Vans RV 10, Build update adding the AirWard Parking Brake Adapter + the Matco PVPV-D Parking Brake Valve and removing the Vans stock brake adapter. In addition I do a quick update on the Vans OP-60 Adahrs Bracket which does not work for the Garmin GSU 25 Adahrs unit.

Hi, I would like to fit one of these parking brake valves to my RV9 build, do the lines run from the P1 brake cylinders into the valve then direct to the main undercarriage legs to the brakes? thanks Chris

what fitting size are you using? both into the port (1/8" NPT?)? also what fiiting size and alu diameter braided line dimension are you using ? (1/4, 1/8 3/8??) and what hose type is it inside the braided hose? I ask because I am totally new to experimental build and need to learn the basics... hope for claryfying answers/comments

Michael, A couple of things for you to consider, everything i am doing is for a VANS RV 10 so the fittings and materials are based on that. I suggest you get AC 43.13-1B/2B aircraft inspection, repair, and alterations it has a ton of information on standards etc (covers everything). specifically to your question 1) They are NPT, 2) the dash number on the fitting indicates the tube size so for an example the AN837-4D indicates 1/4" OD for the brake lines. 3) also flaring of aircraft tubing is different than that for other industries it is 37 for aircraft vs 45 for automobile so be careful about tooling. I'm not really sure what's inside the braided hose that was purchased pre made. Hope that helps, George

GSU 25 & OP-60 -- I plan to mount it on the bottom side of OP-60, after drilling new holes as needed. Garmin doesn't recommend mounting it tubes up because of moisture collecting in the unit, so tubes down mounted under the OP-60 seems like a win. Thoughts?

That was the option I was going to do as well, and I expect it will work very well (plus it is less likely to get in the way) but after talking to the VANS tech support they actually said most people put it on the back of the G3X (which is very easy to do) - seems pretty sturdy to me for now, if necessary I can relocate it to the rear if I start having any issues. For the VANS forums people also seem to have good success with it on the back of the G3X. Also on the back of the G3X the other 9 pin connector is actually setup to wire directly to the ADAHRS.

@@aleafonthewind3775 I did consider putting it on the back of the G3X, but decided to go with the rear since my other ADAHRS is already in the front (the G5). I'm not sure that wiring it direct to the G3X would work, unless they are the only things on the entire CAN bus. My Garmin docs say that the second connector only has CAN, but no serial or power. Also, what if that G3X fails? Will it take out the ADAHRS that's wired direct?

Its in the G3X touch installation manual section - 26.4.1 P4501/4601/4701 (P4X01) Connector The P4501/4601/4701 connector (referred to as P4X01 connector in this section) can be used for connections to the GSU 25 when mounting the GSU 25 to the back of the GDU 4XX (Figure 8-2). This mounting method may not be recommended for all installations, contact Garmin for details before using this method. regarding the power, great question - I have still to test it but based on the pinout names it looks like power and can bus will be operational regardless of the G3X. In any case I also have a backup from my G5 but i do plan on testing it.

@@aleafonthewind3775 I think part of this problem is that Garmin doesn't explain enough here. If you connect P4X01 to the AD-AHRS, then there is no way to connect the CAN bus to anything else. Note that P4X03 says "reserved for future development", kinda suggesting that it cannot be used, even for CAN. I'll call Garmin at some point, but if you call them first, let me know what they say. :)

Neil, agree Garmin does not provide a lot of detail but it is connector P4X01 not the one that is reserved for future use. You are correct you can only connect one can bus via this connector so you still will need to daisy chain the can bus from the main can bus input to the g3x to other devices . I guess internally it does some magic with the connector for this use case, and if you dig through the documentation (i think one of the interconnect diagrams) you will actually see this setup being used.
