I started keto on January 1st this year. My body gets bad inflammation from gluten sugar and yeast. I definitely started noticing physical difference. My hair stopped falling and got thicker. My body inflammation went down and my sleep improved. My periods are not painful anymore so that is great. But....my mental state started slowly falling apart. Because I went strict keto (cold turkey) and gave up all the carbs and sugar at once and it was so bad that I was contemplating suicide. It is very serious in my case and I wanted to tell my story. The fillings of uncontrollable anger and emotional instability where taking me down. I felt I was standing with one foot over the edge. And I was tipping. I told my boyfriend my thoughts and he said to start eating some carbs and sugar. This part is very important......I was grateful that I was stripped of all the foods that where keeping me comatose and numb. I was exposed for what I really was and I finally understood that my past abuse as a child was something I had to deal with instead of masking it with food so I don't feel it because I just wanted to live. Because I understood my trauma for the first time in my life I was actually able to continue my keto lifestyle. Actually my flexible keto lifestyle. If I ever feel I need that temporary help I will have that piece of chocolate. But now I know why I eat it and I'm aware. We are all tender humans who deserve love and support. Thank you for reading #foreverpeace

I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic for the 1st time back in February of 2021, when I was 65 years old. Cutting out all foods made with flours from grains, especially wheat, made the biggest difference for me. I had to stop taking insulin 7 months ago, and I'm off all drugs. I feel great! Your description of the control you have over what and when you eat is spot on with my experience. It amazed me too! Even though I wasn't obese by any means, I lost 45 pounds in 3 months, and the weight is staying off. What a great video this is! Thanks!

I'm a 58-year-old woman who is an overweight, unhealthy vegan. My husband and I decided recently to start a keto diet and today, May 1, is our first day. I found your channel while looking for bread recipes and I am grateful because I didn't think a keto diet could work for vegans. You are so inspiring and real in your approach. I agree with your philosophy about listening to your body and normalizing a healthy approach to eating. My goal is to feel better and be healthier while maintaining a vegan lifestyle so I have already learned so much from you. Thank you for the work you are doing to educate the public.

I love this video. I have been Keto for several years myself and experienced many of the problems that you experienced myself before I started. I'm glad that you're spreading the word. The more people realise that sugar carbs etc are unhealthy the better. I watch you with my other half and we have tried many of your recipes, many of which have become a regular part of our diet. The most recent was chips. We're not vegan but do eat vegan sometimes, and sometimes use slightly different ingredients but get great results. You seem very nice as well, relaxed with a proactive approach to life. We look forward to your videos and hope for many more. All the best.

This is so true. I was always hungry my whole life. I would keep eating until I was so full I would be sick. My hunger just never turned off. Since starting keto almost a year ago, my hunger is normal. I rarely get truly hungry unless I've gone over 18 hours of not eating. I have to still get used to eating less. My body can't handle the volume of food, but my eyes still want a lot. I feel so much better now that I'm on keto. My inflammation is virtually gone, and I have lost almost 40 pounds. I love your recipes, even though I'm not vegan or vegetarian, and they help me vary my food choices. Thanks for your videos.

In my opinion you must do more videos like this! This is genuinely true about me-I’ve never been more positively affected by any video from any platform than I am today by yours. I hear real honesty. You’re authentic and vulnerable and real. How you explained so many things about food and eating has never been explained to me like you do in this video eg “its about the relationship you have with your body.” A light bulb moment for me and I really cherish those moments! Fantastic video. More please and Thank you!

Your recipes and tips have really helped me to stick to the keto diet . I'm not vegan - not even vegetarian ! However , your recipes have helped me through the dips. I've been struggling with Graves disease for years ( though I hadn't realised how long it had been going on ) last year I got a diagnosis and started on my keto journey . Before then I would often crash and burn with carbs and in particular sugar . Now I'm still in recovery but moving forward thankfully . I found that your recipes have been consistently good and enabled me to keep going . This post has been so interesting and such an insight ...it's really given me a boost to hear your story ❤❤

I related to everything you said. I’m not losing weight on Keto, still need adjustments, but the freedom from the ‘diabolical’ battle in my mind is worth it. I no longer crave carbs/junk and that is HUGE.

I'm going to share a recommendation and I hate doing this because I know you have so many other people already who try to jump in and fix it. but this was a game changer for me. in summary -- I found that most of my over eating happened in the evening. after my last meal at about 5 or 6 PM, I brush my teeth and then sip lemon water the rest of the evening. some thing about that mint flavor in my mouth followed by the stringent lemon flavor cuts the possibility of craving and over eating. it works for about four or five hours.

