There is a really quick cut to mom in this scene that shows an expression when Ty says that Ben is going to help them find out what happened to Abilene. That quick two second shot is so meaningful by the end of the movie. That is really strong storytelling. It is around the 2:40 mark.

Technically, the Texans really DID win. The battle at the Alamo was a delaying action meant to keep Santa Ana from moving further into Texas while Sam Houston gathered volunteers and built up an army to push them out. Those 186 men gave Houston almost two weeks he wouldn't have otherwise had.

The Texans wanted to keep their slaves and Mexico did not. That's why the Alamo and other battles happened.

This is a massive oversimplification. Mexico was a brutal dictatorship at the time that was jailing dissidents and shutting down opposition newspapers. Multiple other Mexican provinces rose in revolt around the same time, so the complaints weren't specific to Texas. The Texans weren't heroes, but Mexico wasn't fighting them because the Mexicans were super anti-slavery

Well the Texans did, but you're getting the wars mixed. The Alamo was a counter-offensive by the Mexican Army. It was during the American-Mexican war, when we invaded them and took half the modern-day midwest. The Losers-I mean Confederates were too preoccupied to invade Mexico, with wanting to keep their slaves, putting in their "constitutions", succession letters, and on their own f--king dollar.
