I think it was abit of both tbh, more afraid of being forgotten and afraid of what comes next after death, because in the end noone truley knows.

I don’t think we can say with any certainty he hates Ubbe. He was raised closest in age to Ivar, he as Ivar said ‘was my legs’ and loved him dearly until Civil Way and only cus Ubbe sided with peace and not killing his own people just to avenge his mom. If Bjorn didn’t teleport to Lagertha when she’s in mortal danger, Ubbe was literally about to blood eagle Lagertha from behind for blood debt and who knows if Ivar who was face to face with Lagertha would have a crafty roll dodge slash like we’ve seen before Lagertha would strike him or more likely he was gonna throw his knife 🔪 into her while Ubbe tomahawked her from behind. If Bjorn doesn’t walk in, Ubbe and Ivar are remained bonded over that forever. Bjorn and plot ruined their relationship but ain’t no way if Ubbe is somehow found at a disadvantage to Ivar in combat, whatever, no way any iteration of Ivar would kill Ubbe, he’d rage cry and spare him. He sincerely stated to all SoR at the parlay that he still hates himself for killing Sigurd, his LEAST liked, antagonistic brother, not a beloved and respected Ubbe, so if he had to kill Ubbe he’d prolly pull an Ubbe via Hvitserk when he couldn’t kill his own blood and stayed his sword 🗡 and ran off. Ivar would only kill Bjorn for various, somewhat legit reasons, and Sigurd who shared a mutual antipathy with him, no other SoR. His parting worlds to Hvitserk was I would and could never kill you, brother. Ivar is a merciless, psychotic, narcissistic, ambitious, somewhat ‘touched’ (however their is a high correlation between mental health issues and creative genius), charismatic, strategically and tactically elite true Old Norse Viking but he possessed love or strong sincere affection to many in the show not just his parents Floki and Hvitserk. I believe you are incorrect reading him like that but respect your opinion and you’re right to have it.

Ivar genuinely loved and cared for Igor, no blood, the catalyst for audiences to be aiiight with him. He may of liked the hype she was pumping him but for a while he did love Freydis Also sincerely and without bad faith or too many wiles, Ivar genuinely admired Bishop Heahmund and saw in him his idealized self and/or living embodiment of Ivar’s ultimate ‘What IF’ inner monologue/constant fantasy truths where he wonders why he couldn’t be born with normal legs cus then he’d be at least more similar to Heahmund in ferocity but still wielding a notably worse blade that might notch up badly against Ananyzpata) Still, he’s quite proficient in swordsmanship despite being grounded and legs are half of swordsmanship, most sports really, a dead eye archer and lethal knife thrower/wielder, Ivar as an unscrupulous, functionally godless top 3 Vikings universe fighters is a PROBLEM so he hopes to live vicariously through the Bishop. He also hates his dishonest and downright maliciously deceitful tendencies, which as far as he can tell, Bishop doesn’t have. To finish, Ivar treated Heahmund better than Hvitserk if you watch. During chess, he knows his brothers aren’t smart. Hvitserk is an attack dog, no more no less. Ubbe is with Bjorn was is a great, borderline tier 1 fighter but of middling intelligence and a tad weak willed. Bjorn is actively unintelligent and his luck saved him for far too long despite his stupidity ought to of killing him numerous times. In addition to being a bad ruler, middling to competent general nothing special (Ragnar, Rollo, Ivar, Heahmund, sorta Aethulwulf, Ubbe, Alfred and maybe Harald could all defeat him in an open field given similar numbers. Not even counting Eckbert who notched several field victimizes and was far from a dummy or cowardly puppet king. Bjorn is a captain not ideal commander, a melee fighter with little patience, not a field observing general that you need against Ivar. He’s also easily outsmarted snd is predictable.

Not true. He wanted to be greater than Ragnar & said it several times. Said Ragnar was already forgotten by everyone & that he wanted to be the greatest Viking that ever lived.

@@Tw0FacedJ0ker Yeah he did but at the time when he said it or atleast most of the times he did he was going through a few crazy phases but he looked up to his father. He only wanted to be greater then him whe he became crazy through loads of abuse and becoming powerful which happens to a lot of people who become powerful from nothing they claim to be great when they might not actual be Great.