I wasn’t overeating but that’s a good tip. Have read Dr. Jason Fung’s book the Obesity Code since this post and I have started fasting for longer periods (36 hrs) and I’m happy to say that the scale has finally started coming down after a couple of years of trying. I guess I was overeating in the sense that I didn’t need to eat every day.

As someone who has celiac disease it's been a wonderful resource for me. The average gluten-free products are high in carbs that are low in fiber and high in sugars. It's was very hard for me to have a vegan diet that was right for me where I feel at my best. I thank you very much. ❤️🙏🏻

I believe if people don't like to cook, their diets will most likely fail. People also stop a diet once they feel good, thinking they've fixed the issue after a short time. I'm guilty of both. I've looked into vegan foods and found that most of them are highly processed. I like the saying "eat one ingredient foods". Thanks for sharing and love your channel.

Highly processed is not a bad thing. It really depends. Soy protein is highly processed but very well accepted by my body and feels very good on my gut. It's all about the details and individual reactions of the body. Individual whole foods can be as bad.

Thank you. I love your recipes., even though I am not vegan. I lost 106 pounds in 2019 -20 on keto. This solved several health problems. I then went low -carb in late 2020 I have slowly gained back about 8 pounds, but I still feel good. I plan to do another "keto cut" to lose about 15 pounds and then hope I can maintain on low carb. I was so miserable when obese and felt I had to eat every 3 hours, constantly thinking about what I could eat next. The freedom from hunger and being able to go many hours without thinking about food is wonderful.

Your story for starting keto and sticking with it, is very similar to mine. It’s often said that it’s hard to stay on a Ketogenic diet, but when your not ruled by craving high carb foods and you feel and look so much better, it’s easy to make healthy low carb choices. And, with your recipes, eat delicious food! Thanks so much!!🙏🏼

I am doing low carb now for seven months and slowly my body is adapting. Just like you do, I do not test but go twice a week on the scale. I use that as compass to see what the food is doing. But I get more and more fine tuned, feeling what is good for my body and what is not. However, sometimes I have a day with complete exhausting. The same feeling I had during ketoflu. Looking back I often ate too much carbs the days before or had enormous stress (also a learning point) But overall my body is satisfied and quiet. Again thank you for the info and recepies.

currently addicted to your channel! I went keto back in 2016/17 and lost around 40kg, I felt great and saw results. by the end of 2017 I became vegan, however, I lost track of my health - I began to retry all of that junk food I had let go, but now in a "vegan version". I regained almost every kilogram back and I couldn't feel worse. I want to feel good about my body again, but I'm not willing to ever drop veganism: It is, for me, a logical ethical choice that I'm never coming back on. seeing and knowing that vegan+keto is possible to do, mantain, and thrive really motivates me again 🙏💖 ty

Without even knowing your story, you have always struck me at peace with the food you have been cooking and presenting on your channel. We all have our journeys, no doubt. I was an up and coming ballerina in my early days and appeared fit and healthy. Like you, I battled inside which really took its toll over the years - mentally, physically and financially (many different sized wardrobes were not cheap). I have never been hard core keto/Atkins but started practising low carb principles a number of years ago that I still gravitate to even today. Even if I slip, I feel it immediately and know that low carb is right for me. It always makes me feel good. Thank you for sharing your story, Fan. I really admire you

I for one appreciate you making those recipe videos because it has helped me with different Ideas for what to make when I need to replenish my body. I found out that I was at a stage of insulin resistance and if I were to continue to practice eating carbs and sugar, I was going to end up a diabetic. I was already a vegan but the choice to go keto was a must and a no brainer decision for the sake of my health. Ever since I cut carbs and sugar out of my diet my body has made quite a remarkable turn around. Not only have I lost weight but I don't feel as hungry as I used to before. It was as if I was an addict to carbs and sugar. The more I eat it the more I craved it and it was slowly disrupting my body to the point of causing a breakdown. One can only appreciate the kind of freedom we can achieve with a vegan and keto practice in our lives. Congrats on your 4th anniversary of your health journey and again thank you for your great show. It gives me hope and feel strength in backup in that I have something that I can make to help me continue on my own journey.

Thank you Fan for this video! Having unhealthy food relatoinships and being obese from childhood, I decided to approach the vegan keto diet as a temporary therapeutic alternative to the weight loss surgery my doctor suggested as the only option to my struggle. Ultimately I lost 100+ lbs. and found so much freedom and flexibility in it that I now consider keto a lifestyle and although no longer exclusively vegan, the majority of my diet is whole food plant based keto. Furthermore, I am happy to say I have maintained this major weight loss for over two years. I am still working on my ingrained emotional triggers around food, but this makes it so much more manageable. Thanks for sharing and spreading the word in such a practical way.

