Same thing happened when Eddie and Cletus were talking to each other at the church after Venom ate Carnage. But then Venom goes, "Fuck this guy!" These are basically the examples of riding that tight line between serious scenes and comedic scenes.

@@ashgreninja-flurriko2173 I actually read somewhere that Cletus is so messed up in the head that he cannot remember his own past correctly. So it's hard to know if Cletus is telling the truth about his childhood or it's just something he fabricated to make himself look the victim.

Venom has always been a goofy character. In the David Michelline comics, Venom would sing diddys, save babies and was unapologetically fabulous. Plus they and Eddie were in a relationship as seen in comics like The Hunger, and Eddie even claimed Venom’s offspring as his own. It wasn’t until the 2000s where they made Venom a darker character, starting with the whole cancer subplot that was shoehorned in, though that did lead us to getting Anti-Venom and Agent Venom and Mania. More recent comics juggle between Venom being dark and Venom being goofy, so this portrayal is basically adapting much of the goofier aspects of Venom, while also adapting stuff from the Hunger.
