Don’t lie as if you haven’t thought a series should have had changes. Hvitserk muddled the storyline. We didn’t need the death of his love interest. He didn’t need to be an alcoholic and accidentally kill a major, leading character.

The death of his love interest by Ivar fuelled the rage in Hvitserk against Ivar, which led to their rocky relationship. The show runners wanted them 2 to have that sort of relationship to make their final days together in the battlefield even more emotional, both brothers realising they acc love each other. His addiction and alcoholism depicted the same addiction Ragnar had when he went to Paris for the second time. It’s supposed to symbolise Ragnars state of mind. And Hvitserk came out even better after his addiction, finding peace in the end. Hvitserk is like Ragnar because a traumatic moment in their life (death of thora and Athelstan) led them to addiction and they finally found peace after. Lagerthas prophecy was she’ll be killed by a son of Ragnar. Bjorn loved her too much, ubbe made a pact with her, it was too obvious for Ivar to kill her, so Hvitserk was the only one left. The show runners wanted to symbolise the end of the golden age of the Vikings and beginning of a new age. Lagertha and bjorn were part of the old age, and they both had to go. So it only makes sense for Hvitserk to kill her unintentionally. So, for the show to fulfill prophecies and symbolisms, Hvitserk was a crucial component in that task. Capiche?????

Ivar was a teenager in the show, I think we first meet him when he’s about 16 and dies at 20. Hvitserk is like 22-23 by the end of the show. They’re also both Danish.

Hvitserk, for me, was exactly as you say...unnecessary, underdeveloped and just a boring character they couldn't make me care about. But Siggurd was the worst. Just completely unlikable and annoying lol

@@theleperking9607 I mean I know Vikings as a show didn’t give a fuck about actual history lol but had they kept Sigurd and made him less unbearable there was a lot of story potential for him from a historical stand point whereas Hvitserk didn’t even actually exist.
