Both ladies look and move great...chana is sooo underrated...she move and hits the ball so exquisitely...she had alot of injuries during her career..should have won at least one grandslam..she was and is a class act..venus is always a class act..but she looks so thin here.i watch this whole tournament live back then and i was thinking that..

I think the 96 Aussie Open was her best chance and if she didn't have 3-4 surgeries between 96-2002 she would have been a real contender.

Great matchup!

I was hoping for a warmer hand shake at the end... from 2 black women who were powerful commodities at that time! Venus is always warm in her hand shakes but never hugs anyone except her little sister... very touching to see!

Lucian Sanchez because of the double in Athens I think. Venus was happy to win but really empathetic for Chanda. From Venus, a kiss at the net handshake is huge 🙂

because they both close i think. they played double together in Athens olympics

Chandra had a back injury early on in her career. She was slated to attend the olympics in 2016 but had to back out. I believed that hampered her. She could have won a slam or two.

She retired in 2006. I doubt she would have made a comeback for the Olympics in 2016.

It's hard to fathom but by 2004 we had already seen the best of Venus..🙁

Sad but true, she did have glimpses of her former self later on though, only at Wimbledon

I think 2009 &2010 was peak Venus!! She just didn’t win a major but play great those years

That disease changed the arc of her pro career. But she was still getting elite results after this match well into 2010 before she disclosed the illness. She also made two Grand Slam finals and a US Open semi in 2017. Her last season as a true contender

Venus huged her?! Wow I didn’t see that coming

There is/was nothing special about Chanda’s game. Sorry🤷🏾♂️. She never had the “it” factor. But she’s a sweet lady and good commentator

Who said there was? She had solid groundstrokes moved well and competed. She was a top 10 player at her best. Nothing wrong with that.

She moved excellently, had great ground strokes and volleyed well. If Rubin was as tall as Venus Williams, she would've won grand slams.

she was amazing her injuries held her back

Her forehand was one of the best in the 90's and early 2000's. Pam Shriver said it herself. She had the game but she wasn't mentally tough to compete for the big titles. When on, she could beat anyone. She should have made the Aussie Open finals in 96 and unfortunately wrist surgery cut her down while she was in her best shape.