Thank you for this candid video about your struggles and your journey. I love that you are not dogmatic. To me, vegan keto is dramatically different from the standard keto that relies so heavily on animal products. Refined carbs are terrible for most of us, but when I look at the typical keto menus, they're just so unappetizing. I am not a vegetarian, but so much animal fat and meat is just gross. You are offering a vision of keto that actually looks healthy to me. I haven't figured out how to live without rice and starchy vegetables... that's my stumbling block. I've really enjoyed your "what I eat in a day" videos to generate ideas. Thank you again!
@forisma
@forisma 2 жыл бұрын
Not only gross but unhealthy as well. Saturated fats don't just magically become healthy on keto. There's a limit to how much saturated fat a person is allowed to eat. Also, omega 3 should be balanced. I wonder, how keto people do it. (I am just interested in this diet, not on it yet.)

Last year 2021 I fasted the first 40 days, then ate lots of fermented foods. I would check yet my body didn’t say it was in ketosis. This year I did long fasts and have been very happy with 16-22 hour 1 meal time slot each day. I have come to the conclusion my body is healing the unseen. I am finally in ketosis. I am careful of eating past 5 p.m. as I get a great amount of energy and find it impossible to sleep. Lol! It’s been a long road. I enjoy you here and the honesty. Thank you.

I’m glad for this talk - you inspire, help refocus, I’ve been on Keto but have ‘slipped’ off it because, well life - but I’m wanting to reestablish my commitment again - I find it the easiest diet in my 54 years - and I’m overweight so that’s saying something- but I don’t think of it as a diet - too many negative connotations- it’s a lifestyle. A choice. But I really liked how you spoke of ‘listening to your body’, I’ve been overweight since 13 and I’ve trained myself not to think of my body certainly not listen to it - im now trying to undo and rectify that and this talk helped refocus and encourage me. Thank you so much for your perspective & recipes. I actually had the reverse problem regarding satiety. I would feel completely full after only a few mouthfuls. This led to eating little but frequently over the day. So despite being on clean keto I became diabetic. I have had to retrain myself to eat all my calories in a 4-6 hour window. It took some getting used to but I can now eat a full meal & am no longer diabetic. Just a warning not to underestimate how important fasting is even on a low carb diet. Eating little & often is the single worst nutritional advice being given. It is a blueprint on how to become insulin resistant especially as a vegan.

Thank you 😊. So much of this is relatable to me even without going to dance school. When I went to college it was so challenging to find foods I had at home in the cafeteria. And so I entered a malignant phase of trying to figure things out. Years later it's clear to me that my 'research' was more probably just advertising fueled by a malicious and corrupt industry. The wellness industry. It told me everything I ate was not good for me. I tried to cut carbs drastically. I tried to cut all dairy. I tried to cut calories. And that whole 'diet' thing left me in a mess honestly. I too had this issue of not know when I was full. It's a real thing. To be left so uncertain of your health and wellbeing that you can't even be sure you are full. And it wasn't until I felt full for the first time in a very long time that I made real headway. Also agree with you on the eat when you are hungry bit. It's spot on. In fact I think the part of wellness industry that's most damaging the consumer is this concept that if you do everything instamodel M says then you will become like that person. It's so damaging. With time I am learning to incorporate various aspects certain diets into my lifestyle. It may not be perfect, or fit a mold, or be agreeable to any other health guru but it's working for me. I believe there is a lot of health to be gained by nurturing people to listen to their bodies, helping them find confidence in understanding their needs intrinsically and then supporting them in those efforts. Our bodies change through life. What is right for me today may not be so in 5 years. In contrast to what I feel about the wellness industry I definitely belive the wellness community means well and lifts others up by sharing thier journeys. And your channel is a great example of this! Thank you

Thanks so much for sharing your story. It's not far from mine as being in gymnastics and binge eating followed by unhealthy habit so I wouldn't put on weight. Even though I'm now well into my 70s I'm happy to finally find a peaceful and healthy way to control my appetite. Keto works for me with a little non-keto treat now and then. For me, keto really controls those awful urges to eat the whole house. Thank you again. Your recipes are so appreciated.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and your thoughts. I've only just seen your recipe for cauliflower and cabbage mash which is delicious so I'll be looking at more of your recipes so thank you for sharing them. I am vegan but looking to reduce carbs which was a daunting thought as all meals seem to be with potato of some sort or pasta of some type or rice and I was wondering what to have instead as those things make up a huge part of a meal. I've mostly cut out wheat and only have spelt pastas which I feel better for. I'm not aiming to be on a keto diet as such but I just want to do what feels right for me and not just push myself to fit in a certain box. I think your approach make sense to me and it's not always a good thing to jump in and change too much at once. Each to their own and all that. 🥰 Wishing you health and happiness x

