The liftgate strut I used ------ amzn.to/2SaS9mk
I would link the tools used but who doesn't have a screwdriver?
This repair is for any 2010-2017 GMC Terrain or Chevrolet Equinox with a power liftgate. We will diagnose and repair our sinking tailgate. This is a true do-it-yourself project. Save yourself a trip to the repair shop and have a working liftgate for under $25.

@@vehcor I admit I did a screw up like that dealer mechanic did, once. And I fell really bad about it to this day. Around '92, a truck came in with wiper motor not working. This was on a late 70s pickup. The motor would groan, but not move the wipers. I ordered and replaced the motor. It worked that day great. But it came back the next week with motor groaning again, only a little more enthusiastic groan than before. I checked it and found the ground wire mount was corroded below to the body. A few seconds with a wire wheel, put motor back in, worked very fast on high. I had not tried high speed before I let it leave the first time. The shop wouldn't tell the customer the fix, but that I had replaced it with a new motor. I left there within a few months.

Not all people are mechanically inclined. Just like not all people understand quantum mechanics. Just like not all people understand the income tax codes. Just like some people can't hit a 100 mph fastball....can you? Does that make you an idiot? Just because you don't have a skill set doesn't make you an idiot. BTW: I went to school with a guy. Had an IQ of 170. He could explain quantum theory in grade 9. Yet, tell him to run the 75 yard dash and it'd take him 10 minutes and it would look like a duck with 1 wing trying to fly south for the winter.

I've been dreading this fix for so long because I was led to believe I needed to tear apart the back of my car. I've put it off for so long I've developed the habit of slowly ducking when going into the back of any SUV. I always wondered if the problem may just be in the other side. Your diagnosis was spot on, the piston had oil residue everywhere, I bought the part from your link, replaced it in 2 minutes with a flat head. problem solved. The terrain still blows as a car but at least it's not hitting me in the head anymore. Thanks for the help. Huge weight off my shoulders.

Boy that it been a good one for the afternoon crew! Troubleshooting is always a good skill to have. And I know you're a skilled mechanic oh, I've been watching your show from the beginning and it always impresses me how easy you make it look. But have you noticed that people who should be skilled that are in your trade miss the obvious things all the time? I see it a lot of my trade, I'm an electrician, things they should have checked, things they didn't check, things an apprentice would have caught, I have journeyman level electricians missing.

I made this before the afternoon crew started with me or she could have fixed it with no trouble. Happy New Year Vehcor and crew! Here's my story (edited) Bought new 2016 Tahoe LT drove it 16K miles, power gate fails to operate. Warranty dealer replaces pump, cylinder, control limiter switch (opening height adjustment on overhead console) Works great for a month or so, then fails again #2. Return to the same dealer for warranty rework, all components replaced again.....Dealer stated "defective parts" were installed during 1st warranty repair. FAIL #3 at 21K miles, same prob. Dealer states "problem in data bus cable causing failures" Lemon law replacement of vehicle initiated, dealer bought Tahoe back. I purchased a new 2019 Traverse LT to replace the Tahoe in July 2019. At 1100 miles the auto stop circuit malfunctioned and destroyed starter and flywheel. Warranty work took 3 weeks to complete due to GM strike. Presently have 1800 miles on the vehicle and the POWER LIFTGATE is working intermittently! Good news is this is not a primary use vehicle but, I'm thinking it will spend a lot of time at the dealer for warranty work going forward. Auto-stop feature doesn't have a disable feature like the pickups and when I asked the dealer to disable it, they stated: "We can't do that as it's not endorsed by GM." End of story/rant. I'll keep ya posted on this adventure.... Love your videos, enjoy your weekend, work safe, stay warm! Doug@ the "ranch" (Massachusetts)

Did the afternoon crew teach this to you? JK! It was very nice of you to share your knowledge. Hopefully a google search for the problem will bring people to this video.
