and see if it’s still doing it. Either way I will pull it back apart and check it once again.

In order to do RWD, your Tx needs to have at least one 3-way switch, or a dial that can be set to "act" like a 3-way switch. If course, in order to be able to set the dig shifter to allow FWD, you'll need the same. So...if you want the ability to use ALL options (4WD, FWD, RWD, dig, and selectable dual OD), you'll need a Tx with two 3-way switches, or two dials, or one of each (plus the requisite dials & 2-way buttons/switches for accessories, such as winch & lights). Here's how I see the channels: throttle, steering, Aux (if using Mamba X), OD, dig, winch, one channel to control on/off for ALL lights simultaneously. That's already 7 channels. Now, time to pack up my Phoenix kit for the night.

This is where I’m at as well. The front driveshaft seems to rub on the transmission casing when installed. There is a _lot_ of drag. I’m going to attempt rebuilding to see if that fixes it up, but am wondering what I could’ve missed. It feels like the front output shaft is too short. edit: I’ve broken down the transmission, confirmed everything is in the right spot. I noticed that the 5x11x4 bearing sits proud of the 30t front drive gear. I think this is causing the output shaft to be “short”, pulling the driveshaft into the case. Upon reassembling, I tightened the screws on the left (front-output) side of the case first, followed by the right. This helped a little, but I think the real problem is the too-wide bearing for the 30t gear.
@HawkerFury
@HawkerFury Жыл бұрын
@@tristan-s that’s interesting. Two of my gears have a recess which is only 2.5mm deep and a 3mm wide bearing to fit. This causes them to sit proud. I noticed the casing actually distorting very slightly when the bolts were done up. Hmm. Might need to deepen the recess in these gears