I did keto successfully for more than 6 months last year. I fell off the wagon in September 2021 due to developing a chronic health issue which led to eating my emotions and going back to binge eating which I thought was not my problem anymore while I was on keto. Your videos were allways inspiring, I love your creativity and your overall good vibes. I clicked on the video today not expecting what I just saw. I was pleasantly surprised to know that you, a person I look up to, so calm and mature (from what I've seen in the videos of course as I don't know you personally) used to fight the same food deamons that I have been fighting all my life. And that keto can be an answer. I tought of myself as a weak person, how can I need a "diet" to be able to not eat like a pig. I wanted some miracle way to be able to enjoy a piece of candy and not want any more, to eat just 2 slices of pizza etc. Seeing my weight gain that happened in the last half year after quitting keto, I tried to eat intuitively, eat normally etc and it took a lot of emotional effort and was not very successfull. Your video reminded me how free I felt when I was on keto. I was too mentally drained recently to consider going keto again, cooking for myself, not eating junk every day... But your video gave me an impulse to try again, stop whining, be a better person.

When I turned 30 I noticed a huge difference in my metabolism / generally how my body process food. I feel really sick when I eat a lot of carbs and sweets. My lymph nodes become swollen the next day! And when I cut back on those foods, I feel great. I have So much energy. You’re right, it’s really important that we listen to our bodies. I am trying my best to cut back on carbs and sweets but I am taking it slowly (I’m on my 1st month of low carb diet). I grew up in an Asian country and rice is a staple food that we eat 2-3x a day! I just can’t give it up completely for now, I eat half a cup to a cup of rice per day. I hope I will be able to give it up completely someday! :)

Thank 🙏 you so much for putting so precisely in words what I am experiencing with KETO. I specially could relate to the lentil part on which I relied heavily (daily) in the past, but gave me eczema on the long term. Presently, I am looking into the whole issue of lectins (for instance plant paradox by Dr. Steven Gundry) and Ayurveda (doshas), which however does not make the journey easier but thanks to your insightful and delicious recipes I find the freedom and energy to try out new creative and guilt free ways to nourish my body and mind. You make my journey on KETO exciting, happy and colourful!😘

I started keto few years ago because I was 1 points away from being diabetic. I found Keto and in a few months of starting keto my diabetes score went to normal and I even came off my blood pressure tablets which I've been on for years. I was so pleased and my body inside felt so much better. I did struggle through the covid pandemic as I wasn't allowed to leave the house. Shopping became hard and I was not on as fully as I had been. Basically I did slip off the wagon and I can really see the difference. I've never felt so ill and back on medication. I am straight back on it and hoping to get back where I was before. I fully recommend keto or very low carbon. I do need to lose weight however I am doing this for health reasons firstly and hopefully the weight will come off with it. I do eat meat, I know I can eat it on keto but I do love your recipes and I do follow them. Thank you for sharing them with us. If I had one criticism of keto it would be it's very expensive when you are on a extremely tight budget. The cost of all the specialised ingredients you need becomes very hard at times to buy them things.

We started a keto diet after my husband was diagnosed with T2 diabetes. I did mountains of research and discovered that it was perfectly possible to put diabetes into remission with diet, which we did, within 3 months. We are still on keto and will never go back to our previous western diet. You say you rebooted your relationship with your body, whereas I rebooted my relationship with food. I stripped the kitchen of all carbs and sugars because for me, it was the only way to go. If it's not there i can't use it. I'm almost 70 and since childhood have been a natural baker - bread, cakes, biscuits etc etc. I now do little cooking as we don't eat that much. I just want to thank you for your wonderful channel and the knowledge that keto isn't some crazy fad diet, but is how we were meant to live. Our bodies have evolved very little from caveman days. I often wonder what they would have given for a freshly fried jam doughnut :)

It helped losing weight after the 5 day diet. Slowly without my knowledge I put all my weight back. Although My parents never gave us meat , fish except ghee and milk. So being a vegan or vegetarian is not a problem but the carb and the sweets are my problem. Right now I’m trying not to eat fried food, bread or any kind of grains and sweet stuff but I eat fruits. But I know if I follow your way it would be easy to control the blood sugar and my fat belly. Im not over weight but I could lose my 10 lbs of belly fat. Im 144lbs I want to be 135lbs. Anyway you are helping mea lot. Tnx a million. It’s difficult to normalize for me. But I’ll try. I follow your recipes. I made your flat bread , using almond flour and psyllium husk. It was good and tasty but the same time wanting to have healthy grain flatbread too. Right now no grains or sugar. 2 fruits maybe I’m taking simply low fat veggies but I do have some lentil stews. Tnx again for your help. I’m so sure so many people would follow your way. Marie from 🍁🇨🇦💕 Have a nice day. Your time is now 1.20 pm.🙏

