Suspect the dirty air ducts (also known as the queen Mary ducts) between hood and intake are getting blocked, likely that black nvh material you had noted in the first video during test drive. Love your videos, and great you now have a L405.

Guys I’m so glad ye bought this car, even though I’m not at L405 stage yet I’ve gone from my 06 disco 3 to a 12 L322 with the same engine so I’ll be watching all these videos with interest. Just found your channel. I love the content and especially, the sarcasm. As someone that would like to own an L405 in the future (maybe a sport instead, but the mechanicals should be the same), I'm very interested in the content. Seeing the driving videos makes me want to visit Germany again. I have been there for three BMW euro delivery trips plus a few work trips so I've spent a bit of time there.

I had an issue with restricted performance on a Freelander 2.2d and the fault codes pointed to turbo issues, but it was actually glow plugs that caused the problem, so it's not always easy to diagnose these type of faults.

I have Just discovered your channel and I am enjoying it greatly, it reminds me of when I was stationed in Germany many years ago in your wonderful country. I loved all the people the food and of course the beer, good luck with your new project.

Christian is the type of guy that will take apart a no start engine before checking if there’s fuel in the tank. I owned a L322 RR that had the same problem. Sold it before I got to the bottom of it. RR’s are incredibly more sensitive and complex-that’s why I went back to a Discovery 4 (LR4 here in the U.S.) Your videos are part of my Sunday morning routine. Ive had problems like that, on a couple of Harley Davidson's took me three weeks to work it out, a few years later i had another problem also took me three weeks, the thing was they were both the same problem and i forgot about the first time!!!!😮 (Its supposed to be red face! Lol) It kept me up at night trying to fugure out what it was? It ended up being a broken cotter pin on the cam shaft/ignition timing, simple when you find! Lol. So your not the only one to overlook a simple thing. We always think the worst, is the problem, especially with all those electronic disasters under the bonnet. Ive replaced coils condensers, points etc to finally find it was just a miss firing bloody plug! Thats whats called the non thinking thinking. (I was young dumb and didn't want to know any better!! 😊) Have a great new year both.

I have determined that Christian secretly works for Toyota. I base this on 1) for someone who knows nothing about Toyota, he knows a lot about Toyota; and 2) these videos, enjoyable as they are, sell a hell of a lot of Toyotas ! Vera: "Oh my God !"

Impressive methodology working through the fault cause(s) and it’s not time wasted on this complex beast, so much stuff under that bonnet! These moving valves underneath exposed to the road grit, heat and weather must be an annual job, love the lathe work, that wasn’t simple to set and then finding oil leaks…well, hours of footage there. How do you find time to go to the day job….

Excellent job drilling that broken bolt out, I like the idea of the adjacent bolt to act as a drilling guide. I know you’re probably way ahead of me now, and I’m not trying to be a desktop mechanic, but have you considered using left hand fluted drills (anti-clockwise rotation) for drilling out bolts. I have a selection of smaller sized left hand flute drills, and I’ve on a couple of occasions had the drill bite into a bolt and unscrew it as I drilled into it. I know it may not have worked on that steel bolt in alloy if it had partially corroded in. But with the left hand drills at least any rotational force is in the correct direction if it bites. They are available on Amazon and other places.

Happy new year guys love the way you do things I have retired now at 76 years old now

A little tip re the broken studs, Iv'e been doing this for over fifty years. Weld a heavy section washer (they are called form C) on to the stud first. This is easier as you dont have to reach in so far to weld. Then weld a nut to the washer, get a washer a little bigger in diameter than the nut then weld the outer edge of the nut to the washer. You can weld the inside of the nut as well to be belt and braces. Then let the nut cool until you can almost touch it before burning your fingers. At this temp give it plenty wd40 or similar. Let it cool right down dont rush it, have patience, Give it more juice then attempt to screw it out, if it starts to resist carefully screw back in again with more juice. If it only moves a bit dont be tempted to keep going screw it back in. Keep this up until it comes out. If it breaks off start again. Take your time dont rush it use plenty of patience. Happy new year, John.

Another cliff hangar situation to survive for a week. Just relaxed after the non starting Discovery rebuild. So the engine is already better than when it left the factory after Christian precision fettling. Very well! Happy New Year!