There's no major planning you need to do. Simply start by modifying your food choices in a pace that works for you. Some people slowly ease in (like me) and some people go cold turkey. It's actually not dissimilar to going vegan, you just make different choices. It's important that you keep yourself informed on the science behind keto so you know why you're doing what you do. I recommend looking up Dr Jason Fung. And more importantly, enjoy the food! x

I think it is important to emphasize that vegan keto can differ for one person to another...we can get good ideas from you from others, but every single individual need to experiment what is best for their own body....which can be different what the person imagines to be good, for example I dont mind not eating wheat, gluten product but I could eat a lot more fruit, and i did in my fruitarian period and I had irritated mood, irritated skin with acne, now eating mostly low glycemic berries and occasionally sweeter fruits like apple or banana, my skin is great, my mood is great in general......focus on what we can have instead of focusing on what I cannot have is always a good attitude. The food I eat is beautiful, I am addicted to my peanut butter cacao fudge....there is always something to admire, nature is always there with positive energy :)

It's always interesting to hear other people's perspectives, and realised that I've been on this food journey now on the 4th year myself. Found out some health issues in 2018 completely by chance and had a need for a complete overhaul but what to eat???? No disrespect to doctors or medical professionals but all their advices were going the wrong direction (they advised me to what I was alreday eating...a complete puzzle). So I embarked on my own searches as many people would have done. Started to trial a bit by bit based on the information I considered to be "reliable" and I somehow wound up with keto (or near keto) style eating. I was not following plant based back then but I managed to reverse all the issues within 6 months and completely surprised my doctor (but didn't tell him exactly what I was eating...). Then I moved onto veg (now leaning towards vegan but not decided) at the end of 2020 for other reason. Suddenly it felt like I lost food options so I was eating the same few things I knew best for a year, then the past few months, I started to search for recipes that I could easily incorporate into my routine and came across your recipes, and I was very pleased. YT is a mindfield with so many recipes but many of yours are vegan plus gluten free (important bit), so I could easily adapt and once again, I get to enjoy my meal times without feeling restricted or deprived - newly found freedom within discipline! What you said is right - it's not sustainable if we feel deprived. Since I started to bake guilt-free treat and making all sorts of things including my new favourite, home made nutella, I feel I have so many choice of food I can eat and I haven't eaten shop bought food the past couple of months now. How satisfying in every which way this is. I don't label my eating in any particular way but I accept it's leaning towards keto (and gluten free). But I've learnt not to pigeonbox my food, then my mind would rebel against it whatever it is. Interesting thing is that I'm somehow moving away from dairy as well now. Was not a conscious decision and I still haven't completely stopped but it's significantly less than I used to consume. I never used to have a lot but initially I bumped up dairy to supplement my protein when I transitioned to veg. Now I consume so much soy beans (tofu & okara) every day, the body doesn't ask for it any more. Very interesting transition it's been, the body knows what's best and I'm almost going back to what I used to eat growing up (minus rice and any starchy food and fish...). 🙂🙏

@lotusmoon9049
@lotusmoon9049 2 жыл бұрын
@@forisma it's quite versatile, you can eat many ways. I like to eat it in a traditional way (cook with veg with light seasoning incl soy sauce - bit like adding it to stirfry) but when I have about a kilo of it (I make 2 batches of tofu using 200g of dry beans each time) every week, so I have to be more creative to consume as much as I can. I have used it for Fan's crusty bread, brownies, almond butter biscuits and okara mochi recipes - I switched a portion of almond flour to okara and it worked well. But fresh okara is very wet, so you'd need to be mindful and adjust liquid. I usually mix everything well before adding any liquid and so far I've not had any issues. Best was okara mochi and brownies because I can make a large batch then freeze the mochi dough ready to cook later and I'd freeze brownies after I bake them. This way, I'm not accumulating too large a stock of uncooked okara in my freezer. I actually had some plain okara with Thai green curry in stead of rice - I just heated okara with a bit of coconut oil in a frying pan beforehand and it was very good. 🙂

@@forisma thank you. It was more a desparate effort in getting through a lot of okara every week. I'd get bored of it if eating a kilo of it in the same way every day, so had to vary. Fortunately, many of Fan's recipes work very well with modification if I get the ratio right. But more importantly, my body's responding well.
